In case you Droid Incredible owners were jealous that the much older Motorola Droid was getting Froyo, you can rest easy – your Froyo update is good and ready, and it’s set to go out Wednesday, August 18.

The update is over-the-air, so your phone should prompt you to install it. If you don’t want to wait, you can check for the update manually by going to Settings, About Phone, then System Updates. Verizon employees already have access to the update, so there shouldn’t be any problems or bugs.

If you receive the update, be sure to let us know how it works for you.

unrevokedforever

This tool does appear to do a permanent NAND unlock, irreversibly voiding your phone’s warranty, proceed with caution.[/note]

This night keeps getting better and better. The unrevoked team just announced the release of their anticipated Unrevoked Forever tool. What does it do? While the summary provided by unrevoked is a far better explanation, I’ll keep it short and sweet: once you install unrevoked forever, your phone can flash unsigned updates, no matter what, forever. At the moment, “your phone” must be an EVO 4G or an HTC Incredible and run the specified baseband versions as shown below.

Your phone must be rooted and running a custom recovery to apply the unrevoked forever update.zip.

The following post by XDA member scuccia popped earlier today on the HTC Droid Incredible section of the XDA forums:

Here is a Stock 2.2 ROM with Sense based off the upcoming Froyo OTA. This is completely stock with the additions of su, Superuser.apk and busybox.
Everything has been confirmed working. Camera, camcorder, Wifi, bluetooth, GPS, MMS, etc...
A full wipe and 2.x radio is required.
If you don't have a 2.x radio already you can find instructions instruction here.

Get the ROM here!
There are quite a few new additions that have been included. HTC Flashlight, FM Radio widget, Calculator widget, SMS widget, Sync all widget, profile widgets, 3g mobile hotspot, genie widget, App sharing program, messaging app changed a bit, 720p recording, built in flash on camcorder, and more stuff that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Droid%20Incedible%20Update

Many blogs and websites have reported over the past several days that an OTA update was coming for the Droid Incredible which included the following updates:

  • 720p video recording (sweeeeeeet!)
  • Verizon’s mobile hotspot app
  • Integrated Skype app
  • Cool new “Droid” boot animation

For the record, I’ve had my Incredible since the beginning of May and have seen only one minor update (update 1) since then. Apparently, this most recent OTA was a "rolling" update and was supposed to hit Incredible owners over the last week or so.

If you haven’t yet received your OTA update, I may have a possible reason why.

Unrevoked 3

Unrevoked, a tool that brought the ability to run applications that require root and originally developed for the HTC EVO 4G and HTC Hero, was just updated to version 3.

Unrevoked 3

With this new version 3, Unrevoked finally brings a 1-click root solution to the HTC Droid Incredible that also allows you to flash a custom ClockworkMod recovery, custom ROMs, and take backups of your phone with Nandroid Backup.

Compared to version 2, you no longer need a previously rooted phone - Unrevoked 3 roots for you.

The only thing that Unrevoked doesn't do is unlock NAND permanently, meaning you won't be able to write to the system partition after the OS boots and therefore won't be able to uninstall various carrier installed garbage apps.

While its author openly claims the ROM is far from perfect, most Incredible owners would probably be happy to give this new ROM, codenamed Sky Raider, a whirl simply to see what Froyo+Sense feel like on their rare, practically extinct, phones.

While have not yet tested Sky Raider ourselves, the installation should be familiar to most rooted Incredible owners who have flashed a ROM before.

Note: this ROM appears to require a full wipe (system/user data or “factory” reset).

PSA: HTC Droid Incredible Now In Stock At Amazon.com

If you've been trying to get your hands on the HTC Droid Incredible ever since it launched and you didn't reserve one in a preorder, you may have had some trouble finding one in stock. In fact, even some later preorders have not been filled yet.

The phone is still sold out everywhere, including VZW, with ship dates going as far as August:

PSA: HTC Droid Incredible For Verizon Now In Stock At Amazon.com, Ships In 24 Hours

The situation with the Droid Incredible, caused by shortages of AMOLED screens, got so bad that Verizon actually allowed customers to switch their preorders to Droid X instead.

One of Droid-Life.com readers noticed today that Amazon's availability just went from backordered to "ships in 24 hours".

Update schedules are rarely a final thing, and users can get quite angry when they don’t receive updates according to schedule. However, HTC may have finally given themselves a schedule that they can adhere to: all of their recently released phones will be updated to Android 2.2 “before Christmas.” They had previously announced that ‘several’ models would receive the update in Q3 2010, so it’s unclear if this announcement means that timetable has shifted.

While rumors say that the HTC Desire could receive the update in August, other HTC phones might not be updated for several months. HTC’s higher-end devices, such as the Droid Incredible and EVO, will likely be updated fairly quickly.

Droid-Life has a source, including pictures and a video, showing that the Droid Incredible will be getting an OTA update… sometime. They don’t have an ETA, but it shouldn’t be far off. The key new features it brings are 720p video recording, 3G mobile hotspot, and (most importantly of all), the usual “DROID” red eye bootup.

Pretty awesome that when Android phones get OTA updates, they tend to bring awesome new features. Gotta love the Goog’.

The crew behind the original easy root for HTC EVO 4G and HTC Hero - unrEVOked - has released unrEVOked2 (UR2) – a tool that lets you replace your phone's (see below for supported models) stock Android recovery with the ClockworkMod recovery. ClockworkMod allows users to create nandroid backups, use custom ROMs, and otherwise customize the phone.

UR2 does not unlock the NAND on the phone permanently - it only does it long enough to install a custom recovery.

When coupled with the original unrEVOked, UR2 provides means to easily root (albeit without a permanent NAND unlock) and install ClockworkMod on all of these phones:

  • HTC EVO 4G
  • HTC Droid Incredible
  • HTC Desire
  • HTC Aria

Version 2, released today, adds the following features:

  • Mac OS X: Added support for 10.5, not just 10.6.
