Acer just pushed out the official announcement for its newest offering to the tablet world - the Iconia Tab A200. The interesting thing about this tablet, though, is that it's really not much different than the A500. Aesthetically, it does look different, but on the inside, it's nearly the same tablet:

  • 10.1-inch 1280x800 display
  • 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 2MP front-facing camera
  • Full-size USB port, microSD card slot
  • Android 3.2

While the Iconia A200 will initially ship with Honeycomb, Acer has promised that the tablet will be sporting ICS out-of-the-box beginning in January '12.

Skype for Android, an app that gets almost as much love as it does hate, was updated to version 2.5 a few minutes ago. Because the last update unofficially opened up Skype to all 2.2+ devices, this time around Skype simply listed 13 more devices as whitelisted and approved for video chat capabilities:

  1. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (T-Mobile)
  2. HTC SHOOTER (KDDI)
  3. Sony Ericsson Xperia Live with Walkman
  4. Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V
  5. Acer Iconia Tablet (A500)
  6. LG Optimus Black LANDSCAPE ONLY
  7. LG Optimus 3D LANDSCAPE ONLY
  8. LG Optimus 2x LANDSCAPE ONLY
  9. Motorola Photon
  10. Motorola Droid3 LANDSCAPE ONLY
  11. Motorola Bionic LANDSCAPE ONLY
  12. Motorola Xoom
  13. Motorola Atrix

Notice how the list contains 13 devices, even though the changelog says 14.

If a refurb'd Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for $350 isn't your cup of tea, how about a brand-spankin'-new Acer Iconia Tab A500 for $320? If that sounds more like your speed, then Gettington is the place to be right now, and if you throw in the coupon code FREESHIP08 you'll nab your entire order sans-shipping.

There is one small issue, however -- the expected ship date isn't until October 21.

We were all left with a bad taste in our mouths after hearing AT&T's pricing for the recently announced HTC Jetstream, but if you're looking for a  solid Honeycomb tablet with always-connected mobile access then check out Ma Bell's latest offering: the Acer Iconia Tab A501.

Under the hood, it's the exact same device as the A500, with the inclusion of an HSPA+ radio. The nuts and bolts of it are:

  • 10.1-inch 1280x800 display
  • 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 5MP and 2MP cameras
  • SD card, microUSB, and microHDMI ports
  • Android 3.2

The real sweet spot for this tablet, though, is the pricing.

If you've been holding out on that Acer Iconia A100 purchase for the price to lower a little more, now might be your chance to pick up a pretty sweet deal from Walmart. Effective from Sunday, August 14th through to Saturday, August 20th, you can grab the tablet for just $328 and get a $50 gift card for free while you're at it. For the mathematically lazy, that effectively makes the price just $278.

The price of the Acer Iconia A500 has been steadily declining over the past few months and it looks like Target is offering their best deal yet for this Android 3.0 tablet. Starting from August 14th you can pick up the Iconia A500 for $399 and get a $100 Target Gift Card free, effectively making the price $299.

Update: Best Buy has a similar deal going, it seems. Rumor is, so does Walmar.

The Acer Iconia A500 10.1 inch Honeycomb tablet has been quite a success thanks to its competitive specs and low price tag. Now its little brother, the 7 inch Iconia A100 is available in North America for those who want all the power of Honeycomb in a more pocket-sized shell.

The Iconia A100 features all the guts of its bigger rivals, including a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, 1GB RAM, 5MP rear shooter and 2MP in the front, all powered by Android 3.2, which has been optimized to run on 7 inch, 1024x600 displays.

Well it's about bloody time! The last we heard, Acer's Iconia Tab A100 - the little sibling of the larger, 10-inch A500 - was being delayed due to Honeycomb restrictions on 7-inch displays.  Fortunately, though, it seems that all of those issues are now firmly in the past for Acer, as Engadget is reporting that the company is readying its tablet for an early August launch, with a suggested retail price of $300.

Over the past few weeks and months the price of the Acer Iconia A500 has been steadily dropping. It is now clear that it was to make way for the 4G version of the tablet from AT&T.

Announced in late March by AT&T for a Q2 release, it looks like they have finally got their act together and are now featuring the device on Amazon.com on pre-order for $499.99.

  • 1Ghz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB storage, MicroSD card slot
