Google says the Allo desktop client is coming in a "few more weeks"

Allo is actually a really nice application, but there are simply too many missing features for me to use it in any meaningful capacity. One of those missing features is a desktop client, which was first revealed by Nick Fox (Google VP of Communications) in February. In May, he tweeted that the web client was still "a month or two from public release." It's been about a month and a half since that statement, but the Allo desktop client is still a ways off.

Google confirms speed limits on Google Maps only available in two areas

For years, Google Maps didn't support speed limits at all, a massively helpful feature on any navigation software. This finally changed last year, when the speed limit began to appear on Maps for Android Auto (and later the phone app). But it hasn't been available everywhere, and now Google has finally confirmed which areas have the feature.

[Re-review] Last year's Nextbit Robin is an entirely different (and better) phone at $130

How little can you spend on a phone in 2017 and still have a good experience? Companies like Lenovo-owned Motorola and BLU are pushing the envelope when it comes to the budget segment in the US. But, even a dated flagship can outcompete almost everything in the current entry-level market, and right now you can pick up one of 2016's most overlooked examples, the Nextbit Robin, for around $130 from Amazon. We think that deserves a second look.

Essential misses its promised 30-day shipping period for the Essential phone

Android co-founder Andy Rubin finally revealed the Essential phone at the end of May, after months of rumors and teasers. The main selling point is the near-bezeless display, but it also has all the other features you would expect from a 2017 flagship. There's a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, and a 3,040mAh battery. It also supports modular accessories (much like Moto Mods), starting with a tiny 360-degree camera.

When the phone was unveiled, Andy Rubin stated that the phone would ship within 30 days.

Latest T-Mobile Galaxy S8 and S8+ update allows nav bar to be hidden, loses black fill option

One of the Galaxy S8's highlights is its extremely long 18.5:9 AMOLED display. It allows for more content while reading, as well as easier multitasking. However, the software keys on the bottom can cannibalize a bit of that screen real estate. Samsung's solution? Add a little button on the side of the screen that allows users to hide them at the touch of a button. Unfortunately, this feature addition also takes something that I never thought of as a feature: the black nav bar.

New Chromecast Ultra firmware update adds "video smoothness" feature, turns it on by default

Resolution is important on displays, but for now, there's not really much point obsessing about it given that most consumer TVs and many monitors now have 4K screens onboard. However, frame rate is just as crucial, if not more so; I'd much rather have a slightly lower-res stream with a more stable fps count. Google seems to have had the same thought process, given its latest "video smoothness" feature addition to the 4K-capable Chromecast Ultra with firmware version 90308.

[Deal Alert] Unlocked T-Mobile LG G5 (H830T) is $224.99 on eBay

The LG G5 wasn't quite the success LG hoped it would be. The phone's modular functionality, the primary selling point, never really took off. It didn't help that the phone was fairly expensive when it launched, hovering around $600-700 in the United States. The T-Mobile G5 (H830T) is now just $224.99 on eBay, which is $30-80 off what other stores are charging for the unlocked US model.
