A new update with version 2.20.605.3 is coming to Verizon's girly HTC Rhyme. Before you get too excited, no, it's not Ice Cream Sandwich, and it doesn't even contain anything particularly exciting. Here, take a look:

Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update, 2.20.605.3 710RD, for your HTC Rhyme. Verizon Wireless and HTC encourage you to download this update.

Device Features

  • “ Ringtones” has been replaced with “Edit Home” when the Menu key is pressed on the home screen.

Budget smartphones are a lot like those miniature cans of Coca-Cola you'll find on supermarket shelves - cheaper by the half-dozen than their higher-volume counterparts, but with the obvious catch that you're getting less sweet, delicious corn-juice for your dollar. It doesn't take more than 30 seconds to stop, think about this, and realize that even if you won't finish the big 12oz can during your lunch (or don't want to drink that much soda), you're still basically paying more for choosing to buy less.

Update: Looks like Motorola cancelled the soak test due to "deployment issues." Word has it that the update could still happen sometime next week.

Thanks, DW!

DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX users excited for an Ice Cream Sandwich update by last week's Best Buy screenshot should brace themselves for some bad news – it looks like the aforementioned devices won't be getting Ice Cream Sandwich just yet after all.

According to a letter being sent out to members of Motorola's Feedback Network, the soak test slated to begin tomorrow simply brings an update to build number 6.12.181 with various enhancement and bug fixes.

Looks like Rezound a RAZR/Maxx owners could be seeing Ice Cream Sandwich as early as next week, if this leaked document from Best Buy that just landed in our inbox is to be believed.

As you can clearly see, Wednesday, April 4th is slated to be the day that the RAZR twins see the Android 4.0 update; while the Rezound update should begin rolling out just two days later.

Now, we realize that it's pretty close to April Fool's Day, so before you scream out "Fake!", we've already reached out to our sources to verify the validity of the image, and it appears to be the real deal.

The LG Lucid, previously known as the Cayman, is available on Verizon Wireless starting today, March 29th. This decently spec'ed handset sports:

  • 4" IPS LCD reinforced by Corning glass
  • 5MP rear and VGA front-facing cameras with 1080p video capture support
  • 8GB internal storage with support for a MicroSD card up to 32GB in size (sold separately)
  • 1700mAh battery
  • Wi-Fi Direct
  • 802.11b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 3.0 + EDR
  • 4G LTE support (as will be the case with all future VZW phones)

  • Android 2.3, slated for Ice Cream Sandwich
  • A whole slew of VZW apps crapware

Looking at these specs, if I didn't know any better, I'd ballpark the price for this device somewhere around $150.

We've been hearing about an upcoming LG device for Verizon's LTE network called the Cayman for a few weeks now; that device is now officially official, and it's bearing the moniker Lucid.

At $80 with a two-year agreement, the Lucid will hit a sweet spot in many users' wallets; just because it's affordable, however, doesn't mean it's lacking in the feature department:

  • 4-inch display with Gorilla Glass
  • 1.2GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 5MP rear shooter
  • Front facing camera
  • Android 2.3, upgradable to Android 4.0

As you can see, it's packing specs comparable to top-of-the-line phones from just a couple of months ago, but at less than half the introductory price.

It's always nice to see a device update roll out. This time around, we're seeing the details of a new software update for the Droid Charge spring up on Verizon's support page. The update brings things to version FP1, and mainly consists of some bug fixes and minor improvements:

While there are no really exciting changes here (*cough* Android updates *cough*), it's tough to complain about software support in any form.

Droid X2 owners should be keeping an eye out for a new OTA set to roll out "soon," bringing the device's build up to 1.3.418.MB870. The OTA is pretty light, coming in at around 35MB, and bringing a small handful of enhancements and fixes to the X2, which debuted almost one year ago. Included in the update are Verizon's Video and VZ Navigator 3D City, Google's security patch, Wireless Alerting System compatibility, and a few other small improvements.

If you haven't already been touched by Verizon's stupid-fast 4G LTE network, then tomorrow may be the day. Big Red will flip the switch on seven new markets, including:

  • Dothan and Enterprise, AL
  • Naples, FL
  • Greenville, NC
  • Altus and Durant, OK
  • Longview/Marshall, TX

Also on its quest for world domination (at least on the cellular level), VZW will expand its LTE market in 17 existing markets:

  • Washington D.C.
  • Elkhart, IN
  • Baltimore, MD
  • Columbus, MS
  • Northern NJ
  • Wilmington, NC
  • Duncan, OK
  • Allentown/Bethlehem, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Scranton/Wilkes Barre, PA
  • Hilton Head, SC
  • Cleveland, TN
  • Dallas/Ft.

Verizon Wireless has just made public an official list of handsets on the network poised to receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OTA updates, most being devices for which such updates were a given at this point:

HTC:

  • HTC ThunderBolt™
  • DROID Incredible 2 by HTC
  • HTC Rhyme™
  • HTC Rezound™

Motorola:

  • Motorola XOOM
  • DROID BIONIC™
  • DROID RAZR™
  • DROID RAZR™ MAXX™
  • DROID 4
  • DROID XYBOARD 8.2
  • DROID XYBOARD 10.1

Samsung:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 10.1
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 7.7

LG:

  • Spectrum™ by LG

No timeframe was provided, but this is probably the most authoritative ICS update list you'll see out there, if for only one reason: in the end, it's Verizon that decides whether or not a device on its network gets updated.
