Huawei Shares Which Phones Will Receive An Android 6.0 Update, In China At Least

Huawei is one of the largest smartphone makers in the world, and while it may not be anywhere near as prominent outside of China as it is domestically, the brand is attracting an increasing amount of attention. You could say part of this is due to the company producing one of this year's Nexuses, but credit also goes out to an increasingly attractive portfolio of hardware.

Still, making decent phones is only part of the process. You also have to support them, an area where Huawei has had an awkward track record.

So Huawei has announced which phones it intends to upgrade to Android 6.0.

Huawei Finally Releases Lollipop For The US P8 Lite, But It's A Manual Update That Erases Your Data

Oh, Huawei. The Chinese OEM is responsible for one of the latest Nexus devices on the hardware side, but its software acumen is still somewhat lacking. The P8 Lite launched in the US earlier this year running Android 4.4 KitKat, and it's finally getting an update to Android 5.1 Lollipop. The catch (well, one of them) is that it's a manual flash that'll erase all the data on your phone.

Samsung Updates Verizon's Galaxy Core Prime From Android 4.4 All The Way To 5.1.1

Android updates are in the spotlight again, thanks to Motorola's questionable dedication to its own recent products. And while you can (usually) count on at least one or two software updates for most flagship phones, sometimes a low-end device comes back and surprises you. Such is the case with the Galaxy Core Prime, a Verizon exclusive in the US which launched with Android 4.4 back in February. At the time the relatively small and underpowered budget phone was promised an update to Lollipop. Quoting David earlier this year: "Oh, and it actually comes with a promise of a Lollipop upgrade, so that's good, though how long it'll take is anyone's guess."

You can stop guessing: it took a little less than eight months.

[WTF] Motorola Marketed The Moto E 2015 On Promise Of Updates, Is Now Apparently Ending Them After 219 Days

Today, Motorola published a list of the devices it would be updating to Android Marshmallow. And to be clear: that list is of planned updates. All of them. If a device is not on that list, Motorola is not planning on upgrading it to Marshmallow at this time, and that means those plans are unlikely to change. We even have explicit confirmation that Moto X 2014 AT&T and Verizon models, which do not appear on this list, will not be getting Android 6.0.
