These Leaked Photos Sure Look Like Verizon's 'DROID Maxx 2,' AKA The Only Moto X Play We're Getting In The US

Just last weekend we heard some rather convincing (but unconfirmed) rumors that the reason the Moto X Play was conspicuously absent from Motorola's US store was that Verizon's long-standing relationship with the manufacturer would result in an exclusive phone. Today we've been sent some photos that look like the real deal: a mid-range phone that mostly matches the Moto X Play, but with Verizon and DROID branding. Say hello to the Motorola XT1565, presumably coming to market as the DROID Maxx 2.

Report: Verizon Will Get A US Exclusive On The Moto X Play As The 'DROID Maxx 2,' DROID Turbo 2 Will Have An 'Unbreakable' Display

When the economical and long-lasting Moto X Play was announced specifically without US availability, it raised a few eyebrows here at Android Police. Some of us speculated that Motorola's tight relationship with Verizon, which goes all the way back to an exclusive on the original QWERTY-packing DROID, might have something to do with it. According to a report from Phandroid, that may indeed be the case. The site is reporting that the American carrier will sell a customized version of the Moto X Play as a sequel to its 2013 flagship, the DROID Maxx.

That makes sense: the Verizon-exclusive (at least in the US) Maxx line has always highlighted huge batteries and long usage times, and the Moto X Play uses a 3630mAh battery, larger than either the flagship Moto X Style or the enormous Motorola-made Nexus 6.

[Weekend Poll] Are You Interested In The New Moto 360, Flat Tire And All?

A new Moto 360 is coming soon - we all but know that at this point. We also think it will come in two sizes, and that it will still have a flat tire.

But Motorola isn't the only stylish watch game in town anymore. The Huawei Watch is anticipated to launch at some point this year, and Fossil teased a brand-new Intel-based smartwatch last week (... that also has a flat tire screen).

But the Moto 360 was easily the crowd favorite among the first generation of Wear devices, and it stands to reason that the second iteration will likely keep some of that hype moving forward, deflated circular display or otherwise.

Various 2nd Generation Moto 360 Photos Hit The Web From Multiple Sources

Is that the new Moto 360 on your wrist? Wait, sorry, no, I'm not going to say that out loud. I'm just going to sneak out my phone and... ah hah, got it! Time to upload these images and show the world that yes, this is precisely how the new Moto 360 will look.

Huh? Hello there. Sorry, I have imaginary conversations in my head sometimes. But yes, what you see above is an alleged picture of the Moto 360 version 2.0 on the arm of a woman talking on her smartphone somewhere in Chicago. That's a crown located at the 2PM position, and those are lugs at the top and bottom, matching what we've seen before.

Lenovo Begins Manufacturing Smartphones In India

Lenovo, one of the world's largest electronics manufacturers and the proud owner of the Motorola brand, is expanding once again. The company announced that it would begin manufacturing both Lenovo and Motorola phones in a new factory in Chennai, India, starting with the low-price Moto E and Lenovo K3 Note models. According to the press release, 1500 employees have been hired across manufacturing, quality assurance, testing, and other departments.

The change is notable because in the last decade or so most smartphones have been manufactured almost exclusively in China, with a few exceptions for nearby regional companies (like Samsung in South Korea and Asus in Taiwan...

Motorola '360S' And '360L' Items With Different Batteries Listed On Anatel In Brazil, Point Towards Multiple Sizes For Next-Gen Moto 360

We've seen a possible early look at the next version of Motorola's Moto 360 watch earlier today, and now it looks like there are new indications of multiple models for the Android Wear line. Anatel, Brazil's federal telecom regulator (the equivalent of the FCC in the US) has listed two new Motorola devices for certification: the 360S and 360L. The product names obviously point to new watch models, but it's the batteries that should really pique your interest. The listing was spotted by 9to5 Google.

In addition to standard radio documentation for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, Anatel lists the 360S with a 270mAh battery and the 360L with a 375mAh battery.
