You made your nominations, and we've selected four of the most popular titles named as "Best New Android App of 2011" for you to vote on. You voted. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner.

Creating an aesthetically pleasing home screen for your phone or tablet has become an art in itself, and an entire ecosystem packed with widgets, themes, wallpapers, launchers, and custom ROMs has built up to support it. Sometimes, it can be tough to find a winning combination of elements to create a beautiful and enduring home screen that provides both form and function.

For this reason, we have decided to open up a monthly call for gorgeous, well-decorated home screens of all shapes and sizes.

December's Home Screen Challenge – like our first two challenges – gave us a look at some extremely impressive home screens, pushing aesthetics and home screen tweaking to their limits. It was tough to pick just one winner, but in the end, suprafreak1000's zen-like reimagining of the Android interface won us over. Like always, we'll break down the winning home screen and explain each of its parts, so you, the reader, can design your own creation using the same elements.

After getting a glimpse of Avast's new mobile security solution a few weeks ago, I just had to dive in and give the app a full review. Avast, the long-awaited marriage of Avast and IT Agents' Theft Aware (see our review), certainly doesn't disappoint. It has an insane number of features, all of which appear to work perfectly, and it sounds like things will only be improving with time.

And did I mention the full-featured, root-enhanced app is completely free with no paid version in sight?

As a follow-up to the mother of all game roundups I posted the other day, today let's take a look at all the app roundups posted throughout this past year.

As before, everyone should find something of interest in the lists below (if you don't, I don't believe you). Use one of the two strategies:

  1. Browse the top of each post for the cream of the crop selection (I think I started sorting by quality towards the end of the first half of the year).

And the Andy goes to.... Shadowgun - by a razor thin 14 votes.

While it was by the narrowest of margins that Shadowgun won a plurality of the votes (32% - see below), it's not hard to see why - truly amazing graphics, great over the shoulder gameplay, and console-level polish made it clear from the day we first saw screenshots of this game that it was going to do big things.

2011 was most definitely the year during which Android gaming was transformed from relatively mediocre to absolutely stunning. As an introduction for all the newcomers and a refresher for those who have been with Android for a while, here are all of the game roundups we've posted in 2011.

Every single one of you should find something in there that you will want to install. I can suggest two strategies:

  1. Browse the top of each post for the cream of the crop selection (I think I started sorting by quality towards the end of the first half of the year).
