In the world of Android, devices have to go through a certain right-of-passage in order to really be embraced by the community. Part of the journey is becoming rooted, and thanks to XDA Forum member Chandon, the LG G-Slate has officially passed this portion of the test.

This article deals with a couple of advanced topics. If you’re unfamiliar with some of the terms, hit up our primers here:

The process is nowhere near as easy as it is for, say, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, so don't expect a simply copy/paste or even a one-click root.

This is huge. Like, massively huge. Probably the best thing to come out of Google I/O so far this morning huge. I'm talking about the Android Alliance and the solution to a problem that has plagued Android users since the beginning of time (okay, maybe not that long).

The Android Alliance is a special task force dedicated to delivering Android updates quickly and efficiently to all devices for 18 months after they're released.

On Monday, we teased you guys with an early look at Gingerbread running on the G2x from This Is My Next. There was some definitely some disappointment in the air when you realized that a download wasn't available at that time, but that all changes now.

This is for rooted devices only.

The leaked version, which also appears to be the final version, of Gingerbread for the G2x is now available for those running rooted devices.

CyanogenMod-7

The LG G2x is showing up all over the place today, isn't it? This time it's joined by its cousin, the Optimus 2X, as they are both graced with the custom ROM goodness of CyanogenMod. Be warned, though - these are only nightly builds so they are not yet polished, final versions of CM7. They are however, official CyanogenMod builds from TeamDouche, not ported versions from other developers.

Now that you know what's up, you can grab the downloads from their respective threads over at XDA.

A couple of weeks ago we told you how to get the G2x for $50 from CellHub (it jumped up to $100 shortly after we posted the article). If you still want to score a G2x for less than $100, but don't want to order from a vendor that you've never heard of, then you're in luck. Today only, RadioShack.com is offering the G2x for $99 with any qualifying contract.

What's this that I have stumbled across this morning? It's none other than some pictures and video footage from This Is My Next of the T-Mobile LG G2x running Gingerbread! No, not a rooted, AOSP version of Gingerbread - it looks to be an official build.

Shortly after the launch of the G2x, T-Mobile said that it would be getting Gingerbread "soon". Of course, we all took that with a grain of salt because, let's be honest here, carriers aren't really the most reliable when it comes to updating their phones.

The latest update to Flash 10.2 for Android (version number 10.2.157.51) hit the Market earlier today and introduced several enhancements, most notably hardware acceleration for 720p videos (mentioned here earlier), albeit only on Honeycomb tablets.

Browser integration in Honeycomb has also been improved, and "important bug fixes and security enhancements," including a fix to the "critical" vulnerability discovered a few weeks ago, have been made across the board - not just in Honeycomb.

We told you about Samsung dropping the source for the Sidekick 4G this morning, and now it's LG's turn to release some code. The lucky winner is... the G2x. That's right, this awesome new beast-of-a-phone has already received ClockwordMod Recovery and now it's about to get even better - as soon as devs get ahold of the source and start cooking up some homebrew Android goodness (CyanogenMod, anyone?).

It's hard to believe they've done in a week what HTC thinks could take 90-120 days of hard work and intensive decision-making!

Remember the T-Mobile G2x that came out just two days ago? Well, it looks like the folks over at CellHub are offering an unbelievable deal on this brand new Tegra2 powered device: with a new two-year agreement, you can score this beauty for just $50.

If you have never heard of CellHub, don't stress, because we hadn't either. We decided to do some digging and, come to find out, these guys are most definitely legit, rocking an almost 5-star score on ResellerRatings.

Continuing with the trend of high-end Android devices getting speculative release dates, LG's 3D smartphone, the Optimus 3D, has been given a release date of June 6 by online UK retailer Clove. They say that the device should be on their shelves by that date, but gives the caveat that this information is "subject to change - but accurate at this time."

With a 1GHz dual core processor, 4.3-inch WVGA display and a 5MP dual-lens camera to capture glasses-free 3D content, this is going to be a worthy opponent to the HTC Sensation, which has been rumored to have a June 8th release date.
