IDC: Android Now Accounts For 84.7% Of All Smartphone Shipments, Grew 33.3% Year-Over-Year This Quarter

The latest IDC numbers for smartphone shipments are out, and once again it looks like Android just keeps on moving up. Year over year, Android has gained around 5% in overall market share by number of phones shipped, jumping to 84.7% of all smartphone shipments for Q2 2014. Total Android phone shipments for Q2 rose 33.3% year over year, at 191.5 million units.

Meanwhile, Apple's iOS slipped further back while maintaining its second place spot at 11.7% of shipments (down from 13.2% last year), while Microsoft's Windows Phone fell to 2.5% compared to 3.7% a year ago.

Latest OnePlus One XNPH30O OTA Update Might Ruin Your Battery Life, But Fixes Are On The Way

If you've received the OnePlus One XNPH30O OTA update, you might have noticed your battery life was severely reduced since installing it. You're not the only one - the CyanogenMod issue tracker for the One has a thread with well over 100 comments on the subject at this point.

CM seems to have nailed down the issue to problems with the power management and the proximity sensor. The former issue has been fixed and will be likely live in nightly builds starting today, and an OTA is being rushed through for those only using stable builds.

Google knows using YouTube on a TV could be better, so the company has started to push out an updated version that fits in more with the company's latest sense of style (Android TV, anyone?) and, more importantly, makes content easier to access.

YouTube looks great on a TV, but it's not as easy to browse as other media services such as Netflix and Hulu, where users can just shift through movie titles and the latest shows without having to go through all that much effort.

HTC Zoe App Expands To Non-HTC Devices So You Can Make And Share Pretty Videos [APK Download]

Version 1.1 Of Dropbox's Mailbox App Learns How To Handle Spam And Put Annoying Messages In Their Place

The ability to mark unwanted email as spam and check the junk folder for potentially mislabeled messages is a core feature for any email client, but until now, Dropbox's stylish Mailbox app has lacked it. With version 1.1, that changes. The app now places the spam folder inside the sidebar with its other pre-existing categories, and tucked away inside each email's menu we now find the new option to "mark as spam."

IOC's Olympic TV App Is Just In Time For The 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games In China, Available Everywhere... Except China

Well this is amusing. The International Olympic Committee has released an Android app into the Play Store that is arriving just in time to stream video from this year's Summer Youth Olympic Games, which will take place in Nanjing, China. Ironically, though, China is the one place where Olympic TV is explicitly labeled not to work. It's written in plain sight on the app's Play Store page.

The event will take place this year from August 16th to the 28th and provide teenagers with a venue to compete in all manner of athletic games.

[Update: Rolling Out] Sprint Begins Moto X Soak Test, Presumably For Android 4.4.4

Update: Good news! Looks like the 4.4.4 soak test is now underway on Sprint. If you're part of the Motorola Feedback Network, you maybe might possibly have access to it now. Hopefully everything runs smoothly so the full update will go out to all users soon.
