Update 11/1/12: The Mach will come out on November 11th for $99.99:
Sprint's on a roll here lately with the 4G LTE device announcements. We already know the company is getting the powerhouse Note II, as well as its first LTE tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and LG's newest flagship, the Optimus G.
Of course, they want to cater to the needs of all customers. Read More
Finally. Since Hurricane Sandy flooded out New York and canceled Google's press event, we've been trying everything we can think of to get a review unit. Late yesterday we got an email back from an awesome Googler (thanks!), and I immediately flew out the door to go rescue a Nexus 4 from New York. We got one! Mission accomplished!
I have a million things to work on now: a full review, a bunch of GTKAs, and teardowns of everything. Read More
It's hard to believe that any high(er) end phone released within the last six months shipped with Gingerbread, but sadly, that's the case. Sprint's first LTE smartphone, the LG Viper, was one such device. Thankfully, the company is now pushing out an OTA update that will bump the Android version up to 4.0. It may not be the latest and greatest that Google has to offer, but it's still a huge improvement over Gingerbread. Read More
: A "nightly" is a bleeding edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.
It could oftentimes be unstable and not properly tested, lacking any changelogs, but eventually evolving into alphas, betas, release candidates, and finally stable releases.
If you're looking for a way to freshen up your Optimus 2X (read: make it not suck), the team over at CyanogenMod may have something of interest for you. Read More
About a week ago, we got a look at the LG Spectrum 2 and all of its innards thanks to Best Buy. Now, Verizon has made it official. It's not going to rock any socks off, but for $99 after mail-in-rebate and a new two-year contract, it's really not a bad piece of kit:
- 4.7" True HD 1280x720 IPS display
- 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB storage, microSD card slot
- Global Ready
- 8MP rear shooter, 1.3MP front camera
- Android 4.0
It's not winning any awards for most stylish, best all around, or... Read More
At this point, the LG Nexus 4 is the most-leaked phone since, well, that other phone. Today a video from the carrier 3 in Sweden has popped up on YouTube with a near two minute look at the device, showing us around Android 4.2 a bit. The phone itself looks just like all the pictures we've seen. The video also confirms the Quick Settings menu Ron found. Conveniently, users will access it via a button, not a second pull-down shade. Google is set to officially announce the LG-built Nexus 4 on Monday, but it looks like LG's UK division got a little ahead of itself and has posted an official LGE960 quick start guide online for all to see. This device has been thoroughly leaked by this point, but there are a few interesting tidbits to be gleaned from this PDF.
First, the file name identifies this as a US device with 16GB of storage. Read More
If you have an Optimus Elite, it's time to hit that "check update" button - a brand-new software version (LS696ZVF) is headed out to devices this morning. It's definitely on the minor side, and no, it's not Ice Cream Sandwich. Honestly, if you have an Elite, you're probably going to be stuck in Gingerbread hell forever unless you're on a custom ROM. Anyway, here's the changelog:
- NFC driver permissions update
- Support for downloadable Sprint Direct Connect Now client from the Google Play Store
- “QuickMemo” LG application
- Sprint Connections Optimizer
