HTC Publishes Official, Detailed List Of Phones To Get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Updates

The title should make this one obvious. HTC has published a brand-new list of its devices to get Android 4.0, but the difference between this one and previous lists is the level of detail. Most phones have a target OTA deployment range of 2 months, significantly more precise than the typical "quarterly" guestimates we see manufacturers publish generally. Here's the list:

DROID Incredible 2 by HTC: To be determined (by the end of August)

HTC Amaze 4G: May-June

HTC Desire S: June-July

HTC Desire HD: July-August

HTC EVO 3D: June-July

HTC EVO 4G+: May-June

HTC EVO Design 4G: June-July

HTC Incredible S: June-July

HTC Sensation: March-June

HTC Sensation 4G: March-June

HTC Sensation XE: March-June

HTC Sensation XL: April-Jun

HTC Rezound: June-July

HTC Rhyme: June-July

HTC Thunderbolt: July-August

HTC Velocity 4G: March-June

HTC Vivid: March-June

A few notable absentees include the Inspire 4G (which is a Desire HD variant), EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, myTouch 4G, Status, and Wildfire S - though most of those weren't expected to get the update in the first place.

HTC Unloads Kernel Source Code For A Bevy Of Devices, Including The One V

HTC, keeping up with its recent pattern of speedy source release, has dropped official ICS kernel source code for a heaping handful of devices, perhaps most notably the One V, a member of HTC's new One line which hasn't yet debuted in many countries.

Other devices include the US variant of the Vivid and several iterations of the Sensation, with the Desire HD and myTouch 4G Slide's Gingerbread (2.3) kernel source also being dropped.

Those interested in tweaking or developing with the official kernel source of the above devices should head over to HTC's Developer Center (linked below) to grab the downloads.

HTC Adds Bootloader Unlock Compatibility For Desire HD, Additional Desire And Wildfire Models

Those following HTC's efforts to liberate bootloaders everywhere have a bit more to talk about tonight, as the Taiwanese manufacturer added support for a handful of devices.

For those not in the loop, HTC pledged to enable unlocking the bootloaders of all devices released after September 2011, but is doing the community one better by extending support to older models as well. HTC allows users to unlock their bootloaders using a quick, (relatively) easy online tool.

Among the newly unlockable devices are the original Desire, the Desire HD, Wildfire, and Wildfire S. To get started, just head over to HTC's Bootloader Unlock page.

Skype For Android Updated To v2.1 With Official Video Support For 17 More Devices (Including EVO 3D/4G, Thunderbolt, SGS1/2), And Unofficial Support For Any 2.2+ Device

Skysoft... errr, I mean Skype updated its previously measly Android device support from 5 devices to more than 20 today with the introduction of version 2.1 of its Android app. There are no new features outside of expanded device support, which was badly needed in order for the app to climb out of the sea of 1-star reviews (although stability and quality improvements would have made today's release even sweeter).

Update: Other devices with 2.2+ should work, but you need to enable Video support in the settings, according to the in-app changelog.

The new devices are (glad to see many flagships here):

  • HTC Desire (2.2)
  • HTC Thunderbolt - Verizon
  • HTC Sensation
  • HTC Evo 4G
  • HTC Evo 3D
  • HTC Incredible S
  • HTC Desire HD
  • HTC Flyer
  • LG Revolution - Verizon (2.2)
  • Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY

  • Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro
  • Acer A5

Sense 3.0 ROMs Starting To Pop Up, Fully Functional On The Desire Z/G2 And Desire HD/Inspire 4G

The newest version of Sense UI has been somewhat of a hot topic amongst HTC owners, as HTC itself said that certain aspects of it has been reserved for newer devices only. Naturally, the dev community over at XDA was not about to stand for that, and shortly after the Sensation ROM leak, got to work on spreading the Sense 3.0 love.

Fast-forward to today and what do we have? Sense 3.0 working perfectly on the Desire HD/Inspire 4G and the Desire Z/G2. These ROMs seem to be mashups of a variety of leaked firmware for other devices, but rest assured that they are both Gingerbread, so you won't be downgrading your OS just to upgrade the skin.

European HTC Desire HD And Incredible S Getting Gingerbread... Right Now

A couple of months ago, we told you that the HTC Desire HD and Incredible S would be getting an OTA update to Gingerbread, but we didn't know exactly when this would happen. It looks like the wait is over though, because HTC has started rolling out the official OTA update to European users. Unfortunately, there is no official word when the Desire Z will see an update, but we're still expecting it sometime close to the end of the second quarter.

Now there's only one thing left to do: wait. Drop us a line in comments and let us know when this hits your device.

Pyramid/Sensation Ports Are Starting To Show Up, Desire HD First In Line

Let's go back in time for a moment, shall we? Think with me, if you will, back to when we first told you about the Sensation ROM leak. Do you remember? Ah, the nostalgia. It seems like it was only yesterday that we were trying to get the download mirror set up so all the devs could get to work on porting this ROM to other devices and... Oh, yes. It was just yesterday.

It didn't take long for the first port of this smokin' new ROM to show up, and thanks to XDA member capychimp, the lucky winner of said ROM is the Desire HD.

CyanogenMod 7 RC4 Has Arrived For All Supported CM Devices - Bug Fixes Abound

CyanogenMod 7 has earned its reputation as the most reliable Gingerbread ROM, even though it hasn't yet entered stable mode. And tonight, the fun goes on - RC4 RC3.14159265358979323846264338327, as the CM team so lovingly refers to it, has just been launched for all supported CM devices.

While RC4 doesn't contain any ground-breaking new features, it does bring a number of bug fixes - for example, hardware acceleration has been added to the Nook Color, and EGL has seen a big fix. It isn't perfect yet - kmobs notes that there may be some "lingering GPS issues on the EVO and the N1 call audio bug hasn't been fully fixed" - but it's still worth the update.
