FolderSync 2.9 update adds fingerprint sensor support and Marshmallow runtime permissions

FolderSync is a super powerful Android tool that has been around the block for several years and has been growing stronger with each update. Its main job is to synchronize folders between your phone and different cloud storage providers like Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, OneDrive, Amazon Cloud Drive, and more.

The most recent update to the app to version 2.9.0 added a couple of features that keep it updated with the latest Marshmallow APIs.

TWRP adds support for 8 Huawei devices: P9 and P9 Plus, Mate 8, Honor 4X, Honor 5C, Honor 6 and 6 Plus, and Mediapad M2 8.0

Huawei's recent fleet of devices is very interesting thanks to a high value and specs for money ratio. The one thing the company does though that we don't really like in our own niche of Android lovers is its Emotion UI and all the weird choices of design and features that it bundles in it. That can all be solved with a custom ROM and the first step to those ROMs is through installing a custom recovery such as TWRP.

The TWRP team is celebrating July 4 by giving your Huawei device its own independence, that is if it's one of these 8 models.

Weekend poll: what do you think of the Android 'Nougat' codename?

The mystery and intrigue are over: after the usual post-I/O buildup, and even a first-ever user submission process, Google has made the name of Android N public. If you've been under a rock all week, the dessert of the year is "Nougat," which will be used to refer to Android 7.0 (and possibly one or two more iterative version bumps, a la Jelly Bean).

LEGO City My City 2 mixes elements from Sim City and sandbox games for kid-friendly fun

LEGO has gained a well-earned reputation for releasing solid mobile games that eschew the usual advertising and in-app purchases, making them great choices for kids. (Okay, technically every LEGO game is an advertisement for those super-expensive toys, but there are worse ways to advertise to children.) LEGO City My City 2 - that's My City 2, using the long-running My City toy line brand, if you're wondering - is one of the company's most elaborate mobile games to date.

Synology DS Audio app updated with Android Auto support

Slowly but surely, the wider Android community is adopting support for Android Auto. Well, maybe support is too strong a word. They definitely don't object to it. And most of them have probably heard about it. They've certainly skimmed over a bit of text mentioning Android Auto in the latest SDK. Maybe. Alright, so Android Auto support isn't quite as robust as it might be, but Synology's NAS music app works with it now! That's nice.

Nickelodeon releases a new app for Android TV, cable login required

Most of our readership is more likely to sit down and watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones instead of whatever season Spongebob they're up to these days, but we are aware that some of you have children. (There are even a few running around the disparate home offices of Android Police, if you can believe it.) And those tiny customers are the ones served by the latest major media player to hit Android TV, Nickelodeon.

Audible app update adds shareable audio clips, reorganized channels, and bug fixes

Amazon's official audiobook outlet is getting a few tweaks after its latest update. The most notable is Clips, a new feature that allows users to easily create and share bite-sized portion of an audiobook narration from within the app. Here, let me show you a Clip from one of the Harry Dresden novels in my Audible library (feel free to critique my taste in the comments).

Google offers 4 month free trial of Play Music Unlimited and YouTube Red for new subscribers

It's hard to justify an ongoing subscription for content that, for the most part, is already free with advertising. In the hope of convincing a few more people to pony up for the premium tiers of its digital media services, Google is offering a sweet deal to new subscribers: four months of free, no-strings-attached access to both Google Play Music Unlimited and YouTube Red (which are already bundled for paying customers). That's a $40 value at today's subscription price.

Review: The JBL Clip 2 is a pint-sized speaker that punches above its weight

Last week I reviewed the largest portable Bluetooth speaker I've ever seen. This week, the speaker we're looking at slots in at the opposite end of the spectrum. It's called the JBL Clip 2 ($60), and you'd need 44 of them to balance the scales with one Braven BRV XXL. Sure it's smaller, but its compact size makes it about a thousand times more portable, giving it a complete different set of uses. Is it any good? Read on and you'll find out.

What's in the box

  • The JBL Clip 2
  • MicroUSB charging cable
  • Instructions & warranty information

Notable features

  • IPX7 waterproof: Go ahead and dunk it, it can take it, as deep as 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Google Play's Family Library with app and game sharing goes live today, July 2nd

Family Library and sharing have been a long, really long, time coming on Google Play. In his different app teardowns, Cody has repeatedly discovered strings pointing out to the feature coming to Play Books, Play Movies, Play Services, the Play Store, but up until recently, the only Google entity that had benefited from any kind of family sharing was Play Music and its Family Plans.

But at this year's Google I/O, Google announced that Family Library was coming to Google Play app and games purchases with the new changes taking effect on July 2nd... which happens to be today.
