Although I've dropped a phone a total of about three times in my life, and although manufacturers are continually touting more and more durable glass, polycarbonate plastic, and even metal that's 3x stronger than stainless steel, there lingers in the back of my mind the question of what may happen if and when that fateful day comes – the day when I finally drop my phone onto an unforgiving concrete, asphalt, or otherwise hard surface. Some EVO 4G LTE Users Are Noticing Light Bleed Issues On A Few Units

If you have an EVO 4G LTE from Sprint, you may want to take a closer look at your unit before your initial 30 14 days are up if you're still within that timeframe. Some users over at XDA are reporting that their devices are experiencing light bleed around the home button when the button is lit up and the display is darkened. If you want to test out your unit, the app Dead Pixel Test can help.

The image above was taken in a long-exposure shot in a dark room, so the light bleed issue shouldn't be quite so noticeable.

HTC: We Want To Keep Our Image Positive, So Don't Expect Any 'Cheap, Cheap' Phones From Us

Here's an interesting turn of events: just one week after announcing a new budget device, HTC CEO Peter Chou told the Wall Street Journal that the Taiwanese manufacturer will not cater to the low-end phone market. To be exact, he said that "[they] don't want to destroy [their] brand image," so they won't sell "cheap, cheap phones" just to boost shipments. Given the ambiguity of his statements, it's hard to say what his definition of low end actually is. Could he mean they won't ship anymore One V-type phones? Or does that fall into the mid-range category given the superior construction and quality materials?

Some HTC One Xs Are Experiencing Serious WiFi Antenna Issues - Fix Isn't For The Faint Of Heart

The HTC One X is a damn good phone. Unfortunately, the One X's overall quality seems not to have been incorporated into HTC's quality control - already there have been reports of bothersome game lag, and now XDA user bigoliver has shed light on an even more grave concern: the WiFi antenna has been acting up on many devices.

As demonstrated in the video, finding out whether your One X is affected is simple:

Gently squeeze the side back of your phone, between the camera lens and the volume buttons, if your WIFI signal strength improves only to drop back down when you stop squeezing then you have this seemingly common fault.

Just a few weeks ago, we asked you what phone you would buy if you had to choose one today - the HTC One X, or the Samsung Galaxy S III. Surprisingly, people were pretty closely split, with the tally as of writing 56% SGSIII, 44% HOX. But that was in the sort of limbo-zone when we'd seen plenty of glowing reviews of the One X and the SGSIII had yet to be proven. Now, the field is a little more empty, with international variants of the SGSIII out for a few weeks and a number of reviews having dropped.

Apple Renews ITC Complaint Against HTC For Data Tapping, Now Says Android Itself Infringes With Long-Press URL Dialogues

Apple has filed a new complaint with the ITC against HTC over the same data-tapping patent that caused a substantial disruption of HTC's supply line into the United States, and resulted in delayed or stifled launches for a number of phones.

After removing the multi-option dialogue that appeared upon pressing a phone number in an email or webpage from its devices, HTC proclaimed it was clear of Apple's patent on data-tapping techniques. Apple seems to think they're wrong - and is now claiming that a core Android functionality (long-press URL action prompting a multi-selection dialogue) is infringing on the patent.

There are many cheap Android phones on the market today. Most of these devices will have a single core processor clocked at around 1GHz, and there won't be an awful lot of RAM to speak of either. This remains true of the HTC One V, but the latest budget phone to come out of the Taiwanese company has one key difference: it's running the latest version of Android.

That's right, you can finally own a budget device that doesn't ship with a version of Android that was released 2 years ago! Before you start celebrating too soon, though, you may want to take a look at some of the pros and cons that come with this phone and decide whether you want to take it on a 2-year contractual spin.

Sony And HTC Are Partnering To Bring PlayStation Certification To HTC Devices

Back in February, we heard that HTC might be getting PlayStation Certification on some of its phones. Today at E3, Sony announced that it will be opening up the PlayStation Mobile program, which was previously known as PlayStation Suite, to HTC. This means, among other things, that HTC phones that receive PS Certification will be able to play the host of classic PlayStation games available. Additionally, HTC devices will also have access to the third-party apps and games developed using the SDK.

It's hard to say whether this is bigger news for HTC or Sony. On the one hand, having not-quite-but-kind-of exclusive access to PlayStation games gives HTC a competitive edge over Samsung and Motorola and the other Android manufacturers.

HTC Drops Kernel Source Code For One S - Once Again Neglects The US Version On T-Mobile

HTC has given developers another treat today, in the form of kernel source code for the HTC One S. HTC's Dev Center has the downloads available, categorized by carrier and region. Unfortunately, the US variant on T-Mobile is conspicuously absent from the list. Previously, when HTC released the kernel source for the One X, the AT&T version was similarly missing and remains so to this day.

HTC hasn't explained why the US models are being left off the list, though it isn't difficult to imagine that the US carriers are simply more fussy than operators elsewhere in the world. In any case, if you use an HTC One S outside the states, and have need of the source code for your device's kernel, it's buffet time.
