Students have small budgets. We get that. Apparently, so does Samsung. So they took one of their most affordable tablets - the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0  - and threw it in a box with the Tab keyboard and USB adapter, but kept the price tag the same as the tablet itself: $250.

1

Essentially, you're buying the tablet and getting the keyboard and USB adapter completely free, and that's a pretty solid deal. While the Tab 2 7.0 may not be as powerful as the competing Nexus 7, it's still nothing to scoff at in terms of hardware (and Eric actually liked it when he reviewed it):

  • 7-inch 1024x600 TFT display
  • 1GHz dual-core TI processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB built-in storage, microSD card slot
  • 3.2MP rear shooter, VGA front camera
  • Android 4.0 with Touchwiz UX

And the keyboard?

If you've ever been caught without your phone charger, or perhaps without a nearby power outlet, you understand the potential value of having an external charging pack or two lying around. If you've ever considered picking up a charging pack but haven't been able to find a cost-effective opportunity to do so, today's deal from New Trent and Amazon is your chance.

It's been a while since we last saw a deal from New Trent on their external battery packs and chargers, but users over at SlickDeals have spotted a good one – until August 21, 2012, battery junkies can grab NT's 7100mAh and 5200mAh packs together for just $55.00.

The Sony Xperia Ion, which we first saw back at CES (and later saw as an AT&T exclusive device), while not a flagship superphone, is definitely a decent device – it packs a dual-core snapdragon processor at 1.5GHz, a 4.55" LCD display at 720x1280 (~323ppi), 1GB RAM, and a 1900mAh battery.

If you like the looks of the Ion but are still waiting for just the right deal before pulling the trigger, this is it. Best Buy is offering the Ion for exactly $0.00 with new 2-year contract or upgrade plus free shipping. Those inclined to buy from Amazon Wireless can still get the phone at a deeply discounted rate of just $30.00.

So you love QWERTYs. We get that. Apparently, so does Sprint and Motorola, because last month they announced the Photon Q, which is probably the most powerful QWERTY slider on the market right now.

Hopefully you haven't already pre-ordered through Sprint, because Wirefly and Let's Talk just dropped the pre-order price by $50. That means you can get this keyboard-packing LTE slider for $150 instead of $200. That's not a bad savings for a phone that hasn't even been released yet.

Of course, if you're considering jumping to Sprint from another carrier, you may want to take advantage of the current "add a line, get a $100 AMEX giftcard" deal going on exclusively through The Now Network, instead.

Everyone likes "free" money, and Sprint is looking to take advantage of our human nature with its latest deal: buy any smartphone and add a new line of service, get a $100 Amex giftcard. It's not exactly free money, per se, but it is a nice incentive, especially if you've been considering adding a second line anyway.

As the ad above states, this deal is available for any smartphone (as long as you order it online). You know what that means? That it also works by pre-ordering the upcoming Motorola Photon Q. So if you planned on grabbing a Q and adding a new line for your sister/mother/brother/uncle/dog/self, then now's probably the time to jump on that.

summer sale
Last Updated: August 11th, 2012

It's a good time to be an Android gamer - three respectable game developers have just slashed the prices of their games to less than $1 (up to 85% off) in a wild summer sale.

First up, Gameloft's 3D MMORPG Order & Chaos has seen its price reduced to $0.99. This is a pretty significant sale considering it usually costs $6.99, and it seems like a viable option for MMORPG fans, as evidenced by its current 4.25-star rating on the Play Store.

Yesterday, we featured a great deal on a stationary Bluetooth dock. Say you need something a bit more portable, though. What should you buy then? Heavens, can anyone save you from this crisis of audio need?! Well, yeah. And calm down. Here's a portable Bluetooth speaker from Best Buy. Today only, this Rocketfish SPX15 is available for $40, which is $60 off its normal MSRP and about $30 off its already-lower price on Amazon. Not bad.

According to reviews on Amazon and CNET, it's a decent little box. The built-in battery is rechargeable which is always a nice touch, and reports are that the sound quality is good.

fidelio

Android docks are thin on the ground, mostly because there's just too many phones and tablets for accessory makers to invest in developing them. Philips is the exception, and while their range of Fidelio docks have been well-received, they're also pretty expensive. On that note, you can pick up the Fidelio AS140/37, their mid-range Android speaker dock, for just $49.99 in Target stores. That's $60 off the suggested retail price, and more than $30 off of Amazon's price. The deal is not available on Target's website - trying to get it into your cart will only return an error. We called a local store to make sure the deal is active.

wm_GALAXY S III Product Image (8)_B

There's no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S III is the best phone on all four major carriers right now. If you're considering picking one up on Big Red (despite its locked bootloader), you can now score the 32GB version in white or blue from either Amazon Wireless or Wirefly. Yeah, we know: it's a tough choice. First you have to decide which color to buy, then which vendor to buy it from. To make it easier, you could just do a couple of coin tosses. Maybe you'll end up with white from Amazon Wireless. Or perhaps the blue one from Wirefly.

We just posted a Fall 2012 smartphone buyer's guide in which the Galaxy S III came out the best phone across all carriers. And now, if you're willing to switch to Sprint, you can get the best dang Android phone on the planet for just $119.

Update: It just dropped to $100.
