I've never been a huge fan of racing games, but there's always been something about Hydro Thunder that captivated me. As a teen, it was one of my favorite games, and I've kept up with the franchise as much as possible over the last several years. Naturally, this means I've spent a more-than-ample amount of time playing Riptide GP, the mobile-equivalent to Hydro Thunder.

The first Riptide was one of my favorite games to emerge from the Tegra 2 era, and Vector Unit maintained fantastic support over the past two years, even updating it to support enhanced graphics on the Tegra 3 chip.

We've known for a while what Verizon was going to announce today, but the company just made it's new Holy Trinity of Motorola Droids official: the Droid Ultra, Droid MAXX, and Droid Mini. As expected, all three are successors to last year's Droid M, RAZR HD, and RAZR MAXX. While the Mini is basically in a league of its own, the Ultra and MAXX are kindred spirits, essentially only being separated by battery capacity and thickness.

Just as expected, Verizon revealed its new family of DROIDs today, courtesy of Motorola. The smallest is (naturally) the DROID MINI, entry-level counterpart to the big daddy Ultra and MAXX, and ostensible sequel to the excellent DROID RAZR M. The phone uses the same Kevlar-wrapped style as the larger phones, with the naturally updated hardware that you'd expect. It launches on August 20th for $99 on-contract, and pre-orders will be live today.

So, the folks at Canonical have been talking up their Ubuntu smartphone platform for a little over six months. Today they revealed their ultimate plan to revolutionize the smartphone world, a fantastic Death Star of a concept device: the Ubuntu Edge. It's a beautiful slab of metal that features some of the most outlandish mobile hardware ever seen, it runs Ubuntu for smartphones, doubles as a dockable ARM-powered desktop, and dual-boots Android.

Spacetime Games, formerly Spacetime Studios, really understands this whole portable MMO thing. They've released such wildly popular and critically acclaimed RPGs as Pocket Legends, Star Legends, and Arcane Legends. Their next game, Battle Dragons, shakes this trend up, and I'm not just talking about its name.

Battle2 Battle3 Battle4

Battle1

Battle Dragons is an online top-down strategy game where you build an army of dragons. Your army then does what massive fire-breathing reptiles do best - raze enemy structures and the forces that guard them.

Longtime Google Voice users have had but one dream, total integration with the operating system. We've seen a few bits and pieces roll out from time to time, like support for automatic calling through your Google Voice number and having voicemail directly accessible in the stock dialer. But one feature continues to evade us: sending and receiving SMS messages through Voice with 3rd-party apps. CyanogenMod and Koushik Dutta (Koush) have officially broken that barrier with Voice Plus.

Since the dawn of time, owners of Tegra devices have wanted a way to natively capture video of what's happening on their screen. Unfortunately, none of the existing apps (including Screencast) were able to accomplish this goal – until now.

Say hello to the [somewhat] recently-released SCR Screen Recorder, an app that not only promises to capture screencasts of Tegra devices, but delivers on that promise beautifully. To put the app to the test, I not only gave it a run on my Nexus 7, but broke the Galaxy Tab 10.1 out of the vault to ensure Tegra 2 compatibility.

You can make almost anything in Minecraft, even people. If you want to design a new block-based being while on the go, there's the new Minecraft Skin Studio for Android. This app allows you to build a person pixel by pixel and upload it to your Minecraft game.

Minecraft Skin Studio isn't made by Mojang, the company behind Minecraft, However, it has talked up this app quite a bit, and it seems to be the premiere way to design Minecraft skins.

Bitcasa has had a hard time of it since launching on Android seven months ago. Thanks to a buggy app for its unlimited storage service, it's currently sitting at a 3.5-star rating in the Google Play Store - not good when you're up against juggernauts like Dropbox and Google Drive. Hopefully the completely revamped 2.0 update will fix that. In addition to the seemingly ubiquitous UI overhaul, stability and performance improvements are mentioned in the changelog.

So you have that beautiful quad-core processor, but aside from games, what do you really use it for? Rockchip's newly unveiled upgrade to its Android multi-window system enables the windowed use of apps on Android tablets. Users can theoretically browse the web, stream a YouTube video, toggle system settings, and chat with friends without the hassle of hopping back and forth between full-screen applications. While we've seen windowed Android apps before, most notably on Samsung devices, only a few apps were supported, limiting the functionality's usefulness.
