Leak Suggests LG G5 Will Have A Secondary Ticker Display And 'Magic Slot' Expansion Port

LG has continued to offer more modular phones that appeal to those offended by Samsung's move to unibody devices. A new leak from VentureBeat's Evan Blass (AKA @evleaks) claims that the G5 will take things a step further by adding a "Magic Slot" for installing new hardware modules, as well as a secondary display a la the V10. The report also backs up a few details we've heard before.

Sprint Sends A Marshmallow OTA Update To The LG G Stylo

Well this is a bit of a surprise. When Sprint launched its carrier-branded version of the LG G Stylo back in June of this year, it didn't garner too much attention - it's just another big-screen, low-price device filling out the mid range, albeit with a somewhat novel built-in stylus. If you were to make a list of the phones you'd expect to see rocking the latest version of Android by the end of 2015, the G Stylo might be just in front of the Kyocera Echo.

LG Announces The G Pad II 8.3 LTE With A Stylus And Full-Sized USB Port, But Only For Korea At The Moment

Back in August LG announced new versions of its G Pad tablet in both 8 and 10-inch varieties. Aside from a couple of features like an integrated stylus on the former, they weren't all that interesting, just middling updates of the previous budget-focused models. Even when one of them showed up in the US for a little carrier-branded fun, it was met with a big fat "meh." The sequel to the G Pad 8.3, which was actually quite nice when it launched back in 2013, is likewise underwhelming.

LG announced the G Pad II LTE for its home market of South Korea yesterday.

The CyanogenMod Team continues to expand its list of officially-supported devices, and now the LG section of said list is longer by four entries. All of them are CyanogenMod 13 (Android 6.0), and they're all available for download and flashing right now. At the time of writing three of them have two nightly builds, while the G2 Mini has only one.

The Sprint LG G4 Starts Getting An Update To Android 6.0 Marshmallow

When Google released the Marshmallow source code, many manufacturers were quick to jump on the news and start announcing updates to their flagships. In mid-October, LG started rolling out the android OTA in Poland first as a test, with promises to expand to other countries and operators later.

Now that update is ready for the US and Sprint is the first operator to get it. On its support page for the device, Sprint says the update was available yesterday, December 17th. It's rolling out as software version LS991ZV9 with Marshmallow and Sprint Global Roaming. There'll be a lot waiting for you when you jump from Lollipop 5.1 to Marshmallow 6.0, including app permissions, the new floating text selection toolbar with options to expand it through Google Translate or Wikipedia, better external storage integration that should be handy with the G4's MicroSD slot, and so much more.

LG Starts Rolling Out The Good Looking All-Metal Midrange LG Zero To Asia, Europe, And Latin America

Smartphones are inspirational. People see me carrying an LG G4 and want a cheaper almost just as good alternative from the brand. But up until now, LG's midrange has been lacking both in terms of specs and looks. That's why it's interesting to hear about the global rollout of a new premium'ish offering from the company that is good enough for a grand majority of users. Think of this LG Zero as the answer to Samsung's Galaxy Alpha series, but in only one configuration so far.

LG-Zero

If the design looks eerily familiar to those of you who have had smartphones for more than 5 years, it's because the LG Zero resembles a Nokia N8 with a bit of LG thrown in.
