Huawei Mate 9 drops permanently to $499 ($100 off), Honor 6X to $199 ($50 off)

The Huawei Mate 9 and Honor 6X are a pair of very good phones. The prices for both of them have usually been around $599 and $249 respectively, but they have occasionally gone on sale for less. Now it looks like both phones are dropping in price permanently.

[Deal Alert] Huawei Mate 9, FIT, and Watch 2 are on sale for Prime Day

Huawei and Honor mostly sneak under the radar here in the United States, but they still make some solid Android devices. The Honor 6X already appeared on sale as part of Amazon's Prime Day, but a few other devices from Huawei are discounted too.

[Deal Alert] Get a refurbished Huawei Mate 9 for just $379.99 ($220 off) from Best Buy

Huawei may not be a big player here in the United States, but it's slowly easing itself in. The Mate 9 is the first flagship device that the Chinese OEM is officially selling here under the Huawei moniker, and it's not a bad introduction. In our Mate 9 review, we found that the Mate 9 was a solid device, and its MSRP of $599.99 was reasonable. At just $379.99 for a refurbished unit, this phablet is a downright steal.

Huawei Mate 9 review addendum: Alexa is a flop, but it's still a great phone

Huawei used to avoid releasing high-end phones in the US, but no more. The Mate 9 was launched in the US several months ago, and it was announced as the very first phone to have Amazon's Alexa built in. However, that wasn't ready at launch, and Huawei didn't even know exactly when it would be available. Alexa finally rolled out to the Mate 9 several weeks ago, but Google sort of cut Amazon off at the knees by launching Assistant on the Mate 9 and many other phones while we were waiting for this update.

As I noted in the original Mate 9 review, this is a good phone—Huawei has really turned things around in the software, the battery life is killer, and the build quality is top notch.

Alexa support is rolling out to the Huawei Mate 9

The Huawei Mate 9 was announced as the first non-Amazon device to have Amazon Alexa back at CES. However, it wasn't included when the phone shipped in the US. Huawei only said the feature would be delivered in a later update. Well, now it's later. The Alexa update has started rolling out in the US.

JerryRigEverything puts the Huawei Mate 9 through its paces, offers a thumbs up

JerryRigEverything is back with another one of his signature snuff films phone abuse videos. This time he's taking his graded MOH picks to the Mate 9, Huawei's latest premium offering. The big, bold device has been generally well-received thanks to typically solid hardware and much-improved software; shipping with Nougat was a nice touch. The JerryRigEverything YouTube channel doesn't really care about that - it's all about how much physical abuse the phone can take.

Huawei Mate 9 review: Turning a corner

Huawei has become one of the largest phone makers on the planet, and it's done so without too much help from the US market. The company has dabbled mostly with mid-range phones here, including some from the Honor sub-brand. The Mate 9 is the first phone Huawei has brought to the US that isn't explicitly going after the budget crowd. It's running the latest version of Huawei's in-house Kirin SoC, has an all metal housing, and the Leica-branded cameras are present too.

The hardware side hasn't been Huawei's problem in western markets. It's the software. I've always had trouble using Huawei phones for very long because of the many, many annoyances present in the EMUI Android skin.

Big 5.9" Huawei Mate 9 now available in the US for $599.99 with Amazon Alexa on board

The Huawei Mate 9 was announced in November and set to launch in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, with no sign of US availability. Now at CES, the company has announced that it's bringing the giant phone across the Atlantic (or Pacific, depending on which way you're traveling) and making it available for purchase immediately.

The Mate 9 is a large phone with a 5.9" 1080p IPS LCD and a massive 4000mAh battery that should easily last 2 days and charge quickly with "SuperCharge technology." It packs Huawei's new Kirin 960 processor, with ARM Cortex-A73/A53 Octa-core CPU and Mali G71 GPU, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and Huawei's now signature collaboration with Leica in the camera department: on the back, the Mate 9 has a dual-lens camera with a 12MP RGB sensor and a 20MP monochrome sensor.

Huawei announces the Mate 9 with a giant 5.9-inch display and speedy Kirin 960 SoC

Huawei has unveiled its latest smartphone, the Mate 9. It's big. How big, you ask? It has a 5.9-inch display, and it's got some big specs to go with it. This is the first phone with Huawei's latest Kirin ARM chip, a revamped version of the EMUI Android skin, and there's a Porche-designed special edition. The price is pretty big for Huawei too at €699 ($776). You might have the option to buy it in the US at some point as well.

[Update: Plum] Huawei's Mate 9 gets leaked in standard and curved screen guises, shamelessly rips off Samsung's edge devices

Chinese products don't have a great reputation for unique design, whether it be with cars, designer items, or electronics. With this leaked picture (courtesy of VentureBeat, the home of serial leaker @evleaks) of two upcoming Mate 9 models, "Manhattan" and "Long Island," Huawei isn't exactly doing that rep any favors.
