Motorola Finalizes $100 Trade-Up Program For Old Devices – Basically A Rebate Deal

When Motorola announced a few months back that it was not going to update most of its 2011 Android devices to Jelly Bean, owners were understandably upset. Moto attempted to calm the masses by offering a $100 trade-in credit. Now the details have been finalized and the program is looking much less appealing than everyone had hoped.

Eligible devices are the Droid 3, Droid X2, Admiral, Atrix 2, Atrix 4G, Cliq2, Electrify, Photon 4G, XPRT, Titanium, and Triumph. If you have one of these, you're in the program. Rather than offering you a discount on the purchase of your new phone, this is basically a glorified rebate.

Ice Cream Sandwich Now Rolling Out To The Atrix 2 On AT&T

Back in late September, Motorola updated its ICS rollout timeline, highlighting that several updates had been delayed, one of which was the Atrix 2. Then, much to the surprise of basically everyone, Moto released details and a soak test of the Atrix 2's Android 4.0 update just three days later. Silly Moto.

According to the official AT&T blog, the update is ready for that masses and should be rolling out to users now. Aside from all the changes that come with ICS, there are a few noteworthy Moto-specific changes, as well:

Due to Adobe's discontinuation of Flash development, Flash Player is no longer pre-loaded to this device.

Motorola Site Details Atrix 2 ICS Update (Version 67.21.125), Soak Test Already Rolling Out

Less than a week ago, Motorola updated its ICS upgrade timeline, moving back the tentative release timeframes for many devices. Among those was the Atrix 2, which got its status pushed from "Q3 of 2012" to "further plans coming soon." Initially, that didn't leave us with any sort of good thought, but it looks like we were wrong.

Motorola just released the changelog and other installation information to its My Moto Care site, indicating that the update is indeed coming much sooner than we anticipated. So soon, in fact, that the initial soak test has already begun rolling out.

As shown in both the changelog and the above screenshot, this will bump the Atrix 2 up to Android 4.0.4, with a build number of 67.21.125.

Motorola Software Upgrade Timeline Updated - Many ICS OTAs Delayed

Motorola made some changes to its firmware update timeline this morning. It looks some ICS updates have been delayed, while others that were once promised are now undergoing evaluation. Here's a look at what changed.

The Atrix 4G and Atrix 2 were originally slated to get ICS in Q3 of 2012, but have been updated to "further plans coming soon." We're not exactly sure what that means, but it doesn't sound very promising.
The Droid XYBOARD 8.2's ICS update was pushed back from Q3 to Q4, despite the fact that its 10.1" brother has been on Android 4.0 since August.
The XOOM Family Edition will also have to wait until Q4 to see ICS.

Official Ice Cream Sandwich Update Leaks For Motorola's Atrix 2

Users of Motorola's Atrix 2 who have been yearning for a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich on their devices have something to be excited about today – earlier this morning, an official ICS OTA update was leaked, or rather discovered using CheeseCake, a tool that essentially allows individuals to check specialized Moto servers for updates, meaning no company personnel need be involved in the leak. Here's a quick explanation from our contact Manoj:

AT&T Releases List Of Devices To Receive Ice Cream Sandwich Update

AT&T Motorola Atrix 2 Gets An Update To v55.13.25 - No, It's Not Ice Cream Sandwich

Motorola Atrix 2 owners on AT&T are receiving an OTA update to v55.13.25, by AT&T reckoning. In Android versions, that would be 2.3.6, so sorry - no Ice Cream Sandwich for you, yet. Before your hopes are completely dashed, though, here are the full release notes:

Motorola Droid Bionic And Atrix 2 Fastboot Files Leak – Come Back From Soft Brick In A Snap

Hot on the heels of the Droid Razr's leaked fastboot files, two more Motorola devices can now be restored to stock configuration in case of emergency.

Motorola's Atrix 2 and Droid Bionic have both had their fastboot files leaked in recent days, providing a bit of insurance for daring users and developers alike. The Atrix 2's files are available here, while the Droid Bionic's fastboot set can be found here.

For those not in the loop, fastboot allows users to flash unsigned partition images via USB (including recovery images), meaning it is possible to bring a device back from a soft brick.
