According to HTC Americas President Jason Mackenzie, a bunch of HTC One owners across North America will soon receive an update to Android 4.3. He just sent out the following tweet.

This news comes more as confirmation than as a surprise.

The HTC One is getting on toward middle age, but it's still one of the top Android devices you can buy. What's more, you can buy it for next to nothing on Sprint. Amazon previously dropped the price to $49.99, but now it's almost free at just $0.01.

As with most Sprint deals, this one is only available on new lines of service. That means new accounts, or new lines on a family plan.

Verizon may have just gotten the HTC One, but it's hard to call it a "new" phone. Other carriers have been selling the aluminum slab for a few months now. It's getting to the point where that on-contract price is downright reasonable. For example, right now the Verizon HTC One is $49.99 on both Amazon and Best Buy.

You can get this deal whether you're a new customer or you're upgrading an existing line.

If you're using a stock HTC One from the Google Play Store, check your phone's notification drawer. Go on, check it. I'll wait. If you're one of the lucky few, you may be seeing a special surprise in the form of a software update. At least one XDA Developers member got the update to version 3.07.1700.1 earlier this morning, though he was using a standard model One that he'd soft-converted into a Google Play Edition.

The HTC One first debuted in silver, and I suspect using Robert Downey Jr. to advertise this handset might just be a match made in heaven, because like Iron Man, the phone has also appeared in shades of red and black (though not yellow). Now Best Buy is rolling in a new version of the HTC One that the Iron Patriot could proudly hold to his ear, a blue version that's exclusive to the big box retailer launching on September 15.

The week is just getting started, but HTC is dropping new devices like it's going out of style. No, it's not that rumored One Max we've been hearing about. The company is breathing new life into the Desire brand with the mid-range Desire 601 and the entry-level Desire 300. HTC is also announcing a Bluetooth subwoofer accessory for BoomSound devices and a new "Vivid Blue" HTC One.

HTC fans who prefer Verizon (or who have no choice), your long wait is over. After months of rumors and teases, the HTC One flagship is finally available on Verizon, the last of the four major American carriers to get the phone. It turned up on the Verizon web store early this morning right on schedule for $199.99 on-contract, or $599.99 if you want it "free" and clear.

Verizon's One is identical to those on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint, except for the obvious CDMA and LTE radio bands.

HTC Americas President Jason Mackenzie just tweeted the following.

And there you have it. Just a day after 4.3 was promised for the developer edition HTC One by Mr. Mackenzie, he's clarified that statement to include all US and Canadian Ones (and the Verizon DROID DNA) with a deadline before the end of September.

If you sprang for an HTC One Developer Edition back when the phone was launched and have been patiently waiting for your Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update, you might as well stop waiting. But that's a good thing! According to a Twitter post from HTC's Global Sales President and Head of America Jason Mackenzie, the Developer Edition will skip right over the incremental 4.2.2 update and go straight to 4.3.

As of this morning, we finally know when the HTC One is launching on America's reddest network: August 22nd. But if you're not the kind of person who pays full price for anything, and obviously not on-contract smartphones, you probably know you're better off waiting for a deal on a new phone from a 3rd-party retailer. Wirefly to the rescue - they're already accepting pre-orders on the VZW HTC One, and they're charging a full 25% less than what Verizon's asking, at $149.99 for both new subscribers and upgrades.
