Dell sells computers. They also sell other stuff. Usually we don't care - after all, Amazon sells even more other stuff, and most of the time it's cheaper. But every once in a while Dell comes up with a jaw-dropping deal. Like today: you can pick up a Sprint HTC One from the Dell Mobility Store for $50 on-contract for new customers. That's a cool $150 off the retail price. But wait, there's more...

The Verizon Moto X page just went live yesterday, and now the HTC One has broken cover as well. As usual, you can insert your email if you would like the "latest information" on the HTC One from Verizon. That's probably a lie, but still your call.

This appears to be the same HTC One from other carriers, but Verizon did manage to get its name and the LTE logo stamped on the back (the Moto X only has the Verizon part of the logo).

We knew it wouldn't be long, and sure enough, the Android 4.3 update has started hitting Google Play Edition devices. Both the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 from Google Play are currently receiving update notifications. If you're lucky enough to have one of these devices, commence mashing the update button at your leisure.

The updates for both devices are developed by the OEMs, but there are no modifications to the UI and no carrier testing to get in the way.

While we haven't heard much on the Android 4.3 update news front for the One or Galaxy S4 GPE other than "soon," it sounds like soon really may mean soon. HTC just released the Android 4.3-based kernel source and framework files for the One GPE on HTCdev.

The corresponding software version for the source and framework is 3.06.1700.10, while the kernel version remains unchanged at 3.4.10. You can download the kernel right here, and the framework files here.

The AT&T-branded variant of the HTC One has a new maintenance update available, bringing the device to version 1.26.502.15. HTC's official announcement and update instructions can be found here. This is the second OTA update to be issued to the AT&T version of HTC's flagship handset, and the changelog is but a single item long. That item? "LTE Enhancements." Hooray! (?)

According to a growing XDA thread, the update is around 245MB, though it downloads much more quickly than one would expect it to for a package of that size.

Though there's a definite streak among power users to prefer Google's "pure" Android on their phones, some of the manufacturer skins from HTC and Samsung have charming features as well. Modder and ROM developer Paul O'Brien, better known as MoDaCo, has been testing a solution to give you the best of both worlds. MoDaCo.SWITCH is a dual-boot solution for power users that lets two ROMs (manufacturer stock and AOSP, for example) which share user data, allowing a seamless switch between interfaces.

The T-Mobile variant of the HTC One hasn't gotten an update since May, but the one rolling out now is not the fabled Android 4.2.2 out on the international version. No, this is still 4.1.2.

Prepare to temper your expectations, HTC One owners on Sprint. In the coming days you will see the update notification pop up, but it's not Android 4.2. It's not even a very substantial update. But hey, it's still an update, and that's more than a lot of phones get.

In what PhoneArena calls a "leaked internal memo," launch dates for the Verizon versions of the HTC One and the upcoming Moto X are allegedly revealed - August 1st and August 23rd, respectively. It also adds to the growing pile of evidence that the Moto X will be coming to Verizon sans-DROID branding. Is there any reason to take stock in this rather generic looking document, though?

My gut leaning is "yes," but there are caveats to leaked internal communications like these.

In case that Google Play Edition HTC One doesn't strike your fancy, or the price tag is too outlandish, there's always the subsidized carrier version. Amazon has chopped a bit more off the cost of the HTC One on both AT&T and Sprint. Both devices are now $49.99 with a new line on a 2-year contract.

This deal matches what WireFly did for the Sprint model last month, but that retailer doesn't offer AT&T phones at all.
