Smartphones are probably some of the most personal devices on the planet. They hold our contacts. Our family photos. Our, um, personal photos. Text messages. Private conversations. Many of a person's secrets could probably be uncovered with a little exploration of their smartphone. So, what's the best way to keep things safe on your smartphone? With a little security, of course.

Android offers a few of its own solutions to keeping your private data private, like a customizable unlock pattern, password, or PIN code on the lockscreen.

Andrew Bell's kickass mini Android collectibles are, well, kickass. But sometimes the job calls for a bigger Android collectible. I'm honestly not sure what job that may be, but there has to be at least one. And for that one, Andrew has answered the call – welcome the Mega Android Collectible to the family. At ten inches, it's pretty big. Comparatively, anyway. (Mind out of the gutter, guys.)

This massive Android features ball-jointed arms and a big ol' removable head.

In a normal giveaway, we have a one, two, ten...some number of devices to give away, and that's basically the end of it. This giveaway, however, is different. This go, we're working with Poweramp and Negri Electronics to give away one of five handsets:

  • Samsung Galaxy S5

There's no doubt that Chromecast is cool. You know what else is cool? Casting stuff from your phone or tablet to AppleTV, FireTV, Roku, Chromecast, Xbox 360, Xbox One, WDTV, a SmartTV, or other DLNA-certified devices. And that's exactly what Koush's AllCast app does – makes streaming locally-stored and some cloud-stored (Dropbox, Drive, G+, or even a server) media simple and easy.

Along with beta support for streaming from Google Drive and to FireTV, Koush also recently added another new feature to AllCast: redemption codes to enable premium features.

There comes a time in every mobile user's life when a new phone that he or she simply must have hits the scene. The problem is, that scenario probably hits on a yearly basis (at the very least), and contracts are generally for a two-year term; that leaves no option but paying full-price for the new handset.

To help offset some of the cost of the new device, the most logical option is to sell the old one.

Three days ago, we turned four. To celebrate, we teamed up with NVIDIA to give away four devices: a SHEILD, EVGA Tegra Note 7, HP Slate 7 Extreme, and ASUS TF701 with dock. Due to the popularity of that giveaway (and since those guys are so cool), NVIDIA offered up another TN7, Slate 7 Extreme, and TF701 with dock , giving three more readers a chance to win.

This contest is now over.

On March 23rd, 2010, Android Police was born, which makes today our 4th anniversary! While we'd like to have a birthday party with cake, balloons, streamers, punch, pie, and party games (have to keep it clean – this is a party for a four year old, after all), we decided instead to just team up with NVIDIA and give away some killer gadgets. So instead of giving gifts to AP for its birthday, we're actually giving gifts to our readers.

So, you may or may not have noticed that a pretty special thing happened recently: we surpassed 500,000 followers on Google+. Five hundred thousand. Half-a-million people now get their AP fix directly from Google+, which we think is pretty great.

As a huge thanks to all of our G+ followers (and everyone else who reads AP, of course), we teamed up with NVIDIA to offer a giveaway that's just as special as the occasion it represents: we're giving away two SHIELDs.

A lot of things happened recently: Valentine's Day, NBA All-Star Weekend, and today is Presidents' Day. You can go ahead and pick one of those now as the reason for this giveaway, because we don't actually have one. Maybe your V-Day was crappy, so a free tablet will cheer you up. Maybe you're bummed because [spoiler alert] the West lost, so you need a pick me up. Maybe you're not from America and couldn't care less about Presidents' Day – it's a holiday here, and we'll give you a free tablet because of that.

Any decent bank heist movie always has one common hurdle for the would-be thieves: a regularly changing access code to the vault, and only one person knows what it is.
