Yesterday, we saw a leaked image of an HTC phone said to be internally called the "Proto." Thanks to an eagle-eyed reader, it was brought to our attention that this isn't a new device at all; it's a slightly more powerful version of the Desire V that's already been released in international markets.
Left: Proto leak; Right: Desire V (from HTC.com)
The only difference between the two? The Proto is said to sport a 1GHz dual-core processor, whereas the Desire V has a 1GHz single-core chip. Read More
After disappearing from T-Mobile's own website and appearing as backordered on others, a matter we posted on just a bit earlier today, we've heard from a very reliable industry source that T-Mobile is putting the Galaxy Note on "EOL" (end of life). We have every reason to believe this person (though they spoke on condition of anonymity), and today's events make it pretty obvious that's what's going on. The EOL date is estimated around November 1st, though that remains subject to change based on how quickly T-Mobile's remaining inventory is depleted. Read More
Update: HTC has officially denied the veracity of this rumor, and stated that it has no plans to discontinue use of Beats Audio in its handsets.
Original Article: I don't like Beats. You probably don't like Beats. In fact, it's really, really easy to not like Beats. According to news site MyDrivers.com, HTC might not like Beats anymore, either.
After ditching bundled Beats earbuds in April, and then selling 50% of its stake in the headphone and, uh, sound enhancement company, industry sources (yeah, yeah, we know how that goes) are saying that HTC is going to drop Beats Audio from its handset lineup entirely. Read More
I bet you never thought you'd read so many rumors about gift cards! Well, if our latest tipster's info is accurate, you won't be hearing them much longer. According to an internal image sent to us, the gift cards should be ready to hit store shelves on August 26th. The leak comes from internal systems at Target which, a certain eagle-eyed commenter has pointed out, would not be the first time we've seen a leak from this company. Read More
Update 4: OnLive has finally issued the following statement:
We can now confirm that the assets of OnLive, Inc. have been acquired into a newly-formed company and is backed by substantial funding, and which will continue to operate the OnLive Game and Desktop services, as well as support all of OnLive's apps and devices, as well as game, productivity and enterprise partnerships. The new company is hiring a large percentage of OnLive, Inc.'s staff across all departments and plans to continue to hire substantially more people, including additional OnLive employees.
Update: Unfortunately, neither ASUS nor NVIDIA had anything of value to say about this device:
Officially, no comment on unannounced products.
First I have heard of it, especially since the next tablets up on the roadmap are Windows based.
As many readers have already pointed out in the comments, perhaps this will be a Windows RT tablet. Time will tell.
This is a curious one; a mysterious ASUS tablet has shown up out of the blue at the FCC today, with the model name 'TF500T'. Read More
We've received some interesting information from an insider at Carphone Warehouse suggesting that a black version of Samsung's Galaxy S III is in the works, and we're inclined to trust it. Here's our evidence, from the company's internal product database:
If you recall, way back when the Galaxy S III was but a rumor-laden twinkle in our collective eyes, GSMArena received a similar leak from inside Carphone Warehouse confirming the white and blue colors the phone was launched in. Read More
A leaked image of an upcoming device for T-Mobile, dubbed the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze Q (a name that violates no less than three commandments) just surfaced over at TmoNews. As its [awful] name suggests, this appears to be a QWERTY-fied version of the Galaxy S Blaze, though the rumored specs actually point to a bit of an upgrade in the display department, as well:
- 720p display (size not mentioned)
- 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB storage
- HSPA+ 42
- Slide-out QWERTY
- Android 4.0
By comparison, the Blaze 4G packs similar specs (sans keyboard), but with a meager 480x800 display and slower Snapdragon S3 (as opposed to the S4 in the Blaze Q). Read More
HTC Rezound owners may have a reason to get excited in the very, very near future. According to a leaked document, the Rezound may be seeing an update to Ice Cream Sandwich starting as soon as tomorrow, July 29th. The document says the OTA update should be about 292MB, so be sure to have your WiFi handy before you download.
As we mentioned before, there is a decent chance that the tip was fabricated.
