[I/O 2011] Android Alliance Promises Timely Android OS Updates For 18 Months After Device Launch

This is huge. Like, massively huge. Probably the best thing to come out of Google I/O so far this morning huge. I'm talking about the Android Alliance and the solution to a problem that has plagued Android users since the beginning of time (okay, maybe not that long).

The Android Alliance is a special task force dedicated to delivering Android updates quickly and efficiently to all devices for 18 months after they're released. Among the companies involved are Verizon, HTC, Samsung (imagine that), Sprint, Sony Ericsson, LG, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Motorola, and AT&T - which basically covers most of the Android world.

HTC Sensation Pre-Orders Now Open On Vodafone UK, Delivery By May 19th

HTC Sensation, the latest of HTC's European Android handsets, featuring a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 4.3" qHD display, 768MB of RAM, dual cameras (1080P HD 8MP on the back and 2MP on the front), and 1GB of internal storage, is now available for pre-order on Vodafone UK.

You can expect to get EVO 3D's younger brother for free on plans starting at £35 a month, for £99 on the £30 plan, and for £199 on the £25 plan. If all goes well, you'll have the shiny speed demon in your hands by May 19th. Not a bad deal, not a bad one at all.

Vodafone Portugal Selling Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v For €589.90 Starting Tomorrow

Remember the wafer-thin new Galaxy Tab 10.1 we saw at CTIA? Yeah, well, you might have to wait a while longer before you can get your paws on one of those - but if you live in Portugal and you're willing to sacrifice some of that slimness, you'll be able to obtain an ever-so-slightly thicker model called the Galaxy Tab 10.1v starting tomorrow. The tablet will be sold through Vodafone for the price of €589.90 and will be:

10.9mm thick
Running on stock Honeycomb
Powered by a dual-core 1 GHz Tegra 2 CPU
Including an HPSA+ radio
Featuring an 8MP rear camera

Vodafone will also be selling the 10.1v in the Netherlands, though they have not yet announced its price there; the only detail we have so far is that it'll launch in "week 17," which should mean sometime before May 1st.

Surprise, Surprise - Gingerbread Update For Galaxy S "Temporarily Suspended"

Don't tell us you didn't see this one coming: Samsung's Gingerbread update for the Galaxy S has been "temporarily suspended." Great.

This time, the abeyance was actually brought about by Google - apparently, the update includes "an issue," though Vodafone claims that their variant of the device is not affected. Nonetheless, the 2.3 software is no longer available from KIES, and won't be until it is "reinstated" (which will happen "as soon as possible").

In the meantime, well, you can look forward to hearing your Galaxy S-wielding friends bemoan Sammy's unreliable updates... again.

Dual-Core HTC Sensation Official, Coming To T-Mobile USA As Sensation 4G This Summer

HTC just announced via Twitter that the Sensation is a go - posting pictures on its Facebook page of the device at various seductive angles, as well as this video:

Did we mention it's coming to T-Mobile? And it'll be sporting an HSPA+ radio to take advantage of T-Mobile's 4G network. Unfortunately, it won't be available until this summer.

Earlier, Mobile Bulgaria (which, as of this writing, is down) stumbled upon a Vodafone product page for HTC's upcoming dual-core Android handset, the Sensation (aka the Pyramid). Availability for Europe and Asia will be throughout Q2 - no exact dates have been announced.

Vodafone Makes It Official: Nexus S Launching Worldwide In Black And White

Vodafone has officially announced they will be launching a black and white Nexus S on contract in 24 countries worldwide. Vodafone, which was one of Google's first carrier partners for the Nexus One, has listed the device as "coming soon" on their website. This should bump Nexus S sales a bit in the UK as up until now, the Google-branded handset was only available in the UK unlocked.

At this point, we do not have any details on a price or probable launch date, but look for this device soon. For those interested, hit the source link for more details.

Mysterious HTC Desire 2 Pops Up in Vodafone Inventory System, Is It The Pyramid?

A German HTC fan blog by the name HTC Inside published a shot from Vodafone's internal inventory system last night, revealing the existence of an HTC phone by the name "Desire 2". Phandroid pointed out that this may be a European version of the upcoming and equally mysterious dual-core Pyramid, and I'd say that's not too farfetched a theory.

We'll probably find out what this thing is at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (which starts on the 14th), so the mystery shouldn't last a whole lot longer.

Froyo Flood Begins: UK Vodaphone HTC Legend And Galaxy S Along With Korean Galaxy A And S Now Receiving Froyo Updates

What a day for Froyo! First, we had the Dell Streak, which has been long overdue for some frozen yogurt, and now not 1 but 4 more phones are receiving their Froyo updates. They are:

Vodaphone HTC Legend in the UK
Vodaphone Galaxy S in the UK
Galaxy A and Galaxy S in Korea

Interestingly enough, it's the carrier specific version of HTC Legend that is receiving Froyo, even before its carrier agnostic, unlocked brothers. The situation is usually the other way around because releasing through a carrier involves additional testing steps that normally slow things down. We'll take it though!

Samsung Galaxy Tab Announced In Germany For €730 Off Contract, €300 + €35 On A Monthly Contract

While Samsung's much anticipated 7-incher is still yet to arrive on a carrier in the USA, availability is spreading throughout Europe. Today, Vodafone Germany posted its prices for the Galaxy Tab, and they're looking pretty steep. For the proposed €729.90 ($1015), you could get not one but two nicely-specced dualcore netbooks (from Samsung!), which makes me question whether this is simply Samsung exploiting a naïve and nascent market; a price bubble which is set to burst shortly.

The on-contract price of €299.90 is also difficult to justify. The €35 "Notebook" tariff does not appear to include any voice minutes, despite the European Galaxy Tab's phone capabilities.
