So, do you want to see how the Galaxy S II compares to the iPhone 4S when dropped directly onto concrete? Yeah, we thought you might -- and you you may actually be surprised at the results. Before you watch the video, though, I must warn you: watching these electronics plummet to their (presumed) demise can be a bit cringe inducing, even to not-so-squeamish among us. With that caveat out of the way, have a look at the video:

Pretty impressive, no?

Remember the Droid Bionic teaser site? If not, here's a quick refresher: four different blogs received some weird artifacts, each of which including a corresponding code. Once that code was entered into the site, it unlocked a new part of the video that ultimately unveiled the Bionic. Looks like Moto is doing something similar for the upcoming Droid RAZR, as it has sent out clues to 16 different blogs, all of which include a special unlock code that reveals a new feature of the RAZR.

Maxelus, a "Top Developer" in the Android Market, is well known for creating stunning (if not slightly trippy) live wallpapers - particularly the "Galaxy" series of LWPs that bring gorgeous, fictional outer space scenes to your Android phone or tablet.

Ostensibly looking to up the ante a bit, Maxelus recently introduced Alien Skins, a live wallpaper that offers over 1900 theme combinations, allowing one to mix and match skins and color schemes to their heart's content.

LG DoublePlay

Confirming the leak from last week, LG and T-Mobile USA have announced the whacky LG DoublePlay Android 2.3 smartphone. In portrait mode the phone is a fairly standard, albeit smallish, Android device, but slide it open and suddenly you have an extra screen in between a full QWERTY keyboard.

LG DoublePlay

When we first posted images of the DoublePlay its specs and features were uncertain, we can now confirm the following:

  • 3.5-inch main display, 2.0-inch sub display
  • 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
  • 5MP camera with 720p video recording
  • "Group Text" - create group chats on-the-go for faster content sharing
  • "Cloud Text" - send and receive texts between a PC or a tablet

The press release boasts a lot about the DoublePlay's dual capacitive touch screens, which supposedly makes the device the "ultimate multitasking handset".

U.S. Bank has decided to jump on the bandwagon and release their own Android banking app, which promises a fresh look, better navigation and improved security.

The app supports all the standard features one would expect from banking apps, including the ability to:

  • Deposit checks with DepositPoint Mobile - simply take a photo of the front and back of your check and input the dollar amount.
  • Pay bills
  • Check balances
  • Transfer money between accounts
  • View transactions
  • Locate ATMs

Atrix 2

AT&T's fall line-up of smartphones got a boost today with the Motorola Atrix 2 going on sale for $99.99 with a 2-year contract.

Atrix2(2)

However, if you are a new customer signing up for a 2-year contract, we would strongly recommend heading to AmazonWireless and picking up the device for only $49.99.

Atrix2

Unfortunately, the deal isn't so great for current customers as they will have to pay $199.99 for the handset.

Those who already have an AT&T contract may be feeling left out by Amazon's lack of a discount, but fear not as Best Buy is offering the Atrix 2 for $49.99 to ALL its customers, regardless of whether they are upgrading or signing up for a new line.

Samsung just announced in a blog post today, that they have filed preliminary injunctions in the Tokyo District Court and in the New South Wales Registry to ban the sale of Apple's iPhone 4S in Japan and Australia, respectively. Additionally, in Japan, Samsung have also requested an injunction to bar the sale of the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2.

According to Samsung, the injunction request in Australia is premised on Apple infringing various patents relating to wireless telecommunications standards, specifically Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) and High Speed Packet Access (HSPA).

The Sony Reader PRS-T1, a 6" e-ink reader that debuted earlier this year, has been hacked to run Android. It's a known fact that the Reader has been running Android from the get-go, but it runs a heavily modified build, and many thought that it would never see true Android goodness. Any doubt users had, however, can now be laid to rest - an unnamed hacker has got the T1 running Android with AWLauncher, and a bevvy of reading apps in tow.

Twitter is absolutely abuzz about Verizon's LTE network at the moment, but not because it's blazingly fast or convenient for on-the-go web browsing. No, Twitter is currently blowing up because it seems that 4G is down for most (if not all) VZW subscribers. For many 4G users, 3G is also having issues, likely a side-effect caused by Verizon's 4G devices. Adding to the flood of tweets, reader J Weissman has also confirmed the outage, tipping us just moments ago.
