[Deal Alert] HTC Hot Deals Is Offering The One M8 For $499 ($150 Off), RE Camera For $149 ($50 Off), And Select M8 Cases For 50% Off, This Weekend Only

It's no mystery HTC is preparing to announce its latest flagship the One M9 in just a couple of weeks. Naturally, it's time to clear out some inventory space to make way for new products, and that means cutting prices. HTC Hot Deals is running a weekend-long sale on the RE Camera, the One M8, and a selection of custom cases.

We've seen some better deals (for $300, and $350) on the One M8 in the last month, but they've been limited to the AT&T model, and only available as refurbs. This sale offers brand new units for every major US carrier, the Developer Edition, Unlocked International Edition, and even the Harmon/Kardon Edition for Sprint.

HTC's Video Player Makes Its Way To The Play Store To Facilitate Faster Updates

HTC has been one of the most prominent OEMs to adopt the Play Store as its apps' update ground, decoupling them from the software and thus making it possible to update them separately and regardless of firmware versions, operator approval, and so on. The latest app to join the independent fold is HTC's Video Player.

This is the same video player that's built inside HTC's Sense UI layer, with multiple format decoding, gesture controls (two-finger swipes act as FF and RW for example), streaming, still image capturing, and subtitle support. The player also allows a few simple editing tweaks like trimming and playback speed adjustment for slow-motion videos (on select phones).

HTC Updates Zoe With Support For Android Lollipop, New Highlight Engine, And More

HTC Zoe is a social network of sorts built around video highlights. According to the latest update's changelog, the app now works on devices running the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, including the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9. Here it is on my updated HTC One M7.

That's not all this release has in store. The list of changes includes a new highlight engine that enables new themes, effects, and transitions. It also brings in support for higher-quality video, and you're able to download your own high-definition Zoes to your device. The discovery feed has apparently retrieved a tweak or two, but overall, the experience still looks largely the same.

HTC Posts Full 1.5GB RUU For The T-Mobile One M8 Lollipop Upgrade

[Update: Live] HTC Says T-Mobile's One M8 Will Get Its Lollipop OTA Starting On Monday, February 9th

HTC missed its 90-day goal to deliver Android 5.0 upgrades to all owners of the One M8 and One M7. They're very sorry about that. But to give credit where it's due, it does seem like the company is genuinely trying to get its hardware updated as soon as possible. Sprint's One M8 and M7 have both been given the update, European M8 owners got it in late January, and owners of the unlocked, developer edition, and Google Play Edition of both phones should all have the update by now.

Sprint's HTC One M8 Lollipop Update Has Apparently Been Pushed Up From February 13th To Today

Yesterday we got our hands on a leaked Sprint document suggesting that the HTC One M8 would get its Android 5.0 update on February 13th. Next to it in parenthesis were the words subject to change. As it turns out, sometimes things actually do change. The carrier has posted an HTC One M8 support page that says the over-the-air update is going out today.

The software bumps things up to software version 4.20.651.10 and provides a sweet serving of Lollipop. I received the big 5.0 OTA for the HTC One M7 yesterday, and while it's not the same phone, things line up pretty well with the M8 screenshots that have already made the rounds.
