Motorola's Spotlight Player, available only for the Moto X, serves you interactive films stuck somewhere between being as involving as a game and as passive as a movie. Motorola's first "Spotlight Story" came out late last year with the name Windy Day. The film, created by Ratatouille director Jan Pinkava, tasked players with moving their Moto Xs around to find items and trigger parts of the experience. Now another story is available by the name of Buggy Night (this time directed by animator Mark Oftedal), and it works much the same way.

Update: Motorola Senior Director of Software Management David Schuster has confirmed that wide rollout of the update will begin tomorrow morning.

Following a soak test back in late February, the official Android 4.4.2 update for the Sprint Moto X has begun rolling out to the general population. The relatively minor update adds new printing features, better battery life, and fixes Microsoft Exchange synchronization issues found in the previous software version.

As Android 4.4/KitKat updates begin rolling out to devices on all the major US carriers, one frequently asked question has to do with whether or not these devices will include Android's new "Tap and Pay" feature. This was one of the major additions in KitKat and allows almost any device with an NFC chip to be used for "tap and go" mobile payments, even if said chip doesn't have a built-in secure element.

It seems like just yesterday when we heard that Verizon was inviting users to the Moto X 4.4.2 soak test, and now here we are. Big Red just updated its Moto X support docs with the full 4.4.2 changelog, which should mean that the update is preparing to roll out to users soon – possibly within a few days.

Update 2/24: Motorola just pushed the release notes to its customer portal, so the update should be hitting devices any time now.

T-Mobile began its soak test of the Moto X running Android 4.4.2 earlier this month, a version of Kitkat that has already gone out to devices in Canada. It seems, though, that American carriers are largely taking their time with the release. Sprint placed its own soak test on hold just a half-hour after announcing it. Now, after roughly a week's wait, the process is back on. The issue has been addressed, and Android 4.4.2 is rolling out to those taking part in the testing process.

Fans of Motorola and ROM flashing will be excited to learn CyanogenMod is giving them what they want. NewCM11 nightly builds of the popular ROM now support a ton of Motorola devices with unified builds. You just have to figure out which phones are which – it's a little tricky.

There is a single ROM for the Falcon, which would be a cool name for a phone. It's actually the Moto G, and it looks like this ROM should work for all variants.

Motorola's Valentine's Day deal on the Moto X was supposed to be up today, but the company is now extending the offer through February 22nd. You can still save $70 on the off-contract pricing on all Moto X models – that includes the standard Moto Maker devices, and the Developer Edition phones.

If your phone was already one of the very first devices to get the latest version of Android, do you really need a custom ROM like CyanogenMod? If you're shouting "YES" at the screen right now, you'll want to know about the first nightly builds available for the Moto X. The CM team has published CM11 nightlies for the Moto X on T-Mobile (XT1053, which is also the standard unlocked GSM edition) and for Verizon (XT1060), though the later needs to be a Developer Edition.

Android 4.4.2 is reaching the Moto X on T-Mobile today, which passed the recent soak test with flying colors. The update notification will be presenting itself soon, but you can also just head into the settings and check for updates manually. Yes, this is one of those rare times the update button will actually do something.
