Have you been annoyed by the "SmartSync" battery-saving feature found on HTC's newest phones? If you're not familiar with this aspect of Sense 4.0, that might make, well, sense. HTC has been fairly quiet about how exactly its battery optimizations in Sense work, but SmartSync is a big part of it, especially when it comes to saving juice overnight.

All Sense 4 phones (HTC One X, XL, S, V and EVO 4G LTE) utilize this feature to reduce battery consumption in the wee-hours, specifically from 12AM to 7AM. After 15 minutes of inactivity (no emails, screen off, etc.) in this time frame, Sense 4 phones go into "SmartSync" mode - deactivating all data connections and turning off sync.

Earlier today, we took a look at the SPIGEN Crumena Case for the HTC One X. Like the same case for the Galaxy Nexus, this is a classy holster-style case with a superior build-quality and looks to match.

We know how much you love free accessories, so we've teamed up with SPIGEN to offer up ten white Crumena cases for the HTC One X (the white case looks especially sexy with the white One X) to ten lucky readers.

Here is a list of things that I loved about the Crumena case for the Galaxy Nexus, which also apply to the One X version:

  • It's simple.

This is the latest in our Weekend Poll series. For last week's, see Is A Carrier Move To Data-Only Service A Win Or Loss For Consumers?

Just a few weeks ago, we asked you what phone you would buy if you had to choose one today - the HTC One X, or the Samsung Galaxy S III. Surprisingly, people were pretty closely split, with the tally as of writing 56% SGSIII, 44% HOX. But that was in the sort of limbo-zone when we'd seen plenty of glowing reviews of the One X and the SGSIII had yet to be proven. Now, the field  is a little more empty, with international variants of the SGSIII out for a few weeks and a number of reviews having dropped.

When David took a look at AT&T's variant of the One X, he loved it. More than Ron cared for Sprint's version, anyway. If you're looking to get in on HTC's latest, Amazon is offering the gray version of the One X for $129.99 to both new and upgrading customers. Sure, you won't get the pretty white casing, but with the exception of the color on the outside, everything on the inside is the same.

The price is about $70 off of the usual $200 subsidized price with an AT&T contract. At the moment, the One X is one of, if not the best Android phone you can get on the market right now.

That's a lofty claim, isn't it? Isn't there a new "next generation" every year? Well, to answer that last question, not always. But technology is evolving at such a rapid pace in the mobile world that we can scarcely buy a phone today without something better coming out a month later. And today, just days from Samsung's announcement of the next Galaxy phone, everyone is watching with bated breath to see what comes next.

But in the here and now, HTC's One X will be within your wallet's reach in those same, few short days. The "next big thing" won't be around, likely, for months.
