[Update: Fixed] Some Sprint Customers Are Having Trouble Activating The 32GB Nexus 5

The first batch of Nexus 5 phones reached many early customers yesterday, but many of those taking advantage of the phone's compatibility with the Sprint network are having serious issues getting the device connected. According to several tips, this XDA thread, and this Google Groups thread, incompatible IMEI/MEID numbers on the phones are causing the activation process to fail, and giving major headaches all around.

Update: Sprint reached out to us with word that this is no longer an issue.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. Reuters reports that the Rockstar consortium, a joint effort between Apple, Microsoft, Sony, and Blackberry, has sued Google and Android manufacturers Samsung, HTC, LG, ASUStek, Huawei, ZTE, and Pantech over patents formerly held by the now-defunct Nortel Networks. Rockstar won the patents in an auction in 2011 that topped out at $4.5 billion - Google lost the same auction with a $4.4 billion bid.

16GB Black Nexus 5 Sells Out In The US Play Store After Just 33 Minutes [Update: All Versions Now Showing Multiple Week Waits]

Update: After some flip-flopping, it seems that all configurations of the Nexus 5 are no longer showing out of stock. The bad news – Google is really just indicating multiple week wait times for each version rather than saying it's out of stock. It's 3-4 weeks for the 16GB variants and the white 32GB. The black 32GB is backordered 2-3 weeks right now. Hopefully you got your order in!

If you were hoping the Nexus 5 would not suffer any of the stock shortages that plagued the Nexus 4 launch, I'm sorry to be the one to shatter your carefully constructed fantasy world.

KitKat Feature Spotlight: 4.4 Includes Moto X-style "OK Google" Voice Commands, But Only On The Nexus 5 For Now

Easily one of the coolest features of the Moto X (and its sister DROID devices on Verizon) is the Touchless Control function, which allows users to say "OK Google Now" from anywhere and activate voice actions. That functionality is built in to Android 4.4... with some rather hefty limitations.

ok google

First of all, the "OK Google" command will be hardware-dependent. Google isn't saying exactly what the required silicon is, but at the moment, only the Nexus 5 will have access to the feature - even the other Nexus devices due to be updated won't be able to join in.

The Nexus 5 Will Be Available On Sprint, According To @evleaks

Reputed leaker of phones @evleaks is talking about the Nexus 5 again today, and this time we're hearing that the device will be available on the Sprint network. An image of the Nexus 5 was included in the Twitter posting, but it doesn't appear to be any different than the other renders of the Nexus 5. So how's this going to work?

Sprint support has been on the table since the radio listings leaked, so this isn't a complete surprise.

The Man Who Stole 22,500 LG G2 Smartphones Was Caught After Driving Into A Pole

Last week we reported that a truck transporting 22,500 LG G2 smartphones headed for Sprint was stolen at a truck stop in Gary, Indiana. WDRB reports that at least one man who committed this daring high-stakes robbery has been caught in Louisville, Kentucky along with the 18-wheeler he stole. How was this fiendishly clever criminal apprehended?

badboysbadboys

He drove the truck into a telephone pole.

No, seriously. Mr. Juan Perez-Gonzalez was arrested by the Kentucky State Police near the scene of the accident, where the truck apparently containing most or all of the LG phones was still sitting.
