While we were collaborating on the Galaxy Note 8.0 review, Cameron and I wondered what the "sweet spot" for pricing on this tablet would be. This is it: at $300, the Galaxy Note 8.0 becomes an easy recommendation rather than an exercise in compromises (especially if you're looking for a Goldilocks mid-sized screen). eBay has Samsung's latest stylus-oriented tablet for $299.99, assuming that you're OK with a manufacturer refurbished model. Shipping to the US is free, and you may not have to pay sales tax unless you live in New Jersey.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 features some pretty respectable hardware, most of it in common with the older Note 10.1: A 1.6Ghz Exynos quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a MicroSD card slot, and a 5MP rear camera (sans flash). Read More
It's Sunday. You shouldn't be reading your go-to Android site, you should be spending time with your children. But since you are reading this, you might as well grab some cheap children's book apps from Loud Crow Interactive for when you feel like seeing them again. Unless you don't have children, in which case you can get some cheap games and a sweet live wallpaper instead. Or I suppose you could do both. Whatever you want. It's Sunday.
If you're in the market for a gigantic, tablet-like smartphone that doesn't start with the word "Galaxy," you'd be hard-pressed to find a better candidate than the LG Optimus G Pro. And if you want it on AT&T, you won't find anywhere that has it cheaper than Amazon. The 5.5-inch phone is just $49.99 for new contact signees and returning customers whose 2-year re-up has come, with free two-day shipping to boot (you don't even need Amazon Prime). Without a contract, you're looking at a $600 retail price.
The G Pro (as the cool kids are calling it) is LG's current flagship for the American market, with its enormous 5.5-inch 1080p screen taking center stage. Read More
If you're in the market for some new, high-quality over-the-ear headphones but aren't sure where to start, check out today's Gold Box deal on Amazon: V-Moda's Crossfade LPs are going for $75. These are normally $200 a pop (though Amazon's yesterday price was $107), so that's a fairly substantial savings (63% off for those who prefer to calculate their savings in percentages).
So, what makes these a good choice? For starters, V-Moda's headphones are rough and rugged – you can't break these things. In fact, the company stands behind all of its headphones with an Immortal Life Program, which basically states that "in the unlikely event you run over your headphones with a tank, with the V-MODA Immortal Life Program, you get 50% off a replacement for a lifetime." They sport a Kevlar-reinforced cable (which Artem swears by) that includes a mic and three-button remote. Read More
Google's anointed Android tablet is a pretty good deal even when you buy it at retail, but there's a solid deal for the Nexus 10 on eBay right now if you don't mind refurbished hardware. This is the 32GB variant of the tablet, which usually goes for $499. So this deal saves you $110.
The weekend is upon us, and that means some well-deserved rest. While you're loafing about, why not get some new apps? We've got some great deals right below, so take a look.
Update 6/29/13: The original price for these was $539.99, but it's since been dropped to $499.99.
The Galaxy S4 Mini isn't as powerful as the original S4, its screen isn't as nice, nor is it as easy to find. That said, an unlocked version of Galaxy S4 Mini is available today-only on eBay for $499.99. It's not that much cheaper than the full-sized version, but that may not matter for people with smaller hands or tighter pockets. 5-inches can be too much phone for some users, regardless of the price.
Today's discount applies to both the black and white versions of the device, so have at it. Read More
