Oprah EVO 4G video

Probably the most awaited phone of 2010 - the super sexy HTC EVO 4G (formerly HTC Supersonic) made an appearance today on a none other than an Oprah Winfrey show.

Sprint let her play with the device and we got to catch a quick glimpse of it, thanks to fanboydestroyer from Hawtwired.com (this is the proper credit which was apparently mishandled by some other site owners) who recorded this video from his TV:

The curves, the looks - June can't come fast enough.

T-Mobile has announced a new addition to their line of smartphones, with the introduction of the myTouch 3G Slide. Although we’ve seen it unofficially before now, the press release confirms some interesting software additions to the device, amongst other details.

Running Android 2.1, the myTouch 3G Slide consists of a 3.4-inch HVGA touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for text input. You’ll find a 5 megapixel camera with a flash, so that you can take pictures on the move, and an 8GB microSD card as standard to house all your media and apps.

evo-4g-at-sprint-rm-eng

What have we here: it looks like a user over at the ppcgeeks forums has nabbed himself a picture of an Evo 4G sitting pretty at a corporate Sprint store in Florida. Granted the picture is so blurry that it looks more like a Jackson Pollack painting than a spy-shot, but we’ll take what we can get.

Of course, with pictures like this, you always want to take things with a grain of salt - the blurrier the shot is, the easier it is to hide any digital alterations and in this case, there are plenty of reasons to doubt the veracity of this image:

  • It’s low quality
  • The forum poster has since removed it
  • It was posted on a forum to begin with
  • It was hanging out in a store, yet there’s not even a release date?

CyanogenMod 5.0.7 for MT3G and G1

The moment you, MyTouch 3G and G1 users, have been waiting for is here! Only minutes ago Cyanogen announced the availability of CyanogenMod 5.0.7 ROM (v. Test1) which brings Android 2.1 to MT3G and G1:

Full instructions and downloads for this first version (Test1) are available at this CyanogenMod forum post and are cached below (the forum is SLAMMED).

G1 users: note that you need "DangerSPL" (or DeathSPL or Haykuro's SPL or whatever you prefer) in order for this ROM to fit onto your phone.

HTC Legend rooted

As promised earlier today, the HTC Legend rooting guide has been posted by PaulOBrien, the founder of MoDaCo.com.

Paul, who rooted the HTC Desire earlier this week, is on a roll!

Here are the current instructions (29/Apr r1) from Paul himself:

Read this whole topic - it contains a ton of useful information as well as the instructions and downloads!
Remember that if you use this guide, you do so entirely at your own risk!

Amazon HTC Droid Incredible for $99

Wow, what a day. First, Wirefly.com announced a special price that was cheaper than Verizon's or Best Buy's, and now Amazon.com one-upped them and is currently offering the HTC Droid Incredible at $99!

That's $100 cheaper than VZW.com (which is currently sold out) or Best Buy, and comes with a FREE 2-day shipping when purchased with a service plan.

Moreover, Amazon traditionally doesn't charge any tax in most states. We are not sure whether they do on the phones or not so if someone could clarify that in the comments, it would be great.

android 2.1on G1 and MyTouch

Early Android adopters will soon be able to use Android 2.1 on the G1 and MyTouch 3G thanks to Cyanogen, with the release of CyanogenMod 5.0.7.

The latest version of the ROM should be available to users in no time at all, with a public beta arriving at some point today according to Cyanogen’s tweet:

Cyanogen Android 2.1 on G1 and MyTouch 3G tweet

Some compromises may need to be made to allow Android 2.1 to fit on the G1 and MyTouch 3G due to limited available space on the devices - in fact, this is what is causing the delay before the release is live.

HTC Legend rooted

Only a day after @PaulOBrien, the founder of MoDaCo.com, defeated HTC's new protection techniques and successfully rooted HTC Desire, he strikes again with a successful root of HTC Legend, using pretty much the same methods.

The hack is coming ASAP but for now we can all admire the following beauty in tweet form:

Update: a new tweet from Paul:

HTC Legend rooted

Update: full instructions now available!

Of course, we will update you when the details of the root become public.

Wirefly.com loves posting useful phone videos, and the latest one is no exception.

In this video, Wirefly compares the new HTC Droid Incredible (which you can get here for a better price than your Verizon store) to the Motorola Droid in a series they like to call "Schmackdown" (we won't even mention the cheesiness of the name here).

Here are the highlights from the video that I annotated in my favorite bullet point format:

Hardware

  • Comparable size-wise
  • Motorola Droid is thicker and heavier
  • Motorola Droid has a physical keyboard while the Incredible doesn't
  • Both have a virtual keyboard
  • Speech-to-text on both phones
  • Both have a dual LED flash
  • 1GHz and 512MB RAM on the Incredible and 550MHz and 256MB RAM on the Moto Droid
  • The Incredible has an 8MP camera vs Motorola Droid's 5MP
  • No MicroSD preinstalled on the Incredible, though it comes with an 8GB internal storage while the Motorola Droid comes with a 16GB MicroSD card
  • Same buttons on the outside of the phones but the Incredible has a trackpad on the front while the Motorola Droid has it on the inside
  • Both have a 3.7" display but the Incredible has a 480x800 px resolution while the Motorola Droid has 480x854 px
  • Droid Incredible has an AMOLED display
  • Battery life on the Incredible is not as good as the Motorola Droid

Software

  • Both are running Android 2.1
  • Incredible has HTC Sense (with additional apps and widgets) on top of Android while the Motorola Droid has vanilla Android 2.1
  • Incredible has Scenes which are like presets for your home screens while the Moto Droid doesn't have this feature
  • Incredible has some Flash support while the Moto Droid doesn't (though full Flash 10.1 support is going to come with Android 2.2)
  • Incredible seems to have a faster browser, probably due to hardware (both are on Verizon data network)

The video follows:

So, who wins?
