Froyo Update Now Rolling Out To The LG Ally

A few days ago it was revealed that Verizon would be finally updating the LG Ally to Android 2.2 Froyo. Now, less than a week later, users are reporting that the OTA update for Froyo has been pushed by Verizon.

Lg-ally2

While it is laudable that Verizon is updating the mid-range LG Ally (unlike certain other manufacturers), Froyo is already an out-dated version of Android thanks to Gingerbread.  Nevertheless, this latest update ought to bring some nice improvements to the device, while increasing the number of users running Froyo by just a little bit.

Froyo Coming Soon To The LG Ally

Remember LG and Verizon's keyboard-wielding, mid-range Android phone, the Ally? Well, it's about to join the ranks of the over 50% of Android devices that are running Froyo, as Verizon is planning to push out the long-awaited Android 2.2 update soon. A date hasn't been set yet, but it's always good to know that your phone is still being supported, even if it isn't the hottest handset on the market.

LG Axis Now Available On Alltel - 7 Months Too Late, $90 Too Much (We're Making Progress!)

Man, Alltel really seems to have a knack for releasing devices much later than competing carriers, doesn't it? First it was the HTC Hero, then it was the Motorola Milestone, and now it's the LG Axis - essentially the same phone as the LG Ally, which Verizon launched in May of 2010.

Just like the aforementioned Ally, the Axis features a 3.2-inch WVGA (800x480) display as well as a 3.2 megapixel camera and...

Stock LG Optimus 2X Benchmarked On Video, Hits Nearly 2,400 In Quadrant

Greek site Techblog managed to land an Optimus 2X, and took the chance to run Quadrant on the device - and damn, does the "binuclear [thanks, Google translate] NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor clocked at 1 GHz" ever manage to impress. It looks like the 2X is every bit the little monster we expect it to be: not only does it have a super-speedy browser, but it managed a 2,391 in Quadrant.

CES 2011: Quick Hands-On With Verizon's LG Revolution: 4G LTE In A Semi-Stock 4.3" Package

At Verizon's 4G event today, we got some quick demo time with LG's initial LTE offering, the Revolution. Sporting a trendy 4.3" display, the device is obviously geared towards content creation and consumption. Not only does it include a 720P-capable 5 MP camera on the back, it also makes a mark with it a 1.3 MP front facing camera for video calls.

Unfortunately, it only has a single-core processor, clocking in at 1 GHz with 512 MB RAM alongside, but that shouldn't stop it from being a fairly decent performer all around.

CES 2011: LG Officially Unveils Optimus Black - The World's Thinnest Android Smartphone With NOVA Display

During the LG press conference (see our live coverage), LG officially revealed to the world the Optimus Black Android smartphone, previously known as Optimus "B."

This upcoming looker features a brand new NOVA display technology, which LG touts as "breakthrough, brightest, clearest, and most readable among mobile screens, with 700 nits of brightness (Nit: a unit of luminance equal to 1 candela per square meter)." The NOVA display supposedly performs very well under strong sunlight and uses up to 50% less power compared to LCD screens and AMOLED screens that are displaying a totally white image (AMOLED doesn't use energy to display blacks).
