The new HTC Desire HD and Desire Z handsets are coming very soon, and we're incredibly excited about both of them (just take a look at that 5-second Fast Boot technology again).

In order to keep our excitement going, HTC just pushed out a new video of these bad boys flying up in the air, showing themselves off in various ways. I even got slight chills a bit at the end but I think it's mostly due to the epic music selection.

Here’s something to get your teeth into. Over at LaptopMag, a whole host of Androids have been put through their paces in a grueling battery life endurance test. The goal was to keep the phones’ screens on while doing a moderate amount of processing, namely cyclically browsing a collection of web pages. Despite the supposed power savings afforded by AMOLED screens, the phones employing that screen technology fell quite a ways behind in comparison to the traditional LCD phones.

HTC's new version of Sense UI - which runs exclusively on the Desire Z and Desire HD (officially, at least) - is really shaping up to be an exception to the tradition of custom Android skins turning the operating system into a nightmare.

As of today, users of the HTC EVO 4G, the Droid Incredible, and the original GSM Desire, can thank the clever forum members over at xda-developers for five-second boot-up times they can call their own, along with all the other great features of HTC's latest skin.

It appears that Verizon got a little bit too excited about the "end of September" switch-over for the Droid Incredible's screen. As an internal memo revealed to us a couple of weeks ago, the Droid Incredible was slated to make the switch from an AMOLED screen to SLCD (Super LCD) at the end of September but, as these snapshots show us, the future is now.

You may not notice the difference but the SKU has changed.

Well, it looks like that shortage of AMOLED screens people have been talking about has finally started to affect more devices than just the Nexus One. This snapshot of a Verizon internal memo reveals that the Droid Incredible will, in fact, be making a change from AMOLED to S(uper)LCD:

Basically, this means that the quality of the Droid Incredible's screen is going to go down a little bit. While SLCD is still definitely high-end smartphone worthy (It's what the HTC Desire has in the U.S.), there will be a noticeable difference.

This is seriously impressive stuff - the guys from the unrevoked team did it again, and this version 3.2 is definitely their best release yet. Most of the credit, outside of the core unrevoked team, belongs to Sebastian Krahmer for discovering the exploit that works on all supported phones.

This article mentions rooting, Nandroid, and flashing of custom ROMs. If you’re unfamiliar with some of the terms, hit up our primers here:

CM1

Looks like CyanogenMod 6, Android's most popular ROM, has made its way out of the RC's and into final release. I've been running CM6 on my EVO for a little over a month now, and I love it. And as most people know, CM6 now covers a fair number of devices:

[Update @ 1:10 PM EST by Aaron] Looks like the update is rolling out starting tomorrow. Nice!

incredible-froyo-update

Despite the fact that FroYo for the Droid Incredible's big brother - Sprint's  EVO 4G - was officially released a few weeks ago, the Incredible itself has yet to receive the update.

We still don't have an official release date (although there are countless rumors floating around), but we may now be one step closer: a new FroYo ROM for the Incredible has been released.

Remember that pesky rumor sparked up by Mashable a while back, claiming that the Incredible would be receiving the Froyo OTA update right about now? Well, if you are still clutching your phone and frantically checking for system updates as the day 08/18 draws to a close … you can take a rain check on that system update. Tweeted out earlier by the Verizon Wireless support account @VZWsupport, there is no confirmed date for the Froyo release and it will not be happening today.
