A few days ago, Motorola pushed out a special soak test of the ICS update to a number of Wi-Fi XOOM owners in the U.S. Apparently, no serious issues were found by the company's engineers, as the very same Android 4.0.3 update (IML77) is now rolling out to everyone. Well, everyone in the U.S. with a Wi-Fi XOOM that is. This makes the XOOM the 2nd mainstream tablet device to officially receive ICS, losing out only to the Transformer Prime that beat it to the punch by only a couple of days.

Head over to Settings > About > System Updates to see if the 81.9MB update is available on your XOOM, let it do its thing, and enjoy the greatest version of Android Google has ever created.

Well, it's official - the "project" Xoom owners have been waiting for is an update to Ice Cream Sandwich, meant as a soak test, expected to last through the weekend. Moto has begun pushing the new software as of 9pm PST. An anonymous tipster has provided us with shots of a private section of Motorola's official XOOM support forum, which confirm that the update is going live to those lucky enough to join the test group.

As you can see, Moto has indicated that they do in fact plan on releasing this software very soon, unless "there is some extremely serious issue."

While Xoom Wi-Fi owners lucky enough to participate in Motorola's project test out Ice Cream Sandwich for the tablet that launched Honeycomb, other users can look forward to an update to Android's latest and greatest iteration any time now.

Owner's of Verizon's LTE-enabled Motorola Xoom should be expecting an update soon, bringing system software to version HLK75F. The update is a tiny 7.8MB, and brings with it compatibility for Pay As You Go LTE service.

Verizon's informational document about the update is tacit on the subject, listing the following benefits:

  • Now offers month to month, pay as you go 4G LTE Mobile Broadband service.
  • Updated Google Setup Wizard to improve reliability of Pay As You Go detection on first device power up.

For those interested, Verizon also has a document outlining how to obtain the software update. There's no word on exactly when this update will begin rolling out, but Verizon has attached a reassuring "COMING SOON!" tags to the links leading to the update's documentation on the Xoom's system update page.

Motorola is resurrecting the world's first Honeycomb tablet one last time before the next generation of XOOM becomes available, but this time it has a family-friendly twist. It's called the XOOM Family Edition, and it's basically the same Wi-Fi XOOM that has been out for months now, but it's packing around $40 of additional games and other software specifically targeted at kids. Among the bundled software is Zoodles, an app that locks the home button and only grants access to user-defined apps, so you can keep those kiddos away from apps that you deem unfit.

Also included in the bundle is a couple of popular games, like Asphalt 6 and Sim City Deluxe.

An update started rolling out to the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi earlier today, bumping the build number up to HTK75D. While we're not entirely sure of everything that this update brings, there is one obvious difference: the Market.

Yep, a long-awaited update to the tablet Market is definitely in full effect, and it looks nearly identical to the phone Market. This is no coincidence, either-- remember the minor update that El Goog pushed to phones last week? It turns out that is the same exact version that's being pushed to the XOOM. Yeah, that means you can simply download the 3.1.5 apk and install it on your tablet to get the new Market.

Update: So, today's the day. Who plans on living the tablet-less life for the next week?

Verizon Wireless has just announced in a press release that the Motorola Xoom's 4G LTE upgrade process can finally begin Thursday the 29th (tomorrow).

To get the upgrade, customers need only go to Verizon's Xoom upgrade page. Oh, and send off their Xoom for approximately 6 business days.

Verizon also announced that Xoom tablets with 4G LTE built in will be available starting October 13th for $499.99 on a new two year contract. Broadband data plans will begin at $30/month for 2GB of data.

If you head over to woot.com this morning, you'll find refurbished Motorola XOOM 32GB Wi-Fi tablets are being tossed off for a mere $355 shipped - that's $50 less than the best deal we've seen previously for a non-refurb, but honestly, you probably won't even notice they aren't new.

That's quite a bit of tablet storage for a pretty reasonable price, so we're inclined to say this deal is indeed a good one. Head on over to woot! to pick one (or 4) up.

Skype for Android, an app that gets almost as much love as it does hate, was updated to version 2.5 a few minutes ago. Because the last update unofficially opened up Skype to all 2.2+ devices, this time around Skype simply listed 13 more devices as whitelisted and approved for video chat capabilities:

  1. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (T-Mobile)
  2. HTC SHOOTER (KDDI)
  3. Sony Ericsson Xperia Live with Walkman
  4. Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V
  5. Acer Iconia Tablet (A500)
  6. LG Optimus Black LANDSCAPE ONLY
  7. LG Optimus 3D LANDSCAPE ONLY
  8. LG Optimus 2x LANDSCAPE ONLY
  9. Motorola Photon
  10. Motorola Droid3 LANDSCAPE ONLY
  11. Motorola Bionic LANDSCAPE ONLY
  12. Motorola Xoom
  13. Motorola Atrix

Notice how the list contains 13 devices, even though the changelog says 14.
