LG Announces L Series II, Mid-Range To Low-End Phones For All

While the Nexus 4 may be the LG handset getting everyone's attention, the company does have other market segments to think about. The L SeriesII (so that's what happened to the other letter from the Optimus G) fills that need with a trio of handsets that will debut with the Optimus L7II in Russia next week. The phone comes with a 4.3" 800x480 IPS display, dual-core Qualcomm processor and Jelly Bean 4.1.

T-Mobile Rolling Out Minor Security Updates To The LG MyTouch And MyTouch Q

If you're the owner of an LG myTouch or myTouch Q, you'll be receiving a small OTA update in the neat future that adds some "security enhancements" to your device. And that means you'll probably lose root. The update version for the myTouch is V10u-FEB-11-2013, and the myTouch Q is LGC800-V10x-FEB-11-2013. Both updates around 2MB in size, so you can rest assured that the changes are indeed quite minor.

Google Shows Off The Cooler Parts Of Now And The Nexus 4 You Don't Have In The Latest TV Spot

Yes, we know - the Nexus 4 is still thin on the ground basically everywhere. (Americans, both the 8GB and 16GB versions are currently shown as "ships in 2-3 weeks" on the Play Store.) Even so, the LG flagship is the logical showpiece for Google Now, and it's doing some fine service in Google's latest mobile search ad. This one shows off Now's ability to automatically bring up contextual information for your time or location.

Sprint Updates The LG Viper 4G To Version LS840ZVK For Better LTE Reception

Quick note, LG Viper owners: If you're getting an update request this afternoon, don't get too excited. The newest software addition isn't any flavor of Jelly Bean. It's just a small update that addresses "LTE network acquisition improvements", which probably means it'll help you when transitioning from Sprint's old and busted 3G network to the new LTE hotness.

Leaked Images Show Off The LG Note II, Er, I Mean, A 5.5" Version Of The Optimus G Pro

Oh boy, LG. I don't know if you're going to be able to live this one down: PhoneArena just leaked a couple photos of the allegedly-upcoming Optimus G Pro, but it's not the one you've already seen before (headed for NTT DoCoMo in Japan). Nope, this is a super-sized 5.5" version, and the leaked shot of it out in the wild is going to draw a lot of attention, if only for visual comparisons.

LG Optimus LTE, Nitro HD Join The CyanogenMod 10.1 Club With First Official Nightlies

Claiming the title of the first MSM8660-packing devices to get CyanogenMod 10.1 nightlies, LG's Optimus LTE and Nitro HD (su640 and p930) joined the lineup today.

In a post to Google+, CyanogenMod is sure to note that the introduction of the Nitro HD and Optimus LTE does not necessarily indicate the imminent support of other devices that use Qualcomm's MSM8660 chip. "What it does mean," the post goes on, "is that the first hurdle towards more devices has been achieved."

That said, the nightlies are still great news for Nitro HD/Optimus LTE owners who have been hankering for an AOSP-inspired Android 4.2 experience with the full CyanogenMod treatment.

Start Your Browsers: The Nexus 4 Is Back In Stock In Australia And Spain

Months after the worldwide release, the Nexus 4 is still in short supply in nearly every market around the globe. If you're in Australia or Spain (and reading this on Tuesday) you might have a shot at grabbing the world's most elusive Android phone. The local editions of the Play Store are currently showing the Nexus 4 in stock in both 8GB and 16GB flavors.

Google Pushes New Android 4.2.1 Code To AOSP (JOP40G, 4.2.1_r1.2) - Here Is The Developer Changelog

Earlier this week, we got wind of a new OTA build JOP40G possibly hitting the Nexus 4 soon. I thought this update would finally be the elusive Android 4.2.2 that we've been hearing about, but it looks like that's not the case.

Yesterday, Google pushed some new open source code to AOSP (Android Open Source Project) marked with 2 new tags: android-4.2.1_r1.1 and android-4.2.1_r1.2. The build number corresponding to the 4.2.1_r1.2 release is - you guessed it - JOP40G (with mentions of JOP40F and JOP40E along the way too) - the same one we thought would be 4.2.2.

If you're looking for a 4G LTE handset on MetroPCS that packs a pretty decent punch, the just-announced LG Spirit may have your number. At $200 and no annual contract, don't expect the Spirit to be a game-changer, but at first blush it does look like a bang-for-your-buck investment:
