Gamefactory Gameloft is back with another new game, and this time it's a papercraft game in which you nurture, build, and develop a kingdom of adorable little monsters. It's a game that falls solidly within the genre of casual, and with variations of the word "cute" twice in the first two sentences of the description, it's probably not a game for everyone.

Despite the light-hearted nature of the game, it certainly looks like it offers a surprising amount of depth and impressive amount of fun.

The long-awaited undead makeover to Glu Mobile's insanely popular first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, just landed in the Play Store. Fantastic, right? Yep! If you have a Sony Xperia Play, S, or Ion.

That's right - Glu decided to give select Xperia devices a first go at Black Ops Zombies. The rest of us won't get our hands on this living-dead action shoot-em-up for another month.

face unlock

If you're serious about security on your Android phone or tablet, you probably know that the Face Unlock feature introduced in Ice Cream Sandwich is a long way from secure. While Google didn't make any claims to the contrary, it looks like the extra "Liveness check" (which requires the user to blink after the initial scan) is almost as susceptible. A group of YouTube users demonstrated how to get past the check with a photo taken off of Facebook and just a few minutes of Photoshopping.

Just yesterday, Samsung started sending out invites to its second Unpacked 2012 event at IFA in Berlin, where we believe the company will unveil the successor to the Galaxy Note. Just now, a second invitation just hit our inbox for the previously announced Galaxy event on August 15th.

Giving credit to previous speculation, the flyer heavily suggests that we'll see the long-awaited Galaxy Note 10.1, along with the tagline "Meet the new way."

An official announcement is the last piece needed to complete the puzzle that has been the Galaxy Note 10.1.

Today, MetroPCS announced yet another addition to its stable of prepaid Android smartphones. One of the pricier off-contract handsets, the device retails for $459. So, what do you get for a significant portion of your rent for the month? Well, for a Metro PCS phone, it's actually a pretty decent spec list:

  • 4.3" Super AMOLED display
  • 1Ghz processor
  • 8MP rear-facing camera w/ flash
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • LTE
  • 32GB of "external memory"*

*Note: It's a little unclear what they mean by "32GB of external memory." The device's spec page also lists a 16GB memory card, so it may be that the device has an SD card slot that supports up  to 32GB, but only includes a 16GB card.

Just about everyone who has played a PC game in the past dozen years has probably heard of (and possibly used) GameSpy. The service, formerly owned by IGN, has been a major player in the social/multiplayer gaming space, offering matchmaking, stats, profiles, leaderboards, and cloud syncing. And now, freemium game maker Glu Mobile has acquired the service for an unnamed price.

Glu hopes that the acquisition can beef up their multiplayer support:

“Our acquisition of GameSpy brings Glu industry-recognized leadership in online, cross-platform technology infrastructure,” said Niccolo de Masi, Chief Executive Officer of Glu.

Well, this is...odd. To say the least. Tonight, Negri Electronics, which is a well-respected and reputable dealer in consumer electronics, tweeted the picture of a partially-unboxed Galaxy Note 10.1, claiming that the device "Ships 8/3", and included the hashtag "#beforefirst." It's a little unclear what "#beforefirst" means. Maybe Negri gets to ship the product before everyone else? Or is it that pre-orders are starting? You can pre-order on Negri's site right now, so maybe that's it.

Chameleon Launcher, a highly anticipated launcher replacement for Android tablets, has just released the initial beta version of the app into the Play Store. While everyone with a compatible device can download it, you will need to have an invitation, whether from your Kickstarter pre-order or pre-registration (say, if you're a member of the press or a private beta tester).

If you think you're part of the private beta, head over here (replace YOUR_EMAIL with your pre-reg email address and YOUR_NAME with your name) and associate your registration email with your Play Store account, then grab the app from the Play Store and fire it up.

Quick. Name the top three most time-consuming video games you can. Did you say RPGs, sims and "anything that even remotely looks like Farmville"? Well, one, Farmville already is kind of a sim so that doesn't really count and two, yes! Now, what happens if you mix all of these together into one big, colorful Japanese game? You get Kairobotica.

Part of the game takes place in a sim space colony where you build shops, tech, and bolster your forces for missions.
