OTA updates are usually a good thing, but first impressions can be misleading. The just leaked Android 4.4 KitKat build for the Galaxy S4 seems good, but some behind-the-scenes changes broke SuperSU, making root access difficult. Ever the go-getter, Chainfire already has it sorted out.

The new flashable ZIP file is available from Chainfire's site – version number 1.89. CF-Auto-Root has also been updated to include the new SuperSU. This has been successfully tested with the leaked ROM on the GT-i9505, but should also be fine on other devices you need to get root on.

Dell began sending out Android 4.3 updates to it's budget Atom-based Android tablets late last year, but it's been a super-slow rollout. Well, now it's picking up steam. The OTA should be hitting both tablets soon, if not already.

Verizon has shared details for an upcoming Galaxy Note 10.1 software update that will bring Samsung's WatchON app to the device. The service, which comes pre-installed on many Samsung devices, turns your phone or tablet into an interactive TV guide. It comes with a universal remote for channel surfing, simplifies searching for shows, and enables you to watch some content across multiple devices. This functionality comes bundled as a part of software version JZ054K.I925VRAMK1.

The DROID Incredible 4G LTE came out in 2012, and it hasn't received an OTA since that year. The phone was less-than-stellar at the time, and since its hardware was worse than its software, an update can't do much to turn it into a better device. That said, if you already own this quirky handset, be on the lookout for a notification bringing with it a handful of enhancements, such as ISIS Wallet support, reduced power cycling, and some security patches.

On-screen and accelerometer controls work great for some mobile games, but other times you just want a real controller. Wikipad, the company behind the gaming-centric Wikipad tablet is introducing a new product called the Gamevice at CES. This is a split controller that expands and contracts to fit on your mobile device.

The Gamevice has what Wikipad calls a "flex bridge" design. Presumably the middle portion of the controller can be adjusted to snugly fit around your mobile device.

HTC is pulling back the curtain a bit to give us a peek at what goes into a device update. Not only that, but it has broken out the different versions of the HTC One with individual KitKat statuses and a big infographic explaining the process.

HTC

The HTC One comes in three basic types – the carrier version, unlocked/developer edition, and the Google Play Edition device. Of course, it's the carrier version of the HTC One at Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile still waiting on KitKat.

If one of NVIDIA's Tegra Note devices was under your Christmas tree this year, a quick jump into the System Updates menu should bring just one more gift: an OTA directly from NVIDIA. This is the first major system update for the company's first tablet platform, and should be available on all brands of the device, including EVGA, ADVENT, Gigabyte, Shezhen Homecare Technology, ZOTAC, and XOLO.

As NVIDIA has promised timely updates to the Tegra Note line of devices, this OTA brings the OS version up to Android 4.3 – not the KitKat update that many of you were likely hoping for, but a nice little version bump nonetheless.

Guys and gals, it's a big day for nabi 2 owners. The days of rooting and flashing Google Play will be long gone later today, because Fuhu will be officially rolling Google Services out the company's most popular tablet.

Since the nabi 2's release, the one sticking point has always been the lack of Google Play. This left users with Amazon's Appstore or Fuhu's App Zone (or worse, some third party "store" no one has ever heard of) for their application needs.

While the Moto G launched just earlier this month with Android 4.3, Motorola isn't wasting any time keeping the device's OS up to date - they've just announced an Android 4.4.2 OTA for the company's super cheap entry-level handset, mere weeks after the phone itself was unveiled. Here are the changes Motorola's touting as part of the update:

Android 4.4.2, KitKat, is the latest release of the Android platform. KitKat includes enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, smarter power use, and more tools and capabilities for better app development.
