padfone mini

The Padfone form factor is a unique one, and even if it hasn't set the world on fire, I'm glad to see that ASUS continues to upgrade and modify it. The latest iteration appears to be a midrange phone/tablet combo: reliable tipster Evleaks showed a new PadFone Mini model on his Twitter account, with a 4.3" phone body and what appears to be a 7-inch tablet shell.

There's no detailed technical information available, though Evleaks does mention a 2013 release.

Alas poor QWERTY, I knew him, Horatio! A fellow of infinite texts, of most excellent data entry. Here hung those keys that I have tapped I know not how oft. Where be your Tweets now? Your emails? Your Google+ posts? Nowhere around here, that's for sure - the QWERTY slider phone has become rare in the last year or so, with only the Samsung Stratosphere II, the LG Enact, and a BlackBerry or two filling the once-swollen ranks.

Cyanogen Inc. is making moves on its next officially-endorsed piece of hardware, but this time it isn't with an OEM we've heard of, at least according to a source who asked not be named with knowledge of the situation. While Cyanogen Inc. did indeed tease such a new hardware partner on Google+, we've got a few extra details on the upcoming device that you might be interested in.

First, we're hearing that the phone will be made by a "new company" - not any existing OEM we're familiar with.

There was an unusually specific leak from Samsung last month, showing a relatively accelerated schedule for updates on the Galaxy S4, S III, and Note II on all four major American carriers. That isn't much comfort for those customers on US Cellular, since the #5 carrier wasn't quite important enough to be included in the leak. But now there's a new leak in town, helpfully provided by an anonymous tipster, showing that the US Cellular Galaxy S4 will be updated on Friday the 8th.

If you can tear your gaze away from KitKat and Nexus news today, there's actually other stuff going on in the Android world. The indefatigable Evleaks has just posted what he claims is a photo (of a photo) of the Moto G, which he himself was sent via a tip. It looks a lot like the Moto X, but as some have predicted, with more low-end specs.

According to the tweet, the phone will use the same screen size and resolution as the Moto X, and both the front and rear of the body look remarkably similar to Motorola's current flagship.

If you believe the predictions, Google is going to announce Android 4.4 KitKat (and the Nexus 5) in mere hours. According to a new report based on leaked marketing materials, Android 4.4 is going to tackle some of the biggest issues that have been plaguing the platform and Google's services as a whole.

If case you don't remember, Google announced Helpouts back in August. It's a different take on Hangouts where experts can make their assistance available via a video chat session for a fee or free of charge. Google has been laying the groundwork for a public rollout of the service, but no dates have been made official. We've been passed some information by a trusted source that says November 5th is the big day – that's just one week away.

Google still hasn't said anything official, but the Nexus 5 is clearly ready for launch. Canadian carrier Wind Mobile has just put up its Nexus 5 pre-registration page on Facebook so interested parties can get on the list to be notified (at some point). Along with the form, we get a nice spec list, which confirms a few things about this device.

Update: All the images posted on Google+ have now been removed. We've still got the veggie image and EXIF info embedded below.

If you believe the rumor mill, the Nexus 5 is going to be announced in mere days, and we know that many Googlers are carrying the devices around. It was only a matter of time before some of them forgot to scrub their EXIF data. Several images taken with the Nexus 5 have been spotted, but some have already been pulled.

One of the UK's largest and most unfortunately named phone sellers, Carphone Warehouse, is apparently fully stocked with the still unannounced Nexus 5. The leaked screen shows 1500 units of the white Nexus 5 in stock, but there are allegedly 1500 black units as well.
