Nexus 7 16GB Drops To $199 At GameStop Online

We've been following the 32GB Nexus 7 meticulously over the past few weeks, and we're pretty sure it's going to be announced soon, possibly alongside a 3G variant of Google's hit 7" tablet. Of course, one of the most significant aspects of the 32GB N7's story is that it's expected to ring in at a $249 price-point, with the 16GB variant dropping down to $199.

We saw some proof of that earlier today at certain Office Depot locations, but now we have one more drop in the bucket – the 16GB Nexus 7 has gotten a price slash on GameStop's website, down to – you guessed it – $199.

3G Nexus 7 Passes Through FCC, Has 3G

French blog Galaxus has uncovered an FCC filing for the "ME370TG" - which pretty much gives this device away as a variant of the Nexus 7, and if you dig into the FCC test results, we can see this confirmed:

As with most FCC filings, there really isn't much to say here - but the ME370TG is set for a certification date of October 29th. Which, as we all know, is the day of Google's big NYC event next week. A 3G Nexus 7 (sorry, no indication of LTE) seems imminent at this point.

The iPad Mini Vs. The Nexus 7: A Showdown Of Miniature Proportions

After seeing Apple launch the iPad Mini today, doubtless, many Android fans were unimpressed. And there are good reasons for that - it wasn't actually that impressive. Not a particularly dazzling display. Fairly old internals. A price tag that, at best, is described as "cheaper than an iPad."

And let's face it, it's really not that attractive as a product, especially by Apple's high standards. It sort of looks like one of the new iPod Touches and an iPhone 5 had a really fat baby.

Regardless, we already know that, barring some sort of unspeakable catastrophe, Apple is going to sell a lot of these things.

The 8GB Nexus 7 Is Out Of Stock On The Play Store - Is It Gone For Good?

If you head over to the Play Store right now, you'll see that the 8GB edition of the Nexus 7 is currently out of stock ("Coming Soon"). While this isn't really news in and of itself, it's been that way the past 12 hours or so, and we already have a strong suspicion that the 8GB N7 won't be with us much longer.

We also know that the 32GB Nexus 7 is coming - probably next week in New York - and that the 16GB version may be poised for a price drop. From day one, many have complained that the 8GB version of the N7 simply lacked sufficient storage (5.6GB usable), and dropping it entirely sort of makes sense at this point, particularly with both the iPad Mini and Kindle Fire HD starting at 16GB.

Internal Staples Document Suggests 8GB Nexus 7 Is Being Discontinued - 16GB Price Drop Imminent?

We just posted some internal photos from Staples showing that the 32GB Nexus 7 is, indeed, making its way into retail stockrooms. And that's exciting. What we didn't show you, though, was one more photo from our intrepid office supply tipster, which contains some rather juicy information regarding the fate of the 8GB version of the Nexus 7. Take a look.

This is exactly what it appears to be: aisle end cap instructions for the upcoming holiday season. Thrilling. But look down to the "Notes" section at the bottom - there's some very intriguing stuff going on.

"Effective 10/30 SKU 949286 (Nexus 7" 8GB) will be clearance." If you're not aware, Staples has been one of the few brick and mortar locations selling the 8GB version of Google's tablet in the US.

The 32GB Nexus 7 Is Already At Staples Stores - Priced At $250? [Pictures]

We already know the 32GB Nexus 7 exists. Some guy actually got one by mistake - in Japan. We've seen it at online stores in the US, online stores in Europe, and even Canada. It is bar-none Google's worst-kept secret ever.

What we have not seen, though, is a 32GB Nexus 7 actually physically in these United States. As of today, we know they're here - at Staples.

So yes, the Nexus 7 32GB is 100% imminent. We're fully expecting it to be announced at Google's October 29th event in New York, along with the Nexus 4, and Android 4.2.

32GB Nexus 7 Shows Up At A Few More Retailers In Europe And In Canada

There's no secret anymore. Hasn't been for a while now. But, just in case you need a little more convincing that the 32GB Nexus 7 is a real thing, it has now made an appearance on two more retailers' websites: Dixons Retail for €199.99 (screenshot below) and Argos for £199.99. It also made a brief cameo at Best Buy Canada for $269, but the page has since been pulled. Good thing we have Google Cache to prove it was there.

These are all on top of the sightings we've already seen at Staples Advantage, Carphone Warehouse, and a few others.

32GB Nexus 7 Shows Up On Staples Advantage For $250

Add another chapter to the Nexus 7 32GB saga. We've seen it once, twice, three times - and now it has showed up on Staples Advantage (their site for business users) with an estimated availability date of October 18th. That's probably just some sort of placeholder, though - it's highly unlikely that we'll see it show up in just two days' time.

The price shows as a few dollars less than the 16GB version, which lines up with previous rumors that the 32 may actually replace the 16 - a questionable move on Google's part, no doubt. Why get rid of the 16 instead of the 8?

Google Posts Additional Android 4.1.2 Nexus Images, Binaries, And The Nexus Q's First Factory Image

Yesterday, Android maintainer JBQ posted up a number of binaries and Android 4.1.2 images for multiple Nexus devices. Owners of international GSM variants of the Galaxy Nexus, though, were left out on the image side. Today, both the "soju" (Nexus S) and "yakju" (Galaxy Nexus GSM) have had their factory images updated to Android 4.1.2, and you can find those images here.

Google also saw fit to finally release a factory image for the Nexus Q, though it's based on Android 4.0.4. A number of driver binaries were added today as well, specifically NFC drivers for the Nexus 7, GSM unlocked Galaxy Nexus (maguro), and both the Sprint and Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

32GB Nexus 7 Registration Page Appears On Carphone Warehouse's Spain Storefront

If you're among the many, many potential Nexus 7 users who think that 8GB (or even 16GB) is a little on the wimpy side for a modern tablet, you may have cause to celebrate soon enough. The Spanish storefront of Phone House (the international arm of UK-based Carphone Warehouse) has a promotional page up for the Google-branded tablet in a 32GB flavor, listing for 279€. My Spanish is a little rusty, but it looks like the typical "sign up for more information" pre-sale page. No date is mentioned.
