Yep, you read that right - we're giving away a DROID BIONIC, and it's not even out yet (well, it will be in less than 24 hours), courtesy of the awesome folks over at Stack Exchange. Why? Because we want to help supercharge Stack's amazing Android Q&A site, Android Stack Exchange.

Android Stack Exchange, a child of the StackOverflow family of sites, is sort of like a dedicated Android Q&A Reddit + Wiki + FAQ for answering all your questions about everything Android.

The @DroidLanding Twitter account has awoken once more, this time with news of an ongoing DROID Bionic scavenger hunt:

@DroidLanding

In previous VZW Twitter contests, the @DroidLanding account would tweet out the coordinates of a hidden smartphone and participants would hurriedly scramble to the location lest someone claim the prize before them. With this latest scavenger hunt, however, VZW has upped the nerd factor and brought an augmented reality-based Android game into the mix:

The app lets users 'build' four virtual Bionics before sending them off to a nearby location.

Last week, a new vulnerability was discovered in the Droid 3 that finally allowed developers to achieve root access. Upon further investigation, it was concluded that this specific problem wasn't exclusive to the D3, but could most likely be exploited on all Moto phones running Gingerbread. Once this was verified, the next progression in thought that came to mind was 'what about the Droid Bionic?' As found out by MyDroidWorld, the Bionic is indeed susceptible to this particular exploit, so early adopters concerned with gaining root can stand in line on September 8th with confidence.

The Droid Bionic is coming out a week from now, but its guts have already been leaked online and examined by some curious Android minds (remember the boot animation?).

One of them, P3Droid, ripped out the wallpapers unique to the device, packaged them up into an app, and posted it online. Since I like to see things in front of me, feel and touch them, I then ripped the wallpapers out of his app and am now posting them for individual viewing and downloading (the app is free, so put down your pitch forks).

Our daily trawl through the interwebs has revealed an intriguing landing page at Verizon's DroidDoes website for the hotly anticipated Motorola Droid Bionic.

The page at www.droiddoes.com/#/bionic, appearing just a few hours ago, features an old-timey image of a television test pattern with the text "Awaiting Blogger Data Entry...". The image is surrounded by four boxes requiring "input codes" from the blogs Boing Boing, Boy Genius Report, Joystiq, and Android Central.

Since Verizon still wouldn't officially give up the upcoming Droid Bionic's release date, all we've had to chew on so far were rumors of the September 8th release date here and there (the latter was then discredited as an unofficial account by VZW, so it really has no credibility anymore).

To throw another rumor into the fire, one that seems to corroborate all the previous rumors, today the folks at Droid Attic dug up what seems to be an image of Best Buy's internal system showing the Bionic in stock on September 7th.

Wow, this just might be the best deal we've posted in a while. Unfortunately, we're not 100% certain on the price, because the images we were tipped to don't exactly specify one. Still, based on the $300 mark we've been hearing, and Droid-forums' claim that their source says that's the number, we're starting to feel pretty confident in that figure.

If you look on the left hand side of that image, in the red area, you can see the text "Accessories Bonus Pack / $159.97 Retail Value / Includes Standard Dock / Vehicle Navigator Dock / Battery Dock and / Extra Battery." That's a lot of kit to bundle with a phone for just $300 on a new 2-year agreement!

Not really. Actually, the BIONIC looks pretty svelte in these images leaked by the good folks over at Pop Herald. Here's the BIONIC stand-alone, and side by side with the DROID X2:

While the BIONIC clearly is thicker than the DX2, it's not by that much. Of course, press shots (which these likely are) have a tendency to play with lighting and perspective in order to make a phone seem thinner than it might actually be, so until you hold it in your hand, it's all kind of relative.

The elusive Droid Bionic is finally within weeks of release (it should drop September 8th for $299.99), but if you want to pretend you already have one for a moment or if your current boot animation is not a gorgeous fiery bionic eye (is such a thing even possible?), then download this official Droid Bionic boot animation and sound. It won't grow you an extra arm, but it will make you the coolest chap in town (not really).
