CyanogenMod Merges Voice Plus, Allows 3rd-Party SMS Apps To Send Messages Through Google Voice

Longtime Google Voice users have had but one dream, total integration with the operating system. We've seen a few bits and pieces roll out from time to time, like support for automatic calling through your Google Voice number and having voicemail directly accessible in the stock dialer. But one feature continues to evade us: sending and receiving SMS messages through Voice with 3rd-party apps. CyanogenMod and Koushik Dutta (Koush) have officially broken that barrier with Voice Plus.

Hands-On With SCR Screen Recorder, The Only Screencasting Tool For Android That's Compatible With Tegra Devices

Since the dawn of time, owners of Tegra devices have wanted a way to natively capture video of what's happening on their screen. Unfortunately, none of the existing apps (including Screencast) were able to accomplish this goal – until now.

Say hello to the [somewhat] recently-released SCR Screen Recorder, an app that not only promises to capture screencasts of Tegra devices, but delivers on that promise beautifully. To put the app to the test, I not only gave it a run on my Nexus 7, but broke the Galaxy Tab 10.1 out of the vault to ensure Tegra 2 compatibility.

Bitcasa Android App Updated To Version 2 With New UI, Recent Files, Pull To Refresh, And More

Bitcasa has had a hard time of it since launching on Android seven months ago. Thanks to a buggy app for its unlimited storage service, it's currently sitting at a 3.5-star rating in the Google Play Store - not good when you're up against juggernauts like Dropbox and Google Drive. Hopefully the completely revamped 2.0 update will fix that. In addition to the seemingly ubiquitous UI overhaul, stability and performance improvements are mentioned in the changelog.

Rockchip Electronics Unveils Multi-Window Android Multitasking That Could Actually Be Useful

So you have that beautiful quad-core processor, but aside from games, what do you really use it for? Rockchip's newly unveiled upgrade to its Android multi-window system enables the windowed use of apps on Android tablets. Users can theoretically browse the web, stream a YouTube video, toggle system settings, and chat with friends without the hassle of hopping back and forth between full-screen applications. While we've seen windowed Android apps before, most notably on Samsung devices, only a few apps were supported, limiting the functionality's usefulness.

What The Hell Is Cyngn.com, And Why Is It Counting Down To August 19th, 2013?

A strange new presence has made its way onto the Internet. It's a website, innocuous as it is mysterious, with a stylized version of a binary clock counting down: cyngn.com. Just in case you're a bit rusty on your CompSci, the numbers are counting down to August 19th of this year, as testified by the site's source code.

countdown

Here's the code in question:

var theFinalCountDown = new Countdown({ year : 2013, month : 8, day : 19, width : 800, height : 200, rangeHi : "month", style : "flip" });

Of course, any web sleuth worth his digital fedora knows what to do when presented with this sort of mystery: check the Whois file.

We have less than half a day left before the big Verizon triple-threat reveal of the new 2013 DROID family in New York City and San Francisco. The DROID Mini, DROID Ultra, and DROID MAXX should be worthy follow-ups to last year's DROID RAZR M, DROID RAZR HD, and DROID RAZR MAXX HD. In this post, I'm not going to talk about processor specs, RAM, or internal storage. Instead, I wanted to provide reliable information about these phones' batteries, along with the confirmations of wireless charging support built right into them.

Belkin's WeMo App For Android Exits Beta, Now Available On Android 4.0+ Devices

Back in mid-February, Belkin released and early beta build of its WeMo for Android app. It was very light on features at the time (and only available for the Galaxy S III), but has been receiving updates ever since to get it up to snuff with the experience Belkin was looking for.
