Lollipop Upgrades Coming To Android One Phones In India 'In The Next Few Weeks,' According To Google

Indian readers, if you picked up a budget-friendly Android One device when the new line launched last year, you're probably wondering where your !@#$ing Lollipop upgrade is. After all, Google promised speedy upgrades when they launched the phones with help of local manufacturers Spice, Karbonn, and Micromax. According to this Google+ message, those phones will be upgraded to Lollipop "in the next few weeks." Unfortunately Google's Indian branch wasn't any more specific than that.

The Next Android Revision Is Indeed 'Android 5.1 Lollipop', Shipping On Android One Phones, Coming To Nexus Devices

A few hours ago, we spotted no less than five mentions of "Android 5.1" on Google's Indonesian Android One page. Considering that 5.1 is quite a jump from 5.0.2, and something like 5.0.3 seemed more likely as the next bug fixer, we were cautious to suggest it may have been a mistake or a very persistent typo.

But as it turns out, Android 5.1 is real, and it's indeed shipping on Android One phones in Indonesia.

Here, take a look:

As it's still very early, we don't yet have a changelog for this update, but it should arrive soon enough.

[Updated] Google Is Preparing To Launch Android One In Indonesia And Seems Mighty Sure It Will Come With Android 5.1 Lollipop

Google's Android One program is the company's play to capture the billions of potential users who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a smartphone. The initiative is running a little behind based on Google's previously announced timeline, but the Indonesian launch is coming later this month. Indonesia is a huge country, so the Android One rollout would be big news all on its own, but according to Google's official Android One site, the Indonesian One devices will have Android 5.1 included. ARM Announces New Designs For CPUs, GPUs, And More

Odds are good that any Android devices you have around are running on ARM technology. The ARM architecture powers virtually all systems-on-a-chip (SoCs), with Intel x86 parts coming in a distant second. ARM doesn't actually make the chips, but it creates the reference designs and instruction set, then licenses the IP. Today the company is announcing some new designs and process refinements for other companies to license.

ADT-1 Gets Updated To Android 5.0.2 (LRX22G), OTA ZIP Available Now

If you went to Google I/O 2014, you probably treasure the ADT-1, the first Android TV set-top box that was never made available for retail purchase. It's also the first Android TV device to be updated to version 5.0.2... out of an admittedly limited field at the moment. LRX22G contains a few small changes to the core of the system for a few easy performance improvements, but nothing dramatic, so don't sweat it if you aren't part of the initial OTA rollout.

If you just can't wait, here's the OTA ZIP file - you'll need an unmodified ADT-1 and a PC to flash the file with via the ADB interface.

Google Search's New Mortgage Calculator Can Help You Plan Beyond The Down Payment

The information you get from Google searches isn't always as reliable as it sounds, but when it comes to simple math, you can bet the search engine is giving you more accurate information. Now Google is turning things up a notch by tossing a calculator widget into your search results to help plan out your mortgage and other loans.

To get the loan widget to appear, search for terms along the lines of "interest," "loan," or "mortgage" calculator. The resulting widget lets you key in a total amount, an interest rate, and a length of time. Google will then give you the total cost you can expect to pay when everything is said and done. The widget works on desktops and mobile devices alike.

Verizon Wireless Website Shows The Nexus 6 As 'Coming Soon,' Still No Word On A Release Date

It's been four months since the Nexus 6 went on sale in the US Google Play Store, complete with radio support for all five major US carriers. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular all sell the phone in one fashion or another, but Verizon has been interestingly silent on a subsidized carrier release. (Verizon Wireless doesn't play well with others.) But according to the latest promotional image on Verizon's website, it might be coming soon.

Droid-Life spotted the advertisement below earlier today. It's pretty self-explanatory, but all you can do at the moment is sign up for Verizon's promotional email.
