Nexus5-Thumb2

Activating a Nexus 5 on T-Mobile is far from a difficult process, but if you missed out on the first wave of Nexus 5s on Google Play, T-Mobile will soon be ready to sell one to you themselves. The company is launching the latest Nexus handset on November 14th online, and they will introduce it in-stores a week later.

Rather than paying $349 for the phone on Google Play, T-Mobile customers can buy it for $41.99 down, followed by 24 monthly payments of $17.

Guys, this is pretty nuts. GameStop is apparently trying to get rid of its remaining 2012 Nexus 7 stock, so it's slashing the price down to a Benjamin till they're all gone. That's a hell of a deal, especially considering KitKat is just around the corner for this device. And it'll probably run better than ever on KK thanks to Project Svelte.

If your local GameStop is already out of stock (they're all running low apparently), we're hearing that Staples will price match, so you should be able to grab it for a hundred spot at either place.

transkeyboard

There are a lot of Bluetooth keyboards aimed at Android tablets, but ASUS' Transformer series of tablets and docks has long been a favorite of those who prefer a full laptop-style form factor. ASUS is trying to bring that same experience (or at least part of it) to a broader range of devices with the TransKeyboard, revealed on the company's YouTube channel late last night.

The TransKeyboard is pretty similar to other mobile keyboards - it's relatively compact and interoperable with Android smartphones/tablets and PCs.

We've received an official statement from Verizon on the ongoing Nexus 7 LTE / Verizon saga, a story that has gone silent in the months since Verizon promised the device was being certified for the network. Today, we've finally been given official word from Big Red on what the problem is, and let me say: you're not going to like it.

According to a Verizon spokesperson, during certification it was discovered that the Nexus 7 had a "systems issue" that presumably would have caused it to fail Verizon's testing.

You might have missed it in the tidal wave of news when the Nexus 5 was released, but Google also posted two new colors of the Nexus 7 zip case in the storefront. They were both listed as 'coming soon,' but now they're live.

The official zip case can now be had in gray, yellow, or black. Note that the gray case is listed as gray/white because the interior is white.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. Reuters reports that the Rockstar consortium, a joint effort between Apple, Microsoft, Sony, and Blackberry, has sued Google and Android manufacturers Samsung, HTC, LG, ASUStek, Huawei, ZTE, and Pantech over patents formerly held by the now-defunct Nortel Networks. Rockstar won the patents in an auction in 2011 that topped out at $4.5 billion - Google lost the same auction with a $4.4 billion bid.

Enchanted by the bright yellow bumper case for the Nexus 5 earlier today (by the way, how great is it that finally a Nexus device at least had proof, on launch day, that accessories were coming?) but not planning on picking up the new phone? Don't worry - Google's expanded the lineup of sleeve cases available for the Nexus 7 (2013, though the 2012 edition will fit too) today, adding a "grey/white" version and a bright yellow version to the mix.

Just a quick note to anyone waiting for full OS factory images and drivers for existing Nexus devices (outside of the Galaxy Nexus, which bit the dust with KitKat) - as is customary, they will follow over-the-air updates released according to Google's favorite timeline: "in the coming weeks."

The Nexus 5 factory images will be out later today, but don't sit there hitting F5 expecting factory images for the Nexus 4, 7 (new and old), or 10 to pop up any time soon.

Android KitKat

Update: Here's an official Google Support answer stating the GNex will indeed be stuck in 4.3-land for eternity.

At the bottom of Google's official Android 4.4 announcement post on the company's blog, some rather pertinent information for current Nexus / GPE device owners is thrown in: OTA update news!

KitKat will be coming to the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (presumably both models, but not explicitly stated), Nexus 10, and the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and HTC One.

The air is almost electric as we get ever nearer to the announcement of Android 4.4 and the Nexus 5. Of course, we don't know exactly when that will be, but tomorrow has been heavily rumored. Perhaps adding more fuel to that fire, Google has updated the Play Store listing for the Nexus 7 with a new interface better suited to selecting among multiple configurations.

Now when clicking the link to the new Nexus 7, you'll get a page with drop-down lists to choose the storage size and connectivity.
