The G'zOne Command is slated to receive a small maintenance update fairly soon, according to the Verizon Support site. C771M130 is definitely not breaking any major ground, promising that the PIN unlock keyboard now displays correctly, improved keyboard accuracy, and a more sensitive proximity sensor.

As always, updated support documents don't indicate that an OTA is actively rolling out, necessarily, but that it's at least close to being released. So, tap away at that "check for updates" button over the coming weeks.

Remember Casio's take on the rugged smartphone, known as the G'zOne Commando? It seems that while everyone else on the planet may have forgotten all about this little guy, Verizon has somehow managed to squeeze another software update out of Casio for this all but forgotten loner.

So, what's the update all about? Just a bunch of random bug fixes and the like, actually:

Speakerphone successfully turns off after a Push to Talk call is completed.

Improved device stability decreases power cycles during a Push to Talk call.

Mobile IM application has been removed from the device.

Desk Cradle application has been updated with the latest bug fixes.

Done With This Post?
Looks like Big Red is on a roll with the OTA updates this week. First the RAZR/MAXX and Droid 4, then the LG Spectrum, and now the Casio G'zOne Commando. If you don't remember, the all but forgotten G'zOne is Casio's rugged offering to the Android world, packing lightweight specs in a heavyweight shell.

The OTA update, which is build number C771M110 for those who like to keep up with that sort of thing, brings a number of enhancements and fixes:

As always, we expect the update to begin rolling out at any time now, but you can check to see if the update is available on your device by going into Settings > About phone > System updates > Check New.

Done With This Post?
When it comes to the checkout lane, we're used to seeing some pretty outdated systems running behind the counter. Most PoS (point-of-sale, guys) systems are still sporting the classic black screen with white boxy text and are both outdated and impractical. Casio thinks that it's time to bring PoS systems out of the stone age, and what better way to do that than with Android?

The new Casio VX-100 is an Android-powered EPoS system that brings with it a whole new way to run the front lines of a retail environment. Since the terminal is running Android, it has access to a slew of useful apps and services, which also makes it infinitely upgradable as finances allow.

Done With This Post?

If your rough-and-rugged style made the Casio G'zOne your perfect Android counterpart, then we have good news for you: Gingerbread is on its way to your little tank-of-a-phone right now.

The updates is rolling out in typical OTA fashion, and brings a few new features and fixes to the device (aside from Gingerbread, of course):

Screen will brighten upon touch when phone is docked during a voice call

Proximity sensor accurately senses presence during a voice call

Auto-signature can be enabled within SMS/MMS messages (but on behalf of everyone in the world, I would like to ask that you don't use this feature.

Done With This Post?

Netflix this evening appears to have quietly unleashed the Android app on 16 more previously unsupported devices, all without updating the application at all.

The whole situation threw us off quite a bit, as the Netflix app description now lists both the new devices and a reference to a new version 1.3, while the app itself is still stuck at 1.2.2.

Nevertheless, after trying to find it in the Market using devices that were previously unsupported (HTC EVO 3D and Thunderbolt), to our pleasant surprise, we succeeded. So... it seems that Netflix indeed simply updated the list in the Market publishing console without updating the app at all, which means it was compatible with all of them all along.

Done With This Post? It is not, for example, Casio's answer to the Galaxy S II or the EVO 3D - it simply doesn't have that much power under its rough, tough hood. But that rough, tough hood is precisely what makes the Commando stand out from the rest of the Android smartphone crowd - unlike your average piece of plastic, it is ready to take on the challenges of an outdoorsman's life (including but not limited to being submerged in water, thrown onto cement, or given the inevitable drop kick from time to time).

Done With This Post?
