Russia's Anti-Monopoly Agency Says Google Must Alter Its Contracts With Russian Carriers Or Face Fine Equal To 15% Of 2014 Revenue

Acting on a complaint by Russian search giant Yandex, Russia's antitrust authority has ruled that Google's policy forbidding the pre-installation of competing search providers on GMS-enabled devices is illegal in the country. Yandex, who dominates the huge Russian market on the desktop, has been hemorrhaging market share in mobile to Google. Their complaint is that Google cannot have a rule requiring Google be the default (and only) search engine on devices that ship with the Play Store.

[Update: Same In Final 6.0] System UI Tuner Is Alive And Well In Android 6.0 Preview 3, But There's A New Way To Activate It

Initially, upon flashing the third developer preview of Android 6.0, we thought our beloved System UI Tuner had gone the way of the dodo. Not so - it's still here, it's just a little less obvious how to get it. If you flashed the latest developer preview and didn't wipe your user data (or received it via OTA), you probably didn't even notice anything changed aside from a little gear icon in your settings shortcut in the quick toggle area, and that little icon is key - press and hold it to activate (or deactivate) the system UI tuner, which will then appear at the bottom of the settings app.

[Deal Alert] Grab The Nexus Player For $50 From Best Buy Or Adorama (50% Off)

The Nexus Player was never really the best set-top box, and thanks to the NVIDIA SHIELD, it's not the best thing running Android TV either. Fortunately you can get one for cheap. Best Buy is selling the thing for half of what you would pay on the Google Store. Yup, only $50.

Verizon, In Startling Moment Of Clarity, Cancels The Pointless Sony Xperia Z4v

Remember the Verizon Z4v? Me neither [almost]! I even wrote an article about this phone like 2 weeks ago and I still barely remember it. If you want a refresher: the Z4v was basically a Verizon-ified version of the Xperia Z4. Which launched way back in April. There's also that whole "the Z5 now exists" thing, which makes releasing a new Z4 variant kind of pointless and generally a bit silly.

Verizon, in what can only be called a mildly astonishing moment of self-realization and pragmatism, has therefore decided to cancel the phone. Take it away, Albert:

Verizon will no longer be launching Xperia Z4v, however we are committed to supporting Sony Mobile’s product portfolio and will support existing products.

Humble Mobile Bundle Eye Candy Offers Deep Under The Sky, Botanicula, Dark Echo, Fearless Fantasy, And Other Pretty Games

For people looking to gorge themselves on ad-free mobile gaming, offerings don't get much better than those we get from Humble Bundle. Every couple of weeks the organization hands out at least six games that you can tote around in your phone or tablet. All you have to do is pick a price that's over a dollar to walk away with at least three games. Beating the average will get you three more, with others set to appear one week from now.

The Humble Mobile Bundle Eye Candy, as this week's collection is called, offers a set of visually pleasing titles. This bundle includes Deep Under the Sky, Botanicula, and Haunt the House: Terrortown for those who pay over a dollar but less than the average.

Googlers Nat And Lo Explore The History Of Android's Easter Eggs In A New Video

Have you seen the Nat And Lo video series from Google employees Natalie Hammel and Lorraine Yurshansky? It's an interesting collection of shorts that explore some of the lesser-known projects going on inside the company - the pair use Google's famous "20% time" allocation to produce and release them on their YouTube channel. They actually broke the news of the new Android Marshmallow name by documenting the "making of" the official statue, and now they're back to explore the history of Android's Easter eggs.

Dedicated Android users (and Android Police readers) are no doubt already familiar with these - they're the little goodies and games you get for diving into the Settings menu and clicking on the Android version number.

Asus Releases A Custom Watch Face Designer App For Its ZenWatch Devices

One of the best things about smartwatches is that they finally give the fashion-inclined the ability to switch out watch faces without buying another $300 bit of wrist jewelry. There have been attempts to create systems whereby end users could easily create their own digital watch faces ever since the original Pebble, with varrying degrees of success. Now Asus, which has already released dozens of custom watch faces for its ZenWatch and ZenWatch 2 customers, has created its own custom watch face maker app.
