Yesterday, we saw a leaked image of an HTC phone said to be internally called the "Proto." Thanks to an eagle-eyed reader, it was brought to our attention that this isn't a new device at all; it's a slightly more powerful version of the Desire V that's already been released in international markets.

The only difference between the two? The Proto is said to sport a 1GHz dual-core processor, whereas the Desire V has a 1GHz single-core chip.

It looks like another one of HTC's handsets (besides the Thunderbolt) has gotten a Sense-ified Ice Cream Sandwich ROM of its own – today, XDA user nitsuj17 posted a ROM for the Droid Incredible 2 (aka vivow) allegedly based on another leaked RUU from HTC. Readers may remember the Incredible 2 as being among devices officially slated by HTC to receive Ice Cream Sandwich "by the end of August," so this leak's timing isn't too hard to figure out.

Since hearing earlier this month that HTC's Desire S, Thunderbolt, and other select handsets would receive ICS updates "by the end of August," we have heard nary a peep from the Taiwanese manufacturer. Today though, thanks to an alleged leaked RUU, we have a stock Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 build for the Thunderbolt (aka Mecha).

According to Administrator's post at TeamBAMF's forums, the ROM, based on a leaked RUU (and carrying build number 7.00.605.2), is said to be fully functional and fully stock, but it's worth noting that the ROM is deodexed and rooted, meaning those wishing to retain root are in luck, but if you – for one reason or another – want a strictly stock, non-rooted experience, you'll have to wait.

Okay, so maybe David's not looking forward to a point-and-shoot running Gingerbread, but someone probably is! Well, Ashton Q. Someone, here are some photos that should whet your appetite. Nikon Rumors is reporting the first alleged leaked images of the Coolpix S800c, an Android-powered camera.

Oddly, the center image above does not match the other two. It's unclear if this means there will be a whole line of Android cameras (unlikely), if a single image of a different camera got mixed in (probably), or if the whole thing is fake (possible).

Update: Looks like this may be another fake thrown into the game. A nearly-identical mockup was posted on Twitter not long ago, so this could just be another elaborate hoax.

We've been hearing rumors of the Galaxy Note 2 for several weeks now, and a pretty believable image of the device has now made its way onto the net ahead of Samsung's August 29th event where we fully expect the device to be announced.

We saw a video yesterday of a Samsung Galaxy S III running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with a revamped notification bar and access to Google Now. Fast forward 24 hours, and you can now get hold of that firmware yourself to try it out on your very own Galaxy S III.

Update: A newer firmware I9300XXBLH4 got leaked over at XDA by Samsung-Updates.com. It's an OTA (meaning incremental update) that applies directly on top of I9300XXBLG8/I9300OXABLG8/I9300XXLH1.

Last night, Artem tore down the APK of the new Play Store and found a whole bunch of upcoming goodies, including  support for wishlists and gift cards. The first physical evidence of said gift cards has now landed in the hands of Android Central, showing off what we'll likely see soon in retail stores across the country.

That, of course, raises another question: which stores will sell these gift cards?

"Wait, didn't the Rezound just get an OTA update to build 4.03.605.1?" is something you may be asking yourself right now. And the answer to that is yes. Yes it did. We assume that build was some sort of soak test, however, as it hasn't actually started rolling out en masse just yet, and Verizon has been completely silent about the whole thing.

But this build is one more. Point one more, to be exact; so...

4.1 better

In something of a surprise, it appears Samsung has already been hard at work on preparing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III, as evidence by this YouTube video posted by AndroidMX. The build is labeled as i9300XADLG4. It's definitely looking legit, and while the visual changes to the Galaxy S III in Jelly Bean seem minor, there's no doubt that many owners of the device are absolutely chomping at the bit for access to Google Now in its full, un-ported glory.

We've received some interesting information from an insider at Carphone Warehouse suggesting that a black version of Samsung's Galaxy S III is in the works, and we're inclined to trust it. Here's our evidence, from the company's internal product database:

If you recall, way back when the Galaxy S III was but a rumor-laden twinkle in our collective eyes, GSMArena received a similar leak from inside Carphone Warehouse confirming the white and blue colors the phone was launched in.
