NVIDIA Updates The Shield Portable To Android 5.1, Removes Unsupported Features And Games

The original Shield Portable is finally getting the bump to Android 5.1 from 4.4, but don't rush right out and download the OTA just yet. There are a few caveats with this one. Yes, you get the latest version of Android, but it will remove several games and features that are bundled with the old KitKat software.

Dell Updates The Venue 8 7840 To Android 5.1

Dell took its sweet time updating the super-slim Venue 8 tablet to Android 5.0. It finally got this done back in early May, though this was after blowing several previous release dates. To make up for it, Dell just pushed Android 5.1 to this device. I'm a little surprised Dell hasn't moved on yet.

AT&T's HTC One M9 Gets Its Android 5.1 Over-The-Air Update, RUU File Also Available

HTC One M9 owners on AT&T, your update is now ready. The Android 5.1 update is going out to customers starting today. Well, yesterday, at least according to the support page text, though we haven't actually heard from any AT&T customers who have actually spotted the OTA yet. In addition to the software goodies in Lollipop 5.1, this build includes "Device Protection." Remember, it may be a week or more before the staggered rollout gets to everyone.

AT&T Has Started Its 1st Gen Moto X Android 5.1 Soak Test—And Made The Update Available For Everyone To Pull Manually

The original Moto X launched in 2013, and while the device is approaching the two year mark, it's still new enough for people to reasonably expect an upgrade to the newest Android releases.

Well, some owners on AT&T have taken to Google+ with screenshots of Android 5.1 coming to their hardware. The carrier has started soak testing the latest version of Lollipop in anticipation of a general rollout, but some recipients were able to get the goods without an invite.

Unlocked Versions Of The Original Moto G LTE Are Getting Android 5.1 In The United States

The original Moto G started a revolution for mid-range phones - specifically by introducing the idea that they didn't have to suck. Motorola is still keeping the first-gen Moto G updated, and today (or late last night), unlocked versions of the Moto G LTE in the United States started receiving the over-the-air update to Android 5.1. This was pretty much expected, since Motorola dropped the kernel source code for the update last week and tested it in soak before that.

Dang. That's a nice photo, Joshua Worth.

Motorola's phones tend to stick very close to Android's open source code, especially once you get out of the flagship range.

The HTC One M9 Developer Edition Is Being Updated To Android 5.1

Owners of Developer Edition phones are the most dedicated of Android enthusiasts, they who eschew the traditional carrier model and put their money where their mouths are for the sake of total control and the principles of open-source operating systems. (Also, I suppose a few of them might be actual software developers. You never know.) For those who've purchased the Developer Edition of HTC's 2015 flagship, the update to Android 5.1 is going out right now.
