Well, Mobile World Congress is officially underway, and Lenovo just kicked things off the only way it knows how: with three fairly mundane tablets. They've given each of the three a "subtitle" of sorts to suggest that they may actually be more than they are, but they're not fooling anyone. These are undoubtedly the "John Smith" of the tablet world – they're just average, everyday devices.

S6000

The company is touting the S6000 as its "home entertainment center." That's a pretty big title to live up to for something like a tablet, and honestly, it's almost there. Almost. There's one huge exception: the display.

Done With This Post? In the category of 7" tablets, Lenovo's A2107 is not too bad of a deal. Some specs don't quite match up to the N7; for example the screen is a little lower resolution, it only runs Android 4.0, and the processor is a little less powerful. However, where those aspects lack, this slate makes up for it with front and rear cameras and a 3G radio at a lower introductory price point. AT&T today has announced it now plans on carrying this unit in its stores, offering the device for $200 off contract.

Done With This Post? Those who bought the 9.7-inch IdeaTab A2109 model, check your Tablet Settings: users on Lenovo's official forums are reporting that their hardware is being updated to Android 4.1.1 (A2109A_A411_03_13_121126_US) today. So far only American users have confirmed the over-the-air download or the WiFi tablet.

If you're not getting your update, there's a flashable US ZIP hosted on Lenovo's servers, ripe for the taking. While China's favorite PC manufacturer tends to leave their hands off of the core of Android, they also bundle in a whole lot of extra apps, which is why you'll need nearly 400MB of free space for the Jelly Bean upgrade.

Done With This Post?
Lenovo took the wraps off its newest editions to the Ideatab tablet lineup this morning, announcing the S2110, A2107, and A2109. All three tablets cater to a different niche, with the S2110 sporting a Transformer-like keyboard dock, the A2109 coming in at a very affordable price point, and the A2107 hitting the 7" slate market.

Ideatab S2110

The Ideatab S2110 is probably the most versatile of the bunch, thanks to its keyboard dock accessory. Much like the Transformer series, the dock sports a full-size USB port and SD card reader, as well as an internal battery that doubles the overall battery life of the tablet from 10 hours to 20.

Done With This Post? This 9" slate packs a 1.2GHz Tegra 3 processor, a 1280x800 display, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. At $300, this tablet is just barely more expensive than the comparable 16GB Nexus 7. For your extra $50 you not only get a bigger screen, but a rear facing camera and HDMI output. Not bad.

So here's a novel idea: when a device reaches its end of life, manufacturers should provide users with a way to keep the flame burning. In a nutshell, that's what Lenovo has done with the Ideapad K1.

Here's the gist: the company is finished with this device. They no longer sell it, and it's clear that, past the most recent update (Android 3.2), they no longer plan to support it. So, they made a smart move: they built stock, unmodified Ice Cream Sandwich for the the K1, and released it to the public.

At the time, Engadget's tipster claimed it sported a 9.7", 4:3 IPS display, TI OMAP chip, four speakers, and microSD. Turns out they were on point with all of that (though not about the March launch date, obviously), and today, the company has released an official reveal video for the tablet.

Owners of the Lenovo Thinkpad tablet have long been waiting for a way to root their devices... in fact, the situation is so dire that there is a $785 bounty for root. Or was, anyway: Dan Rosenberg has figured out a way to root the device, and Justin Case and utkanos have managed to get ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) up and running without a hitch. Luckily, both rooting and installing CWM are quite simple (though you do need an SD card to install CWM).
