LG's Entire Android Lineup Captured On Film Ahead Of MWC

MWC is still a few days away, and we're already starting to get some pretty great information on the devices that will shape the mobile electronics world in 2012.

Adding to the list of pre-MWC news items, the Italian blog Telefonino.net has posted a series of videos and photos, showcasing LG's complete Android lineup for 2012, from the LG Optimus 4X HD (which we mentioned yesterday) to the Optimus 3D MAX, to the Optimus LTE. Overall it's looking like LG is ready to introduce a bevy of impressively-spec'd handsets next week. It's worth mentioning ahead of time that the videos below are in Italian, but the hands-on demonstrations are worth watching anyway.

LG Outs Optimus 4X HD Ahead Of MWC - Packing Tegra 3, 720p IPS Display, And More

LG has officially unveiled the Optimus 4X HD, a rather impressive Ice Cream Sandwich-powered phone which ended up being too exciting to keep under wraps until MWC.

The Optimus 4X HD features NVIDIA's Tegra 3 processor (in all its 4-Plus-1 glory), and a handful of other powerful specs. A full list of specifications hasn't been released just yet (and presumably won't be until MWC), but here is what we know so far:

Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
Tegra 3 Quad-Core Processor at 1.5GHz
4.7" IPS display at 720p
8MP rear camera and 1.3MP front shooter
1GB RAM
16GB onboard storage
2150 mAh battery
Razor thin 8.9mm thickness
SHSPA+ 21Mbps connectivity

As things stand, the Optimus 4X HD is slated to be LG's first Ice Cream Sandwich-powered phone.

Leaked Doc Suggests Two New Devices Coming To Verizon: The DROID Fighter And LG Cayman

The folks over at Droid-life have unearthed an internal Verizon document pointing to some device workshops for two as-of-yet unknown devices. The LG Cayman (like the islands, but way smaller), and the DROID Fighter. No word yet on which manufacturer is producing the latter.

We're not sure whether the "device workshops" are public or employee training. We also don't know if they take place before or after the release of the devices. The document suggests that several other workshops have occurred this year, most of them after their respective devices release dates. Then again, for unreleased devices, we can't be sure.

LG Announces Optimus 3D Max/Cube: 1.2GHz Dual-Core, 16GB Of Storage, And 3D Video Editing - Coming To Korea In March, Europe Later

Mobile World Congress is just around the corner, and it looks like LG is trying to make a splash before the stampede of news and new devices come flowing out during the show. Yesterday they announced three new phones, and today, a fourth: the Optimus 3D Max (or Optimus 3D Cube if you're in Korea).

The spec sheet, while not lackluster, isn't exactly inspired in light of the quad-core Tegra 3 devices we'll see during the show:

Chipset: 1.2GHz Dual-Core processor (OMAP4430)

Display: 4.3-inch 3D WVGA Display with Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2

Memory: 8GB Internal Storage, 1GB Internal Memory

Camera: 5MP Dual-lens

OS: Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Android 4.0 (ICS) update "shortly after launch"

Battery: 1,520 mAh

Others: HSPA+ 21Mbps, HDMI connection 2D/3D TV/monitor up to 1080p via MHL,
DNLA for wireless connection with TV/PC (3D video also supported),
NFC Full Support, LG Tag+

The phone checks in at 9.6mm thin and 148 grams.

LG Optimus L3, L5, And L7 Android Phones Officially Announced: 3.2-4.3", Coming In The First Half Of The Year

Yesterday on their Facebook page, LG Mobile teased that something was coming today, with a heavy emphasis on "L". As promised, they revealed just what the L is today via a press release, and it turns out to be 3 new Optimus smartphones: the L3, L5, and L7. While the press release is light on actual details (but heavy on marketing mumbo-jumbo), they do reveal that the L3 will have a 3.2" screen and launch in Europe in March with Gingerbread (Android 2.3). The L5 and L7 will be 4" and 4.3" respectively, and both will pack Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) and ship sometime in the first half of 2012.

LG Spectrum Gets Root Access Thanks To Dan Rosenberg

Dan Rosenberg, a security researcher and rooting mastermind, has done it again, this time making quick work of the LG Spectrum. In a post to his blog just moments ago, Rosenberg simply states "Yawn. LG loses, users win," and gives instructions on downloading the scripts he provides for Windows, Linux, and OSX.

Considering all that Rosenberg has done (and continues to do) for the community, I'd highly recommend supporting him by hitting the donate button below. Having already taken that possibility into consideration, Rosenberg has the following to say on the subject of supporting his efforts with money:

LG's Tegra-3 Sporting P880/X3 Specs And Quadrant Leak - And It's Every Bit The Beast We Expected

Shortly after CES ended, we heard word of a new phone from LG that would be the first to sport NVIDIA's impressive new quad-core CPU, the Tegra 3. Other specs were rumored to include a 4.7" 1280x720 display, 16GB on-board storage (plus a microSD slot), a 2000mAh battery (!), an 8MP camera in the rear, and a 1.2MP front-facer.

Now, the extremely reliable Paul O'Brien of Modaco has word from a source that those specs are correct - the sole exception is that the front-facing camera is 1.3MP (not 1.2). The build used in the shots sent to him runs Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3) and the latest kernel from NVIDIA, and suggests little UI customization by LG.

Official CyanogenMod Support And Nightly Builds Come To T-Mobile's LG myTouch

CyanogenMod has been growing lately. The AOSP-based custom ROM reached one million unique installs last month, and dozens of devices are currently supported, including a wide array of LG devices. It's time to welcome a new member of that family: the T-Mobile LG myTouch.

Definition: A "nightly" is a bleeding edge release that is built on a daily basis, usually at night after a full day's worth of new code has been committed.

It could oftentimes be unstable and not properly tested, lacking any changelogs, but eventually evolving into alphas, betas, release candidates, and finally stable releases.

Like a large number of LG devices, this one is being worked on by CM team member Giulio Cervera (aka Kali-).

[Download] First CM9 Builds Released For LG Optimus 2x And G2x – Get Them While They're Hot

Earlier today, Ricardo Cerqueira (aka RC of the CM team) posted on Google+, teasing that a CM9 build for LG's Optimus 2x (P990) would be available soon. For some time now, the CM team has been keeping a spreadsheet on Google Docs, tracking the P990 build's progress, which indicates that, as of 2/9, ICS for the Optimus 2x is all but fully functional, carrying only "partial" functionality for the phone's camera and video playback capabilities.

About an hour ago, RC followed up with another post, linking users to download mirrors of the first CM9 builds for both LG's Optimus 2x and G2x (P999).

PRADA By LG 3.0's Marketing Campaign Featuring Edward Norton Utterly Confuses Us, But I Can Get Behind The Idea

Why? That is the first word that pops to mind when I see this, LG's marketing campaign for its PRADA-branded smartphone.

The second thing I think is, "I kind of want to watch Fight Club." Two hours later, I get back to thinking about just how terrible an idea this phone is, and just how great an actor Edward Norton can be. Anyways, the PRADA by LG 3.0 is being sold as a stylish smartphone, with the design-house PRADA having had at least some level of input so LG could stamp the logo on its back (and front). And in these marketing photos, it looks utterly bland.
