[April Fools] The Chromecast Is Perfect For Squirrels, May Contain Nuts

Google is really heavy on the joke content this year. There's the Photobombing, Pokémon Maps, Signature Apps, and now Chromecast for Squirrels. What? Small mammals have video they want to watch on bigger screens too.

The video really drives the point home that Chromecast is all about squirrel empowerment and choice. No longer will squirrels have to watch human video content, because now there's Chromecast. As for the paw-friendly app situation, Google is working on that.

[Happy Birthday] Gmail Is 10 Years Old Today, Here's A Look At How It All Started

It's hard to believe that it's been a decade since Google first introduced Gmail beta to the world – a task that, at the time, the team behind the product had no clue would fundamentally change how we use email. According to an excellent piece on Time, however, Gmail is really a product that almost wasn't. There were times when the company questioned whether or not to release the product to consumers at all.

Samsung Announces The Galaxy Tab 4 Line In 7, 8, and 10.1-inch Varieties, All Packing KitKat And Mediocre Specs

With the introduction of the Galaxy TabPRO series earlier this year, you might expect the older Galaxy Tab line to continue to occupy the lower end of the market. And you'd be right: the Galaxy Tab 4 (or, stylized, Tab4) devices roughly follow in the footsteps of the Tab 3 hardware with 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch varieties. And yes, they still have physical navigation buttons.

[New Game] Widget RPG Is A Tiny One-Button Role Playing Game That Hangs Out On Your Homescreen

Some of the more cynical game reviewers out there (looking at you, Croshaw) have described the standard RPG as a game where you ultimately push buttons to make the numbers go higher. As dismissive as that position is, we've found a game where it's literally true. Widget RPG is a full role-playing game, complete with non-player characters, equipment inventory, and a battle system. But the only way of interacting with the world around your character is by tapping on a homescreen widget like a maniac.

You know what trend in mobile is easy to make fun of? Wearables, of course. Most smart watches almost make fun of themselves. Samsung came up with the Samsung Fingers smart glove, but HTC has just pseudo-announced the HTC Gluuv. Same basic joke, different execution.

A few days ago, it was confirmed that Google had started asking manufacturers to brand boot animations with a specific "Powered by Android" lockup as part of Google's Mobile Services license.
