Yesterday at Google I/O, The Goog announced the next version of Honeycomb (Android 3.1), and said that the first tablet to see the update would be the Verizon version of the Motorola XOOM. Motorola followed up that announcement with an official statement today, including when the other XOOM variants could expect to see to get some updated Honeycomb action.

XOOM owners will be able to enjoy some nice improvements with this update, including support for the new Movies feature in the Android Market, resizable widgets, full support for the newest version of Adobe Flash player (10.2), which brings drastic improvements to performance and stability; and support for USB peripherals like game controllers, keyboards, and mice.

Holy mother of all hotness - Amazon has been absolutely killing it in the mobile deals lately, already firmly capturing our Deal of the Week spot with the sweet $174.99 HTC Thunderbolt deal.

Update 5/10/11: The deal is back for a limited time again! Judging by the last promotion, this one will expire sometime before May 15th.

Forget that - the new $129.99 Thunderbolt deal that just went live on Amazon Wireless is the lowest recorded for this phone to date, making the price of the first 4G LTE Verizon handset almost half of what you would pay at Verizon ($250).

This is huge. Like, massively huge. Probably the best thing to come out of Google I/O so far this morning huge. I'm talking about the Android Alliance and the solution to a problem that has plagued Android users since the beginning of time (okay, maybe not that long).

The Android Alliance is a special task force dedicated to delivering Android updates quickly and efficiently to all devices for 18 months after they're released.

Make no mistake, the DROID Charge is a cool phone. It looks cool. Its boot screen looks cool. Hell, even the camera has been carefully crafted to look like some sort of crazy piece of future-tech.

In the past week, I've had three separate people ask me what phone it was (something that I never experienced with my Nexus One or the HTC Inspire), and then proceed in some way to compliment its appearance or the vividness of its display.

Since the day it was released, the DROID Incredible 2 has been hard to get ahold of, especially if you prefer to do all of your business with Amazon Wireless. Well, I'm happy to tell you that it has dropped its "backordered" status, is in stock, and available at a pretty incredible price (no pun intended). You can grab this second-gen monster for the low price of $100 with a new two-year agreement, which is 50% off the price that you will pay at Verizon.

Neither z4root nor SuperOneClick is currently working on the Charge (though I'm sure someone will come up with a one-click method soon enough), but guess what - Gingerbreak sure does. Follow these instructions, and you should have root and full /system unlock on your Droid Charge in a few minutes. Credit goes to the Exploid Crew and unnamed testers.

No custom recovery, such as ClockworkMod or RA, is available yet, but it is surely going to arrive very soon.

I awoke this morning to the UPS delivery guy dropping off a package at my house; lo and behold, it was a DROID Incredible 2 (Dinc2) review unit. As an EVO owner, I'm fairly familiar with what has fast become HTC's modus operandi - high quality, good price, and higher-end specs. With that in mind, I was looking forward to my time with the Dinc2, and tore into the box immediately (I didn't even put a shirt on first...

While Verizon has temporarily pushed back the release date of the DROID Charge after a 24-hour 4G LTE network outage yesterday, I did manage to get my hands on a review unit this afternoon.

The first thing I noticed was how sleek and futuristic this phone looks - it is just plain cool, in a way that no HTC or Motorola device even comes close to. The boot animation is probably the best on any DROID to date.

Big Red has always been renowned for its awe-inspiring commercials, but this latest spot for the DROID Charge takes things to a whole new level. Trapdoors, monolithic Microsoft Surface-style touchscreens, mind-boggling explosions - you name it, Verizon's included it. I won't spoil the fun for you, though; go ahead and watch the ad for yourself:

Too bad that fulmination didn't rid the phone of its outrageous $300 price tag.

Update: It looks like we jumped the gun on this one. The Inspire 4G will not be offered for free, it will be the Samsung Captivate.

It's no secret that we all love Android. But what do we love more than Android? Free Android phones, of course! Best Buy Mobile wants to feed our addiction with the newest episode of Free Phone Fridays (and in this case, Saturday, too). If you mosey on into BBM this weekend you can pick up the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon or the HTC Inspire 4G Samsung Captivate on AT&T free of charge (with a two-year agreement on their respective carriers, of course).
