HTC Rezound owners may have a reason to get excited in the very, very near future. According to a leaked document, the Rezound may be seeing an update to Ice Cream Sandwich starting as soon as tomorrow, July 29th. The document says the OTA update should be about 292MB, so be sure to have your WiFi handy before you download.

As we mentioned before, there is a decent chance that the tip was fabricated. An update on a Sunday, "6/1" in the "available for pull" field, and inconsistent use of double digit dates are just some of the warning signs.

Of course, we are all waiting with bated breath for the arrival of Jelly Bean, but the more devices that break the 4.0 barrier, the better.

The title should make this one obvious. HTC has published a brand-new list of its devices to get Android 4.0, but the difference between this one and previous lists is the level of detail. Most phones have a target OTA deployment range of 2 months, significantly more precise than the typical "quarterly" guestimates we see manufacturers publish generally. Here's the list:

DROID Incredible 2 by HTC: To be determined (by the end of August)

HTC Amaze 4G: May-June

HTC Desire S: June-July

HTC Desire HD: July-August

HTC EVO 3D: June-July

HTC EVO 4G+: May-June

HTC EVO Design 4G: June-July

HTC Incredible S: June-July

HTC Sensation: March-June

HTC Sensation 4G: March-June

HTC Sensation XE: March-June

HTC Sensation XL: April-Jun

HTC Rezound: June-July

HTC Rhyme: June-July

HTC Thunderbolt: July-August

HTC Velocity 4G: March-June

HTC Vivid: March-June

A few notable absentees include the Inspire 4G (which is a Desire HD variant), EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, myTouch 4G, Status, and Wildfire S - though most of those weren't expected to get the update in the first place.

Back in mid-March, we gave Rezound owners their first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich. Now, we've gotten our hands on a newer build (3.13.605.7, Android 4.0.3) that should fix several of the quirks that were present in our previous leak, as well as bring new radios to the table. I can actually feel the anticipation here, so let's get to it.

Update: It turns out that this doesn't include new radios after all. Our tipster didn't make it clear that the previous screenshots were taken before he flashed the radios, so they reflected an even older build. Sorry for the confusion!

Over the past year or so, HTC devices have become notoriously more difficult to root/mod/S-Off than the devices of yesteryear. When one series of devices gets cracked, the next generation released by HTC has historically been drastically more difficult to crack.

This has been the case for some of the more recent HTC devices; namely the Amaze, Rezound, Sensation/XE, Vivid/Raider/Velocity, And MyTouch 4G Slide. Up until now, a few of those devices have never even received S-Off status. Now, though, thanks to a new method called JuopunutBear by the Unlimited Team, all of the aforementioned phones can become S-Off.

Before attempting to use JuopunutBear, you must unlock your device with HTC's official bootloader unlock tool.

Last week, we got word from a Best Buy tipster that ICS updates would be rolling out to the Droid RAZR/MAXX on April 4th and the HTC Rezound on April 6th. If you've checked the calendar lately, then you're probably aware that today is April 5th - one day later than ICS was supposed to hit the RAZR Twins. Still, that OTA is nowhere in sight (soak test details for the RAZRs did surface yesterday, but it wasn't ICS).

Now, we've received word from another source at Best Buy (and verified with several more) that according to their internal employee news system, the ICS update has indeed been delayed for the RAZRs, but should still be on schedule for the Rezound.

Ice Cream Sandwich. It's more than a buzzword in the Android community right now - it's what most users are waiting for in one way or another. Some are waiting on the update to roll out to their device, while others are still waiting to find out if their device will even get the update. For HTC Rezound users, however, the wait ends today - as long as they're willing to flash a leaked firmware, that is.

This is a release candidate for the OTA and by no means a final version.

Update: Here's the changelog:

Features/Enhancements
1. Android OS 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
2.  CMAS support added
3.

Verizon Wireless has just made public an official list of handsets on the network poised to receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OTA updates, most being devices for which such updates were a given at this point:

HTC:

  • HTC ThunderBolt™
  • DROID Incredible 2 by HTC
  • HTC Rhyme™
  • HTC Rezound™

Motorola:

  • Motorola XOOM
  • DROID BIONIC™
  • DROID RAZR™
  • DROID RAZR™ MAXX™
  • DROID 4
  • DROID XYBOARD 8.2
  • DROID XYBOARD 10.1

Samsung:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 10.1
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 7.7

LG:

  • Spectrum™ by LG

No timeframe was provided, but this is probably the most authoritative ICS update list you'll see out there, if for only one reason: in the end, it's Verizon that decides whether or not a device on its network gets updated.

Last week, HTC detailed the Android 4.0 update for several handsets, but many U.S. models were noticeable absent form the list. Today, the Taiwanese manufacturer has taken to its Facebook page to highlight some of the North American handsets that will see the update, most of which are on Verizon. It's a shorty, but goodie:

  • Thunderbolt
  • Rhyme
  • Droid Incredible 2
  • Rezound
  • Raider (Rogers and Bell in Canada)

Sadly, HTC left out any timeline details, so we really have no idea of knowing when to expect these update to roll out.

Stay tuned for more info on HTC's ICS update releases, as it has yet to announce Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile device update plans.
