The tech market is getting competitive these days, and smartphone manufacturers that aren't named Apple or Samsung must price their products aggressively to survive. Motorola didn't seem to get that memo when it launched the unlocked Moto Z with an MSRP of $699.99, but with this latest discount, it appears that the company has seen the light. For a limited time, B&H is offering the Moto Z in unlocked guise with a bunch of freebies for just $449.99 - that's $250 off retail, for those of you who aren't math people. Read More
We don't really know how popular Google Home is, although it's got a lot of things missing, such as sending text messages and identifying songs. However, presumably so people start buying them, Google has reduced the price of the different bases by half, to $10 for the cheaper fabric ones and $20 for the metal variants.
That means the mango, marine, and violet bases, which are made from fabric, are only $10 instead of $20. While the latter is maybe a little much, the former seems like a steal. Meanwhile, the carbon, copper, and snow bases, which are made from metal and, at least to my eyes, look much cooler, are $20. Read More
Back around the time of the Galaxy Nexus, I recall a counter-culture developing, calling for an end to the insanity of oversized phones with screens as big as 4.7 inches. They wanted a smaller alternative, built for human hands and human pockets. While the itty bitty smartphone committee might have lost the good fight in a general sense, they now have a few more options, including the Xperia X Compact. Its screen is only 4.6 inches. Hey, it's the principle that counts. Read More
BLU is widely known for its budget phones, and the VIVO 5R is one of the company's newest devices. Normally costing $199, the 5R is a 5.5" phone with a (arguably) premium look, but during today only you can get it on Amazon for $149.99. Read More
360 cameras are awesome. I love my LG 360 Cam and find it is perfect for encapsulating a moment in time into one shot and letting you sort of travel back in time and immerse yourself in everything around you during the second the picture or video was taken. If you haven't bought a 360 camera yet and you're wondering what the fuss is about, there's a nice deal on Samsung's Gear 360 today at several retailers dropping the price down to around $273 from its original MSRP of $350.
The Gear 360 has dual 15MP f/2.0 fisheye lenses for 3840 x 1920 360-degree (horizontally and vertically) videos and 30MP still images. Read More
Every day we seem to be inundated with ads about who has the absolute cheapest data plan. Online, television, billboards, junk mail, even old-fashioned radio - it seems I can't go five minutes without each carrier telling me how much cheaper they are than everyone else, going so far as to hire old Verizon spokesmen and make dubious claims about reliability.
You know what? To hell with all of that. I've looked at every smartphone plan from every nationwide carrier in the country, big and small, to find the absolute cheapest plans. Let's pinch some freakin' pennies. Read More
The mighty microSD card gets better and better as time goes along. Even though my daily driver phones have not supported the tiny storage medium in some time, I still get excited about deals like the one we have here. B&H has the SanDisk 256GB Ultra on sale for $119.95, a savings of $60. Read More
Another week, another combo of app and game deals on the Play Store. And this week, we have a great selection if you ask me.
The app is Twilight Pro Unlock, the paid version of Twilight which filters the blue light from your display at night to limit its effects on your sleep cycle. Even if that's not 100% proven scientifically, the soft red filter does indeed tone down the display and should be more pleasant to look at in dark environments and at night. The Pro version lets you set more than 2 profiles, adjust the transition time, and completely turn off the Twilight service on your phone when it's not working. Read More
