At this point, Verizon probably shouldn't even bother announcing the Droid 2 Global - it's already starred in a commercial, been featured on droiddoes.com, and even been shipped to customers' doors.

Verizon's upcoming Droid 2 Global, which replaces the still relatively young Moto Droid 2, has exposed some skin today on Verizon's how-to video page. Here, the CDMA/GSM packing world phone is shown off in an official introduction, along with a handful of how-to videos demoing specific phone functions. The $200 QWERTY speed demon (it's clocked at 1.2GHz) is scheduled to be released later this month.

And now, onto the goodies:

Verizon's really steamrolling along with the Android train, aren't they? In addition to last night's official announcement of the Samsung Continuum, the Motorola Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global are now both up for pre-order. Just as we'd heard, the D2G looks to be $200 after rebates, while the DP, as announced yesterday, will clock in at $180 (both with a new contract).

Both devices are "world phones," meaning they pack both GSM and CDMA. The Droid Pro is a candybar form factor with a full QWERTY keyboard at the bottom - clearly aimed at the BlackBerry crowd. The Droid 2 Global, on the other hand, features a choice of two colors and a higher clocked processor than the regular ole' D2.

Engadget's landed a classic Blurrycam shot of Verizon's internal system showing the prices for a handful of current and upcoming devices. Namely, the Motorola Droid Pro, and the still-unofficial Droid 2 Global and Samsung Continuum.

In simpler, blur-free text, that's:

  • Motorola Droid Pro - $179
  • Samsung Continuum - $199
  • Motorola Droid 2 Global - $199

Not unreasonable at all, given that they're all high-end devices. I suppose this should also erase any lingering doubt anyone may have had about the two color choices for the D2 Global - we'll definitely be presented with the standard dark blue, as well as a white model.

The Motorola Droid 2 Global is really turning out to be the worst-kept secret since the Bay of Pigs invasion, isn't it? We've been hearing inklings of it since mid-September, including rumors that the CPU would be clocked at 1.2 GHz.

Now, Droid-Life's legion of tipsters have spotted two more official Verizon documents featuring the Droid 2 Global: a holiday ad featuring the D2G (above), and nothing other than a sheet listing the tech specs.

And quite a nicely-equipped phone it is. Think of it as a beefed up Droid 2, with an alternative color option:

  • 1.2 GHz CPU
  • 3.7" 854x480 screen
  • 5 MP camera with 2 LED flash
  • 8 GB ROM, 8 GB microSD included (16 GB total)
  • Dark Sapphire or Winter White

Seems a little weird to launch an upgraded product so soon after launching the original, but hey - I suppose they're trying to get a leg up on their competition.

Ever since the Motorola Droid Pro was made official, the rumor mill has been buzzing about a global version of the Droid 2, which was exactly what the Pro was originally rumored to be.

Let's start with a rather suggestive screenshot from Droid Life yesterday:

That's right - Best Buy's reportedly discontinuing the Droid 2 at the time of writing, and now it may be just a matter of time before other retail outlets follow suit.

But fear not - BGR was just told by an "anonymous source" that the Droid 2 won't be entirely dead, for the Droid 2 Global is, apparently, just around the corner.

Verizon has just announced the Droid Pro (that's right, the same device that was previously rumored to have a dual GSM /CDMA radio for global roaming, a 1.3 GHz processor, and a 4" display), and let me tell you, the thing's got a few surprises hidden up its sleeve.

For starters, it's not a landscape slider, unlike the Droid 2. Instead, Motorola's decided to go with a candybar form factor for this one, much like the form factor used by RIM for numerous BlackBerries and also by Palm for the Pixi. That in itself should set it apart from the rumors we'd heard earlier, which claimed that the Pro would essentially be a world edition of the successor to the most popular Android phone ever to grace what us humans know as the Earth.

Just over a month ago (before it launched), the Quadrant scores of the Motorola Droid 2 leaked. We called it a monster when it hit 1,458. Today, Droid-Life has scored a few more leaked benchmarks, this time of the Droid 2 World Edition (which is rumored to be replacing the D2). The results: a Quadrant score of 1709 thanks to a CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz. For perspective, keep in mind that a stock EVO manages around 1100.

Just a note: the first Quadrant run yielded a score of 1566, while the second hit 1709. I'd guess the score on the screenshot above was a new set of runs, as it seems like an uncached score.
